Here's some of the monsters I fought in Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold, that were hard to kill.

The Yggdrasil Core (Far Bottom) was near impossible to defeat.

That last one is just impressive. Not scary. Impressive.

Think of it like Chthulu. He's not scary looking but the fact that he drives you insane by being in his presence makes him scary.

Also the aformentioned soul draining boss attempted omniversal genocide.
