Daemon

Double Luck
It's the end of the world. Humans have finally done it, they have killed each other off. There are around 300 humans left. Nuclear wastelands dot the earth, and small battles still rage. But you are all alone. You have found ways of survival. You have taught yourself to hunt the skinny animals (that scrounge for food themselves) for the small amount of meat that they have left. Most of the stores are still unlocked. That way you can take whatever you need. you have taken refuge in whatever you choose. The world is yours. You may do as you wish without anybody telling you "no". But beware. There are dangers out there such as: radioactive wastelands, mercenaries who were sent to kill any person that crosses their path, and don't forget, any person you come across may be your friend... or foe

Raiko heard movement in a overgrown brush that towered cars. The weed swayed in the wind, making a horrid noise, screeching against the glass window. Raiko was surprised there was a car that wasn't completely destroyed, and by this he meant windows shattered. He slithered over to the shaking plant, and he rolled under the car. What ever that was in the bush would die today. He made a loud quick scream, and the hunt. Was on.

Daemon hears a scream about a couple blocks away. He draws his two knives and runs to the general area where he heard the scream come from. "Hello?" He sees the brush rustling and gets ready to strike. "Hello?!" He says a little louder. Takes a step closer to the brush.

Lecky sighed as walked the neighborhood looking for any moving pray to eat. Even after all these years though, she still couldn't believe a a high sophisticated person such as herself would be caught actually hunting for food. As she walked, she heard a sudden screech in the far distance.

Food.

She instantly thought. She Quickly made her way towards the sound. As soon as she got there, she behind a large rock. she saw a boy repeating "hello" , but clearly heading towards a bush.

Why is he doing that?

Raiko grabbed the unsuspecting boy's leg, and grabbed it, pulling him under the car, with a tire iron pointed at his face. It looked ridiculous, what could he do with a tire iron? He put a finger over the boys lips and there was a red laser beam pointing to the side of the car. They heard footsteps and they saw some heavy black boots walk past, stop near the car. Raiko held his breath and covered the boy's mouth. After a couple seconds the figure walked off, out of site.

Lecky's eyes had widened. She clearly saw the boy suddenly get taken under the car. She saw someone walk past the car, wearing heavy black boots but she didn't dare go near. She knew better not too. After the figure had passed, lecky wasn't sure weather to check if the boy was ok or not.

Imean what if whatever took him did the same thing. She thought.

She bit her lip, then sighed a tired sigh. Even she had conscious, and leaving the boy like that, was just not something she could do. She gulped, pulled out her lasso, that is attached to her cargo pants, and ran towards the car. She stopped at the side of the wrecked car, then stood there shaking.

"If - If you have the boy ....then give him up....or I'll hurt you" She realized a lasso wasn't all that scary but it was the best she had at the moment, her lighter was at home.

"come out this instant" You could really hear the fear in her voice, but she hopped it didn't stick out too much.

Daemon was cursing himself. His full attention was to the bush, when somebody grabbed his leg and pulled him under the car. Fear shown in his eyes as the boy pointed the heavy tire iron. But then the unexpected happened. The boy covered Daemon's mouth, which was a good thing because just then he heard footsteps... Heavy ones... And Daemon would have made a very audible whimpering sound. He couldn't see anything, but eventually the footsteps faded away. And then things got even weirder. A girl's voice called out telling one of them to let the other go. Was he being followed? Had he walked into a trap? The girl was obviously with the boy

All this went through his mind in a split second. Right before he came up with the idea of getting away from these people, whoever they were they wanted to hurt him, or die trying. So he managed to quickly grab one of his knives and press it against the other boys neck. The look in his eyes told the boy that he wasn't messing around.

Athena awoke with a gasp. She sat upright, panting hard. A small amount of light was coming in through the window bathing Athena in light. She sighed deeply as she realized she was awoken by another nightmare, the third one that night. She yawned and stretched. Her joints cracked noisily causing Athena to sigh again. She should probably try to find someplace with an actual bed tonight and not just a couple blankets that lay on concrete. Maybe find a house with food too? Her stomach growled loudly in agreement.

Athena frowned and rested her hand on her stomach. It was much smaller than was healthy, her ribs could be felt underneath the thin cotton of her shirt. 'Maybe I should go hunting again.' Thought made her stomach turn. She hated killing more than anything. She felt so bad for the small animals that died so she could eat.

She stood from her spot and crossed the room. She picked up her jacket from where it lay and put it on quickly before pulling on her boots. Athena checked to make sure the small knives she carried were still in her jacket and hidden in her boot. She nodded to herself as she felt the cool steel on her finger tips.

She tossed the backpack out the broken window. She then pulled herself through the window careful of the small pieces of glass that were scattered in the grass. Athena pulled the backpack over her shoulders and ran from the backyard to the front. 'Left or right?' She asked herself. Athena remembered seeing a small store a couple days ago that still looked full. She turned right, in direction of the small convenience store and took off in a sprint.

~

Within minutes she was hiding in the bushes across the street from the store. Athena cursed under her breath as she noticed two boys under a car and another girl standing beside it. Her instincts told her to help the boy that was pulled under but she ignored them. For all she knew the three were a team and used this act to lure others into a trap.

'No, I won't help them. But how do I get to the store without them noticing.' She looked down and picked up a large rock. 'If I throw it down the street hopefully they'll follow the sound and move.' Athena glanced up once again and gripped the rock tightly. She pulled her arm back and just as she was about to throw it she noticed something that made her stop. One of the boys under the car was holding a knife to the other. They wouldn't do that if they were a team, would they?

Athena was suddenly drowning in the memories she hid in the back of her mind so she wouldn't have to see them. The boys are going to kill each other. She leaped from behind the bushes and onto the street. " Stop! " She screamed.

Lecky heard a scream. "stop" it sounded like a female voice.

She turned to see the girl- almost in a frantic state. Was she referring to me? She wasn't sure what to think at all, she was still frightened from trying to get the boy from under the car. Wait. She hadn't dare check under the car yet. Maybe that is why the girl screamed. Maybe the boy was dead already. Not that she would care, death was part of regular life here.....but she took so much effort to save him in first place. She took another huge gulp. Just take a quick look, then if he's dead you run like hell from whoever else is under there.

She forced her legs to move, then then she bent down on one knee and looked underneath the car. Lecky was shocked. Completely and utterly shocked. The boy she was trying to save already was saving himself. A knife at another strange boys throat.

Nayomi walked around with a gray coat kinda big, but she didn't care. She walked in the shadows quietly looking around and till she stopped to see this girl and some other girl talking to a car. Nayomi looked closer under the car and thought for sure maybe it was raider so she layed down and aimed and shot right past Daemon's ear, but missing. She hated it when she missed. Nayomi started reloading waiting for what was ever under to come out.

"On three, we will lower our weapons. One. . . two . . . three . . ." As commanded Raiko dropped his weapon. " I saved this kid, and what I get for it was a knife to the throat? I don't know what custom this is, but in New York, someone usually says thanks. . " He glared over to the girl," Please, I am trying to stay on the low side , I don't want bullets in my head. . . Around here, there is a group called the Switch. They kill everyone on site, now I don't know about you. But i like living, so if you want to, shut the hell up and follow me." Without their consent, he lowered down, and started to walk around the giant bush, and into the alleyway behind it.

Raiko turned around and glared at the girl who tried to shoot them, he knew the child was nervous, he knew that they have never killed anyone before, and that's why she missed. He walked off with a wave.

Daemon gets out from under the car and looks at everyone with his knife still in his hand. He hates knowing that his life has been saved because now he owes that guy a favor. He still didn't trust anybody, though it's kinda hard to when everybody you meet tries to kill you. So without turning his back to the group, he follows the guy down alleyway.

Nayomi runs and follows them silently with her hood on. She simply ask " where are we going?" she said holding her head down wondering where they were going. She held her pistol in her hand and looked up to see what was in the distance.

"I said be quiet." With a simple motion he had a tire iron in her face, " No need to ask where we are going, just some where safe, and it's far, so I suggest you either leave now, to have a fun discussion, or you simply be quiet, and live." Raiko turned back around and started walking, going through the shadows, hearing strange noises, and also, two more humans in pure black attire.

Lecky frowned as she followed the group. Was she seriously just going to follow them? She knew nothing about any of them, for all she knew the three of them already knew each other and could just be leading her to a trap.

"I demand you tell us where we're going!" she asked, her voice a whisper, but it contained authority. She suddenly saw two more people with pure black attire - now she really to know. "Tell me"

"A place where you can be loud as you want, because you seem to like being loud!" Raiko quickly flashed a sneer into Lecky's eyes. He walked around a car on fire, and the abandoned Wall Street.

Daemon finally decided to let his guard down just a little bit. He kept his knives in his hands, but he turned around so that he could see where they were going. He hadn't said a word this whole time, but he wasn't going to change that either. He doesn't like meeting new people, He never did really. He was always the quiet one at school. Talking to people just made him uncomfortable.

So he kept his mouth shut as the quietly kept to the shadows, avoiding men in dark coats. It was actually quite fun for him. He hadn't done anything exciting for ages. So even this (as dangerous as it was) was good for him.

But he still didn't trust these people. He didn't even know where the guy was leading them. And he decided to himself that at the first sign of uncertainty he would make a run for it. And if he had to, he would fight his way out.

Lecky rolled her eyes. The insult didn't phase her. "When exactly are we reaching this wonderful place, that you're risking our lives on." She knew she was most probably annoying him with all the questions, but she didn't care. She wanted answers, and besides - she was getting a little kick out of his irritation. Sure that may have been mean, but it was funny to her.

"Ask one more DAMN question, and I am smashing this tire iron intro your skull!" Raiko picked up the pace and made no noise passing anything and everything.

Daemon smirks. All this was just petty fighting. It was being ignorant as it was getting them no where. If there was one thing he learned from being alone so long, it was patience

Lecky winced. She wasn't scared of him ...much, but if he did try to act on his threat she'd be sure to handle him accordingly. But still, Lecky found that it would best to just allow him to lead to where ever they were going. She tired of walking, and she just wanted to get there already.

" uh Daemon is that your name?" she tapped on the boy infront of her silently and asked quietly. Nayomi knew he looked familiar and kinda wanted to go to her abandon apartment where she left the picture of her family. " uh hey leader dude.." she looked and saw her apartment close by it was right infront of them. She pretty sure they were going down the dark alley and there was a door that led upstairs through there. " can I go to my apartment its right there in that dark alley.. its a picture of my parents." she said softly , stern, and kinda sad.

Raiko quickly stopped, he kept his family our of his mind, for ages now. He didn't think about them, or how they died. With a clam, quiet voice he spoke up a few seconds later forgetting that she asked the question in the first place. " s-sure. . . but make it quick. . ."
