That One Fear In My Enemy's Eyes
Hey all, and welcome to...
This interest check is for Pokémon fans who are interested in participating in an RP about Pokémon that's geared more towards adults than it is for children, and that means that several things about the world of Pokémon will change from the games/manga/anime. For your convenience I will list those changes and differences below:
1) This RP is NOT child-friendly.
The RP will feature a very real Predator-Prey relationship between Pokémon. Larger carnivorous creatures will kill and eat smaller (and sometimes larger) herbivorous creatures (and sometimes other carnivorous creatures) to survive. Sometimes they will hunt prey which will fight back to survive, and if they are strong enough they may kill the predatory Pokémon out of self defense.
Pokemon are the only creatures in this world, after all. There are no regular birds, squirrels, bugs, etc. It's 100% Pokémon, and they are not inherently friendly with each other. They are wild animals through and through which leads into the next numbered difference between the RP and the Pokémon you know, but more on that in a bit.
This RP will also feature gore and death for humans as well. Team Rocket is the primary antagonist of this RP, and they use firearms whenever their Pokémon are not enough to accomplish their objective. So if they find you and you pose a threat to them, they'll shoot you just to be safe which is part of what makes them so dangerous. They're not above murder to get their way, and that includes the murder of Pokémon which stand against them as well.
2) When you capture wild Pokémon, they will not magically become loyal to you as they did in the show or the games.
Pokémon are wild animals who have either never had contact with humans, or who have had very little contact and see them as threats. Pokémon, being wild animals with little contact with humans, have no reason to trust or respect you, let alone be loyal to you when you send them into combat. Most of them will attempt to escape at first opportunity forcing you to act quickly and recall them to their Poké Ball to make the point that they aren't going anywhere. Once they accept that fact, you can begin working on gaining their trust and respect with time.
This also means there will be absolutely ZERO capture-by-friendship moments in the RP. I HATE that element of the anime where Ash continually befriends half the Pokémon he "captures". It's stupid. In every way it's stupid and poorly thought out and meant solely to adhere to children and the whole "friendship conquers all" message they love putting into kid's shows.
Nonsense like that will NOT be happening in this RP.
3) The Pokémon Gym Challenge is only ONE option available to Pokémon Trainers after they acquire their Pokémon Trainer's License (which is a process I'll get to if there's enough interest in this RP idea).
Upon acquiring their Pokémon Trainer's License, a Trainer may choose to do anything they want to with their life just as you can in real life once you become an adult and join the workforce. The Pokémon Gym Challenge is just an option that becomes open to you, and is not by any means mandatory.
If you do decide to collect the eight Gym Badges of any given region, you will be eligible to partake in the Pokémon League Challenge which is an Olympic-style competition for Trainers from around the world to participate in. The winner becomes the Pokémon League Champion, known officially as the world's most powerful Trainer.
But outside of that, Trainers can do whatever they want within legal boundaries. They can become an employee of any Pokémon-based profession such as a Pokémon Law Enforcement Officer, Pokémon Fire Fighter, Pokémon Center Attendant (or Manager, Pokémon Healing Device Engineer, etc), Poké Mart worker (or manager), Pokémon Breeder, Pokémon Fashion Competitor, Pokémon Artist (an artist who devotes all their time to Pokémon artwork instead of "regular" artwork), Pokémon Educator (basically a teacher for kids about Pokémon in schools), etc, etc.
Trainers can also join any "regular" real world profession such as a lawyer, scholar, librarian, restauranteur (or server), store clerk, judge, police officer (without Pokémon assistance), fire fighter (without Pokémon assistance), teachers, recruiters, game designers, tv directors, etc, etc.
The world is your oyster.
PLOT OF THE RP
The plot of the RP is fairly simple:
We take on the role of Pokémon Trainers and do our best to survive and live our dreams in a world of Pokémon!!
STORY OF THE RP
The RP's intended story is a little more complicated given the fact that none of our characters have to be dedicated Pokémon Trainers who are taking the Gym Challenge. It's going to be harder to find a reason to keep them all in one group, so what I am planning on doing is breaking the RP into various IC posting threads depending on how many people show interest and who want to be similar types of Trainers.
For instance if there are 2-3 people who want to be Pokémon Law Enforcement, a Fire Fighter, and an Emergency Response Unit (or EMT), then I will create a thread for them since they operate in similar professions. These 2-3 people can post together privately as an isolated group on their own adventure separate from everyone else.
If there are 2-3 people who want to take the Gym Challenge, I will make a thread for them and they can post together.
If there are 2-3 people who want to be Pokémon Contest (the silly fashion/technique based competition for "cool", "beauty", etc, etc), I will make a thread for them and they can post together.
Make sense?
Essentially this is going to be multiple RP's in one depending on who wants to be what kind of Trainer and whether or not they work well in groups with other types of players. The more varied out desired Trainer types, the more IC threads I'll create to accommodate everyone's needs and give them the opportunity to join up with other like-minded RPer's who want similar Trainer types.
Please keep in mind that, as I mentioned above, the RP is not canon to the games/anime/manga. The different Trainer types from the games like Pokémon Rangers, Gamblers, Ace Trainers, etc, do not exist. If you're a Pokémon Trainer, you're a Pokémon Trainer. Plain and simple. No labels.
Thank you!!
However, regardless of how many IC threads there are, I have a central story in mind which unites all of our characters... And it is as follows:
Legendary Pokémon are so powerful that not even a Master Ball can capture them. To give you an idea of just how powerful they are, a single Legendary (Zapdos, for example) could level an entire city in less than 10 minutes if it wanted to.
Team Rocket has discovered, through intense research and experimentation, a method of weakening the Legendary Pokemon making it possible to capture them in Master Balls. But even with this method they will go through a few Master Balls to make it happen for each Legendary because they're still strong enough to resist.
Our characters will spend a good amount of time just enjoying life as Pokémon Trainers before the time to unite against Team Rocket comes calling. I will determine when that time is.
Until then the RP is all about life as a Trainer with occasional run ins with Team Rocket to keep things fresh and to keep you on your toes. Remember they're not above murder when things aren't going their way, so if you encounter them you have to be exceedingly careful about how you go about fighting them. If it looks like they can't beat you, they'll shoot you and your Pokémon to save themselves the embarrassment of failure.
That's about it for now!!
If there's any interest in this RP Idea, then I'll gladly get to work putting it together.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to voice them here and I will answer all of them.
Thanks for your time, and I hope to see some interest soon!!
