Clearly, humanity needs its ego checked.
As we have expanded across the stars, it has become clear that our lifestyle is . . . difficult to sustain. Our ancestral home of Earth is in a constant state of decay, and most of our earlier colonies aren't faring much better.
Given our obsession with the profits, we created things we still have no true understanding of, such as the Radiant AI system, or recombinant partial-humans. Many of these have been shunted to the side, in favor of budding experiments in psychic capabilities, much to their chagrin. However, it is ironically the most powerful psychic we have ever produced that has put up a struggle, declaring that there are to be no more violations of nature or human rights.
It . . . hasn't gone over well. Every attempt has been made to silence him, to declare him a psychotic terrorist, but his words have still gotten through.
A revolution is coming, and it doesn't seem as if we'll live to see the end of it.
