Project Purity (DrTrollinski & Greg2344)

"I lied to you to protect you, you didn't have to see that picture. I already admitted to being a raider before. I haven't even been a raider for 10 years anyway. So no, I wasn't the one who killed your family. I don't know why you would ever even think that? Has everything I've done for you guys so far, not prove anything..... Not mean anything?" Jax said

"The only reason I thought that was because of the picture, you know, the one you didn't tell me about?" He sighed and shook his head. ".. We're in a place where we can't hide things from each other, Jax... Look where it gets us - It makes me think that you were involved, which then leads to you thinking that I hate you. Which I don't, okay?" He explained, looking back to him. ".. Remember, Jax... The truth hurts, but a lies worse." He gave a half smile and looked down at the table. ".. I knew when I first met you that there was something on your mind. Something you struggled to let go of... I could see it in your eyes. I knew those sorts of eyes because I'd seen them in a mirror before... For the first seven years after all of it happened, I blamed myself... I had night terrors, I wet the bed a lot, woke up in my sleep screaming for them to leave them alone... And all of that time I hated myself, because I just... Let it happen." He said.

He shuffled his chair over to beside Jax and then sighed as he leaned against him, his head rested on his shoulder. ".. Back at our home town, I used to lie to my new dad a lot. I was scared of him finding out the truth, because I knew it would be trouble on both sides... I--.. I used to use Daniel to fight, Jax... I was scared of fighting myself, and--.. I put him against other kids that I knew he could beat." He sighed. ".. He never really had much of a problem with it, but it got me in trouble with my dad a lot. We won caps, yeah, but... I've always regretted doing that... And now look, he's lying in the other room, half-dead because of me." He looked down at the ground.

"I still have nightmares about the things I've seen.... The things I've...done. Daniel isn't half dead because of you. If anything he is half dead because of me.... I shouldn't have let him go onto that vent. He isn't even half dead anyway, he has a minor wound, he was stabbed in the thigh. I have been stabbed in the stomach on more then one occasion, and I'm fine. The picture..... Is the last thing I have to remember my "dad" by. He took care of me when he found me alone in the wastes. Yeah we were raiders but... I still miss him." Jax said.

"Then I recommend you do one thing... Cut everything else out of that picture. All the other raiders, the dead guy, everything that makes you regret what you did... Just have you and him... There's no need to remember everything you left behind." He smiled at him and rubbed his back after hugging him with one arm.

"And it ain't your fault for what happened... I'm the one who told him to go into that vent... Not you." He added.

With a sigh he looked around. "In a way I'm grateful for what happened. If it didn't all go down the way it has - I wouldn't be a doctor, I wouldn't have met you, and project purity would have zero progress." He chuckled a little and hugged him. "Remember, Jax... Me and Daniel have forgiven you for your past, and I think it's high time you did the same."

"You know what, I don't even need the picture anymore, I'm ready to move in from the past ." He said with a smile. He then ripped the picture in half and threw it in the ground. It hurt him deep inside to know, that he would never see his dad again. His eyes even started to tear up, but he knew it had to be done. "Even if I just cut out all the other parts in the picture except for me and my dad, I would still remember it all." He said. "Should we wake up Daniel, and get traveling. I need to get out of this damned hell hole." He added

Walker smiled at him. ".. Good..." He smiled again and hugged him. "I'm glad you're moving on... We all do it eventually." He said. ".. I'm gonna' use the bathroom. Go wake Daniel up and make sure he eats something, then we'll leave." He patted his shoulder and then stood up, walking out of the kitchen and into the bathroom.

After walker went in the bathroom Jax wanted to pick the picture back up... But he didn't. He finally felt ready to move on from his dark past. Jax then walked over to Daniel, gently calling his name to wake him up, then said "are you hungry, bud. I got some food."

Daniel groaned in pain and slowly rolled over onto his side and looked at him, his eyes already filled with tears. ".. Where am I? Is Walker okay? Are you hurt, too?" He asked, sniffling several times over.

"We are all ok, stop worrying. We need to get traveling again, so eat some food." He said while handing him a can of beans and a purified water. "Walker are you ready?" He yelled to the bathroom. Jax went into the next room and got all his gear together and loaded his rifle.

The toilet was heard flushing and then Walker quickly washed his hands - he pulled the washed suit of armor off of the radiator and looked at it. It was all dry, thankfully, he slipped it on and then stretched a little bit. His shoulder felt way better today, but he desperately wanted a shower. He quickly went back to the living room, hugged Daniel, and then quickly ate his own can of beans. He stuffed the water into his backpack, loaded up his rifle and Colt Python. He was good to go.

"Can you walk?" He asked Daniel, Daniel slowly rose up and instantly fell into his arms.

"No..." He said in a shaky whimper.

"Jax! You're gonna' have to carry Daniel!" He yelled.

"Walker, your gonna have to hold my rifle then." Jax said. Jax then handed his rifle to walker and picked up Daniel and held him in the cradle position. Then he walked out of the door and stepped outside into the wasteland again. Waiting for walker to come outside.

"Sure." He said as he took his rifle and slung it over his opposite shoulder; he walked out of the house and then went over to Jax with a smile, nodding at him as he looked off down the street, and then up at Daniel. ".. So... We're gonna' go to Canterbury Commons and stay there for a few days, right?" He asked.

"Yeah, we can rest there for a little while." The group traveled for a few hours and they were almost there. "Look, it's over there in the distance." Jax said. They arrived at the town safely only about 20 minutes later. When they walked into town Jax realized he has no caps! "I have no caps how can we even rent a room?" Jax said to walker.

".. Don't worry... Let's just get to reception and let me do the talking." He thought for a moment. ".. How much do rooms usually go for?" He asked, scratching the back of his head as they approached Canterbury Commons. The backpack and the guns were weighing him down a little, but he could put up with it. Daniel had fallen asleep in Jax's arms while they walked on.

"Usually like 20-30 caps, I'd say" replied Jax. Jax's arms were starting to hurt pretty badly, from carrying Daniel for a few hours. He was glad they were there now. Jax also said to walker " how's your arm been, is it fully healed."

"Bruised, but better after yesterday." He sighed. ".. Twenty or thirty caps. Don't worry, let me talk to them - Remember, we've got an upper hand here, okay?" He smiled as they got closer and closer, ever so gradually. ".. Just let me give it a shot, okay?" He said as he patted him on the shoulder.

"I don't know what your going to do, but whatever it is, do it." Said Jax, unsure what walker was talking about. They arrived at the town, and went to the front desk to "purchase" a room. The receptionist was an old women with short grey hair. She said "how can I help you today sir?"

"Uh, hi..." Walker said. He looked at Jax and Daniel and took a deep breath before looking back to her. ".. We have my little brother who's hurt. We were attacked, and... We need somewhere to stay for the next few days. I know that we don't look like anything special, but... We've been sent by the lead scientist at Rivet City; we're the ones that are the main roles for the completion of Project Purity. You know Project Purity, right?" He asked.

"Yeah I've heard of this "project purity" I see the papers for it everywhere." The old women replied. "Hmmm, I'll cut you a deal, ok? Your friend, the adult one, Will do some work for the town, and we will give you guys a room for a couple days. Deal?" Jax replied "yeah, deal, when do I start." "Today!" Exclaimed the old women.

(It's 'Woman', by the way :P 'Women' is used to define multiple.)

"Sounds fair..." Walker said with a sigh. ".. What sort of work do you need us to do?" He asked as he looked around the building. Seemed nice so far. It was certainly better than the old apartment they were in.

( I know, just my mobile woes,)

The old woman said "I need you to clear out the ghouls in the sewer below us. They have been making tons of noise, scaring our people! Some even say that they sneak up at night and steal children!" "Sounds like an easy task, I'll get it done tonight." Jax replied. "Ok sounds great! I'll get going, I'll be at the front desk if you need me!" The old woman replied.

After the woman left Jax said "ok guys, this is an easy task, you two can rest while I do it myself. Both of you are all banged up and tired, there is food in the fudge if you get hungry. I'll be back in an hour." Jax then laid Daniel onto the bed, in the room. "By the way, ghouls don't really steal children, ghouls are to stupid to even know how to steal." Jax said with a smile.

".. Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" Walker asked softly as he placed a hand on Daniel's head. He had a bit of a fever. ".. I think it'd be safer if I came along. Or would you rather me stay here with Daniel?" He asked.

" nah, this is easy work, you deserve some rest. Also you need to watch Daniel." Jax replied. He then went outside of the building, into the town center. He saw the sewer grate was half open, so he slid it off and opened it up. He climbed down the old shaky ladder. The sewer was dark, and smelled badly. Jax walked around searching for about ten minutes, until he found a small hole in the wall, the hole was about 4 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Jax crouched down and walked inside. After a minute of walking, it lead to a large room. Jax could stand up now, because the room was large.

In the center of the room, was a pile of decomposing humans, all dead. Jax was shocked and loudly said "what the hell." Then four men rushed at him, hit him over the head with a base ball bat, and knocked him out. When Jax woke up he was tied to a chair. Four ghouls stood In front of him. They weren't feral, they were like the ghouls at "The Underworld." Jax said "who are you?" they didn't respond. He realized they must be on their way to going feral.

After his nap, Walker found that Jax still wasn't back. He sighed and stood up, grabbing his guns and heading over to the door. He stepped out, making sure the door was double-locked before making his way downstairs. He asked around at reception for the entrance to the sewers, and he was pointed outside and just around the corner where he found the entrance to the sewers via manhole. He sighed and slowly made his way down the ladder, his Colt Python at the ready, just in case.

Walker's young eyes quickly adjusted to the dark. It was easier for him than others - he spent a lot of time in dark areas as a kid, mostly when he was hiding from adults when he was younger and taking stuff from the recreational center in his town. This was easy. He stuck close to the wall and felt around for anything of interest. He found a small hole after a few minutes, he felt around it for a while and then peered inside. He could crawl through it, easily, but he wanted to make sure there was nothing of danger. He smelt something rancid, like rotting meat, but right now, that didn't matter too much. He wanted to make sure there was no immediate danger.

There was, of course.

The ghouls took Jax's gun, but luckily didn't find his machete. The ghouls went Into a room next door and were talking. They were speaking English, but in some wretched way, Jax could not understand. While they were in the other room, Jax was shaking the chair back and forth untying his hands. He finally got the rope undone and stood up out of his chair. He knew he couldn't take on the four ghouls alone, even with his machete. They had baseball bats. He tried to open the door, but it was locked. He sat back in the chair, took out his machete and hid it behind his back, acting like he was still tied up.
