Sansa Stark
Queen in the North
Sarah is a girl from a prominent rich family, Christian, successful in school and loved by all who know her. When her best friend confides in her that he is gay, she goes with him to the Seattle Pride parade with an open mind, wanting to support his decisions and take notes on a community she was never allowed to get involved in. However, she meets Character B, a giggly, beautiful artist--who happens to be female--and Sarah is immediately intrigued. The two spend a great deal of time together and quickly become friends. Sarah was never interested in boys despite her father's push for her to get a boyfriend, but the more time she spends with Character B, the more she begins to wonder what her sexual orientation is. Will she admit what she is scared to discover?
"Are you coming, or what?"
A sigh escaped her lips. Sarah had been on the fence for the past two weeks, still unsure whether or not she intended to go to the Seattle Pride parade. The idea of leaving the safety of her apartment to venture out into a group that never accepted the likes of her was utterly terrifying, not to mention dangerous, and minutes before the event was scheduled to begin the poor girl had still been teetering on the decision. She brought her knees to her chest and looked somberly out her window towards the rainbow-streaked streets and people below. Even the sight sent her blood pumping with negative possibilities.
"I don't know, Manny. What if my picture is taken? What if my parents see it on Facebook? I can't risk that, I'd lose everything."
"Then wear a mask. There are tons of people wearing masks down here."
"No! That's weird." Sarah pinched the phone between her shoulder and her ear so she could pull back the blinds further, looking down at the mix of people crowding Seattle sidewalks, trying to find someone in a mask. "I just see lots of makeup. No masks."
"Then you'll have no problem fitting in! Ugh, babe! Just get down here. I promise that if your picture ends up on Facebook I'll tell your parents I held a gun to your head and dragged you down here to celebrate with me. You don't have to be gay to support gay pride!"
"That's the thing, Manny. I'm not sure if I do."
"Oh, stop it. You're letting your nerves talk. You'd better get down here before Mama Tits comes down the line with George Takei in a '57 rainbow-painted Chevy. That's a sight you'll wish you had seen."
She eyed the outfit she had laid out for the event, biting her lip, certain that her whole life could fall apart just for attending a parade. Her parents were the kind of people to withdraw all financial support based on affiliation with the wrong crowd, whether it innocent or intentional. Her entire career rode on the support of her family's wealth. But something deep in her heart drove her rise from the comfort of her bed despite the warnings in her subconscious, begin to get dressed, and tap her phone into speaker mode. "Okay, okay! Just...don't take any pictures of me. If you do, just like...say I was out for coffee and happened to run into Homosexual Central."
"Eeee~! Okay~! I'll see you here!" Manny hung up the phone, and in less than twenty minutes Sarah was prepared to leave the apartment. Packing her purse and leaving fear behind, she flew down the stairs with adrenaline coursing through her fragile veins.
