Fandom Pokémon (For Adults) Interest Check!

ChoShadow

That One Fear In My Enemy's Eyes
Hey all, and welcome to...

pokmon_sw_by_kumoriryuu-dboqxgc.jpg

This interest check is for Pokémon fans who are interested in participating in an RP about Pokémon that's geared more towards adults than it is for children, and that means that several things about the world of Pokémon will change from the games/manga/anime. For your convenience I will list those changes and differences below:

1) This RP is NOT child-friendly.

The RP will feature a very real Predator-Prey relationship between Pokémon. Larger carnivorous creatures will kill and eat smaller (and sometimes larger) herbivorous creatures (and sometimes other carnivorous creatures) to survive. Sometimes they will hunt prey which will fight back to survive, and if they are strong enough they may kill the predatory Pokémon out of self defense.

Pokemon are the only creatures in this world, after all. There are no regular birds, squirrels, bugs, etc. It's 100% Pokémon, and they are not inherently friendly with each other. They are wild animals through and through which leads into the next numbered difference between the RP and the Pokémon you know, but more on that in a bit.

This RP will also feature gore and death for humans as well. Team Rocket is the primary antagonist of this RP, and they use firearms whenever their Pokémon are not enough to accomplish their objective. So if they find you and you pose a threat to them, they'll shoot you just to be safe which is part of what makes them so dangerous. They're not above murder to get their way, and that includes the murder of Pokémon which stand against them as well.

2) When you capture wild Pokémon, they will not magically become loyal to you as they did in the show or the games.

Pokémon are wild animals who have either never had contact with humans, or who have had very little contact and see them as threats. Pokémon, being wild animals with little contact with humans, have no reason to trust or respect you, let alone be loyal to you when you send them into combat. Most of them will attempt to escape at first opportunity forcing you to act quickly and recall them to their Poké Ball to make the point that they aren't going anywhere. Once they accept that fact, you can begin working on gaining their trust and respect with time.

This also means there will be absolutely ZERO capture-by-friendship moments in the RP. I HATE that element of the anime where Ash continually befriends half the Pokémon he "captures". It's stupid. In every way it's stupid and poorly thought out and meant solely to adhere to children and the whole "friendship conquers all" message they love putting into kid's shows.

Nonsense like that will NOT be happening in this RP.

3) The Pokémon Gym Challenge is only ONE option available to Pokémon Trainers after they acquire their Pokémon Trainer's License (which is a process I'll get to if there's enough interest in this RP idea).

Upon acquiring their Pokémon Trainer's License, a Trainer may choose to do anything they want to with their life just as you can in real life once you become an adult and join the workforce. The Pokémon Gym Challenge is just an
option that becomes open to you, and is not by any means mandatory.

If you do decide to collect the eight Gym Badges of any given region, you will be eligible to partake in the Pokémon League Challenge which is an Olympic-style competition for Trainers from around the world to participate in. The winner becomes the Pokémon League Champion, known officially as the world's most powerful Trainer.

But outside of that, Trainers can do whatever they want within legal boundaries. They can become an employee of any Pokémon-based profession such as a Pokémon Law Enforcement Officer, Pokémon Fire Fighter, Pokémon Center Attendant (or Manager, Pokémon Healing Device Engineer, etc), Poké Mart worker (or manager), Pokémon Breeder, Pokémon Fashion Competitor, Pokémon Artist (an artist who devotes all their time to Pokémon artwork instead of "regular" artwork), Pokémon Educator (basically a teacher for kids about Pokémon in schools), etc, etc.

Trainers can also join any "regular" real world profession such as a lawyer, scholar, librarian, restauranteur (or server), store clerk, judge, police officer (without Pokémon assistance), fire fighter (without Pokémon assistance), teachers, recruiters, game designers, tv directors, etc, etc.

The world is your oyster.

PLOT OF THE RP

The plot of the RP is fairly simple:

We take on the role of Pokémon Trainers and do our best to survive and live our dreams in a world of Pokémon!!

STORY OF THE RP

The RP's intended story is a little more complicated given the fact that none of our characters have to be dedicated Pokémon Trainers who are taking the Gym Challenge. It's going to be harder to find a reason to keep them all in one group, so what I am planning on doing is breaking the RP into various IC posting threads depending on how many people show interest and who want to be similar types of Trainers.

For instance if there are 2-3 people who want to be Pokémon Law Enforcement, a Fire Fighter, and an Emergency Response Unit (or EMT), then I will create a thread for them since they operate in similar professions. These 2-3 people can post together privately as an isolated group on their own adventure separate from everyone else.

If there are 2-3 people who want to take the Gym Challenge, I will make a thread for them and they can post together.

If there are 2-3 people who want to be Pokémon Contest (the silly fashion/technique based competition for "cool", "beauty", etc, etc), I will make a thread for them and they can post together.

Make sense?

Essentially this is going to be multiple RP's in one depending on who wants to be what kind of Trainer and whether or not they work well in groups with other types of players. The more varied out desired Trainer types, the more IC threads I'll create to accommodate everyone's needs and give them the opportunity to join up with other like-minded RPer's who want similar Trainer types.

Please keep in mind that, as I mentioned above, the RP is not canon to the games/anime/manga. The different Trainer types from the games like Pokémon Rangers, Gamblers, Ace Trainers, etc, do not exist. If you're a Pokémon Trainer, you're a Pokémon Trainer. Plain and simple. No labels.

Thank you!!

However, regardless of how many IC threads there are, I have a central story in mind which unites all of our characters... And it is as follows:

Legendary Pokémon are so powerful that not even a Master Ball can capture them. To give you an idea of just how powerful they are, a single Legendary (Zapdos, for example) could level an entire city in less than 10 minutes if it wanted to.

Team Rocket has discovered, through intense research and experimentation, a method of weakening the Legendary Pokemon making it possible to capture them in Master Balls. But even with this method they will go through a few Master Balls to make it happen for each Legendary because they're still strong enough to resist.

Our characters will spend a good amount of time just enjoying life as Pokémon Trainers before the time to unite against Team Rocket comes calling. I will determine when that time is.

Until then the RP is all about life as a Trainer with occasional run ins with Team Rocket to keep things fresh and to keep you on your toes. Remember they're not above murder when things aren't going their way, so if you encounter them you have to be exceedingly careful about how you go about fighting them. If it looks like they can't beat you, they'll shoot you and your Pokémon to save themselves the embarrassment of failure.

That's about it for now!!

If there's any interest in this RP Idea, then I'll gladly get to work putting it together.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to voice them here and I will answer all of them.

Thanks for your time, and I hope to see some interest soon!!

Probably not as big a pokemon Fan as I should be for this but I think I'd like giving it a try.

All of this sounds great, but it seems like something that is implied in the games, but isn't outright stated because the games are targeted mainly at children.

While I would definitely be up for this type of RP, I think you could incorporate all of these aspects into a regular Pokemon RP, as long as the players are ok with it.

GrieveWriter GrieveWriter - You don't need to be a huge fan to enjoy this RP so long as you know the basic mechanics of how Pokemon works.

CallmeMyth CallmeMyth - True. Some of the game Pokedex entries suggest natural behavior as well as several manga interpretations also being quite violent and including character and Pokemon death.

The main proprietor of the child-friendly stuff I'm talking about is from the anime which is one of the most successful and popular anime among younger audiences currently on the air across the globe. It's in, what, it's 17th or 18th season? And it's still going strong with 17 or 18 movies to match with millions upon millions of viewers.

That's the main reason I feel obligated to list all of the more anti-child-friendly elements in my Pokemon RP's. Every time I didn't list those elements in the past, I'd get 10-15 people asking "Can I befriend *insert Pokemon name here*?" or "Can I form a bond with *insert Pokemon name here* but have them stay wild and follow me on my journey from a distance?"

I don't like that kind of thing, especially when the Pokemon in question is a pseudo-Legendary or some other kind of ultra-rare Pokemon.

Does that all make sense?

What's going to happen to those pokemon with human-level intelligence, such as the majority of psychic types?

Ticci Toby Rogers Ticci Toby Rogers - Glad to hear it.

OverconfidentMagi OverconfidentMagi - That's a touchy subject due to how strange psychic powers are in general. In previous RP's I nerfed them to have below human level intellect to keep things more simple. The more human their intellect, the more impossible we make it that they can believably be caught. Make sense?

So I'm open to suggestions about that, but if there aren't any compromises which I find acceptable then I'll do what I did previously and nerf them to make them simpler to catch.

I have a character whose partner is a Zoroark that goes around pretending to be a human. I doubt I'd try to use them in this rp, but that's what made me ask the question.

The only problem I have with Zoroark is that if it's truly that great at illusions, how is it possible to capture it? Zoroark is an overrated Pokemon in my honest opinion, and I believe its illusion abilities are taken too far in the original Pokemon mythos (both games and anime).

Abilities like those would be severely nerfed for this RP to make them more realistic and easier to feasibly capture, such as putting a significant limit to how long those illusions last and how much energy it takes to maintain them.

Im in. Can we start with a pokemon? If so im going with machop (hopefully i dont have to trade him to get machamp.)

Game mechanics are done away with, so all Pokemon who have evolutions can attain them naturally save for Stone evolutions. But for those, you just have to have the stone and touch it to the Pokemon's body (most commonly their forehead) and they'll evolve. But trade evolutions, happiness evolutions, holding item evolutions, etc. None of those are a thing here.

And yes, you can start with a non "starter" Pokemon of your choosing. The process will be that you contact Professor Oak or whatever Professor is in charge of the region you want to play in and ask them for a specific Pokemon. The Professor will put an order in to the nearest Pokemon Breeders who breed that particular species, and when the Breeder has a specimen who's at least 1 year of age of that species they'll send it to the Professor to give to you.

Make sense?

This way the Pokemon you start with is still young and has plenty of room to grow, but it can be whatever Pokemon you want so long as it's not a Pseudo-Legendary, Legendary, or some other kind of ultra-rare or hard-to-capture (let alone breed) Pokemon.

Hmmmm... I'll be honest, I'm kinda intimidated, hehe. It looks all nice and gritty and normally I'm totally okay with that, but recently... I dunno.
The real question(s) is, what's the character going to be like? You said any profession, which is great (I'm thinking researcher/breeder) but how many Pokémon do we start with, what's the max level, how many moves can they use, do we already have our licenses, or do we have to get them? What's the plaaaan, Staaaan?

I explain most of what you asked in the information above, but to recap...

There are no game-based mechanics such as levels, EV/IV's, stats, HP bars, PP, EXP, etc. That's all GONE.

These Pokémon are real animals, and real animals don't have mechanical game limitations. They're flexible. They're adaptable. They're alive. Your Pokémon will grow and mature based on how you raise it, not how you fight with and manipulate mechanics in a video game. It can remember every move you've ever taught it, and the only limitation on how many moves it can use in combat is its own stamina and its will to win.

It's all up to you.

As mentioned the world is your oyster in this RP. YOU make the plan. YOU design your experience. And YOU are in charge of your own adventure from the moment you type your first words in the In-Character Posting threads.

You can choose any region to start in and I will create an IC posting thread for said region so players who really like that region can all post in it together. I've already made one for Kanto since that's where I'll be starting (I'm a bit older and played the original RBY games first so Kanto has a special place in my heart), but again you can pick whatever region you want and I will make an IC posting thread for it.

As GM, I will contact you in the OOC thread from time to time to make sure everything is going okay for you and address any questions or concerns which arise. But in general once we start I will stay out of your way so you can enjoy your adventure the way you want to.

That is... Until I decide it's time to kick the unified story into gear which will slowly push our characters together at a specific location and force them all to eventually join up to take down Team Rocket later in the RP.

Okay.

I have created a general OOC thread for everyone to go talk things out which can be found here: Pokémon: Shattered World OOC Thread

I have also created a "Characters" page which can be found here: Pokémon: Shattered World Characters

Everyone whom I've tagged has permission to post to that page, but for the sake of making sure we're all on the same wavelength please refrain from posting a character until after I've posted mine which should be up later today.

And lastly I have created the first IC Posting thread for Kanto, which can be found here if anyone wants to start in the Kanto region: Pokémon: Shattered World (Kanto IC Posting)

Don't post in ANY IC threads until I've said we're all good to go in the OOC though okay?

Thanks guys, and I look forward to seeing what kinds of adventures we all get to go on!

See you inside!

Excellent the only psudo legendary i would be interested in is going to be Lucario. And thats iffy. Id likely want to start in Kanto since i love the first gen.
:)

As for profession my character will make a living as a self defense instructor and martial artist :)

I guess I didn't comprehend that in the recap, sorry about making you rewrite all that >_<
