RP
Welcome to []! A Pokemon RP that aims to introduce this lovable collection of creatures into the world of fantasy. You'll be playing the role of a new trainer whose about to set off on an adventure to explore the Nise region, along with you will be a group of other trainers that have been given the same opportunity. I've also made a good number of changes to the typical Pokemon formula to better fit the setting.

Pokemon
So you've got your first Pokemon and you feel you're just about ready to go on an adventure and form a tight bond with your new friend? Well, you better stop right there because you're not dealing with your typical Kanto mons today. The Pokemon of the Nise region are defined by two things, their unique personalities that can be equated to that of humans and their violent nature when around humans. First, the personality thing, each and every Pokemon is slightly different in its own way, much like with humans, Pokemon have a myriad of behaviors and quirks that make up who they are and what they do. Second is the violence, Pokemon have reigned as the greatest creatures on Nise for a very long time, in the last hundred years, however, humans have slowly been encroaching on the domains of Pokemon creating a sense of territorial fear and anger towards humans. This has led to many Pokemon showing extreme violence in the presence of humans, this was until recently when a few kingdoms employed a select few brave people to become "trainers" and find a way to tame Pokemon to help in their protection of human lands. They were very successful and found that there seemed to be a strange bond that already existed between Pokemon and humans, this allowed for the practice of training Pokemon to become more widespread. Just keep in mind that training Pokemon is still not an easy thing to do, one must spend a lot of time earning the trust of a Pokemon and must be able to see past the violent start training often has. Also one last note on Pokemon and befriending them, there are no pokeballs meaning that are few if any ways to conveniently capture/store Pokemon.

Training/Growth
Growing and training in Nise is an extremely hard thing, it is a process of not only growing in strength and prowess but also in training the bond between trainer and Pokemon. In this growth the typical Pokemon things happen, stats increase, Pokemon learn new moves, and a majority of Pokemon evolve at a certain point in their training. This process will also grow your characters' own talents as their bond with the Pokemon grows closer and simply through learning some of the Pokemon's habit, for example an untrained warrior stuck with an abra may find themselves slowly learning how to analyze a situation and fight more strategically.

Battling
Let's say you've gotten past the hardships of training and have even gone through a whole arc with your Pokemon, now with the bonding done it's finally time to enter a Pokemon battle. Pokemon battling takes on a slightly different form in Nise, here trainers are expected to fight their opponents alongside their Pokemon as to send only your Pokemon into battle is typically considered cowardly. Also note that while most battles that end in defeat will allow you to safely leave some may end in your or your Pokemon's death. Items are another staple of Pokemon battles, a few items will be unavailable in accordance with the technology of Nise, while others will be hard to find because they are often the result of rare techniques or magical processes.

Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and the Champion
Now that you've gotten your bearings on battling now it should be time to go after the eight gym leaders, the elite four, and finally the champion, right? Well... sort of... let me explain. The title of "Gym Leader" does not exist in the Nise region, instead there are a number of "Master Trainers" that are generally regarded as the best of the best among the common pool of trainers. You may have noticed that I said "generally regarded," the title of "Master Trainer" is one given based on popularity and battle prowess, and has nothing to do with the elite four, champion, or any other regulated system. These Master Trainers are instead regarded as good challenges for up and coming trainers looking to test their mettle, and often are a good place for trainers to seek apprenticeships so that they can grow their own power. The elite four also have a few changes to them, they are regulated titles given out only by the four largest kingdoms to their strongest trainers. These trainers have a bit more to do with the champion as a new champion is occasionally chosen from their ranks and they compete to become champion in an annual tournament. Outside of this tournament, however, there is no need to ever battle the elite four, though it is most definitely possible and there are pretty good rewards for doing so (you'll see what I mean in a bit). Finally the champion, this figure is often considered the strongest trainer in Nise and the title may only be taken in the annual tournament in which a trainer is often forced to face a number of Master Trainers and members of the elite four before ever facing the champion. If one is able to make it through the tournament and beats the champion they will take the title.

Pokemon Gimmicks
Any Pokemon fan knows that the last few generations have each had their own gimmick, gen six had mega evolution, gen seven had z-moves, and gen eight has dynamax and gigantamax. For the sake of simplicity, (and because these were gimmicks I actually really liked), the only ones of these I'll include are mega evolution and battle bonds. So I'm gonna quickly say how each of these work in Nise, mega evolution still requires a bracelet (or other similar device) that holds the trainer's stone, an appropriate mega evolution stone for the Pokemon, and a great bond between the trainer and their Pokemon. Mega evolution requirements are possible rewards that may be given by a member of the elite four or may be gotten in a few other scenarios. In addition to the mega evolutions in regular Pokemon I'll also be allowing the mega evolutions from Pokemon Insurgence (here's a list if you want to check them out). Battle bond requires that a trainer have a much stronger bond than even that of mega evolution allowing one to (for lack of a better description) unite their souls into one to boost a Pokemon's power to a level beyond mega evolution at a cost of shared damage. Unlocking a battle bond with a Pokemon by yourself is incredibly hard, so trainers have often gone to the elite four and champion to receive private training in the bond between Pokemon and trainers.

Fantasy
Finally, it's time to talk a little bit about the fantasy aspects of this RP. First up is magic, magic has existed for a long time and has been the only thing keeping the humans of Nise safe from the Pokemon of the world. This magic was once derived from the worship of Arceus and mainly consisted of basic warding and healing magic, with the discovery of the bond between Pokemons and humans mages have been able to discover new offensive and utilitarian forms of magic. So those interested in the arcane often spend some time as trainers in order to find a Pokemon that helps them grow their magical capabilities. Due to a need for mages to train Pokemon to develop their powers the study of magic is rather rare and a great affinity for magic is even rarer. Next are the typical fantasy monsters, orcs and goblins and the like. These will exist as remnants of bonding experiments carried out my Giratina in an attempt to exploit the full potential of Pokemon and human bonding. These monsters were dumped into the world after they failed and now fill the ancient ruins that were once dedicated to the gods. These monsters, though normally isolated, may occasionally mess with nearby settlements and offer a good chance to train.

Rules
1. Follow RPN rules.
2. Please discuss the outcome of a battle with your opponent (if it is a PC) before deciding on a defeat or death.
3. IC drama is allowed but please try to be respectful in OOC.
4. Romance is allowed, just keep it PG 13.
5. There are no specific post lengths, just keep away from one-liners and provide enough for others to work with.
6. Post frequency also isn't set in stone, just respond in a time that seems reasonable (at least once a week should be good if you need something more specific).
7. You may have up to two trainers.
8. Fakemon are also available as long as it is run by me and I approve it.

Other
That should be the basic gist of the whole thing, if you're interested tell me here and add what Pokemon you're thinking about starting with (the first stage of a three stage evolution). If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll respond the best I can. If there are any requests or suggestions you may have feel free to run to tell me about them and I'll see if I'll use it.

this sounds super cool! I’m interested! I’m thinking about maybe looking at some fakemon, but I do so love chimchar or torchic

That's great! Fakemon are so varied and diverse that's always interesting to see what people can find or make. Also, chimchar and torchic could be a little hard to find out in the wild so taking them early and finding some fakemon as your adventure continues might be a good choice if you're a split between options.

I think I’ve settled on going with chimchar for a starter Pokemon. If it’s okay, I’ll start working up a character

this sounds interesting! i'm always down for pokemon, though i've never really dealt with fakemon before

Fakemon aren't really that different from any other Pokemon and they're really easy to find. If you're interested in having one just search up fakemon and look for something that interests you. Some will have complete pokedex entries, learn sets, and abilities, but there is a lot of art without these things, in these cases I can help with creating the learn set and providing a proper ability. If fakemon aren't exactly your thing then it's completely fine to just use regular Pokemon.

So the trainer can't be 10 years old? Kind of was hoping to use a certain character I have.

Go ahead and use the character, the age limit was something I forgot to change before posting the CS, sorry about that. I'll be changing it to 17 or below, with obvious limits like choosing something in the age range of 1-5.

Feel free to get started and remember to ask any questions if you have them!

i'm dumb. i thought that atypical pokemon meant fakemon for some reason, but i understand now. thanks!

i'm tempted to use bulbasaur, shinx, or ralts.

All of those Pokemon are great so it’s definitely a hard choice, maybe think about who your trainer is gonna be and then choose a Pokemon that would be interesting to have. Remember that a trainer partially relies on their Pokemon to grow stronger and learn more skills. For example, you may choose bulbasaur because of its access to poisons which could allow your character to eventually create anti-venoms or their own toxins to be used in battle. This could in turn lead to developing alchemical skills.

Literally hadn’t thought of that at all

oh! that's actually really cool, i might have to rethink things a bit and consider all of the possibilities, hm.

For the battle thing do we get to choose if our trainer or pokemon dies after a battle or is this something we have no control over?

How unique can we make our Pokémon’s appearance? Do we have to stay with their original color palate? Or can we add a little flair?

You and the other character must decide on the outcome before or during the battle. If you can’t agree the both will live or I’ll choose who wins. Otherwise if you battle an NPC I will not kill a Pokemon or trainer without permission.

Small variations in color are okay, such as a slightly lighter or darker shade. Little flairs should also be okay but I’d like if you could give an example just to be sure. Just don’t go with something like complete palate swaps.

Also I have to go offline to get some sleep so I unfortunately won’t be able to answer questions for a while, I’ll get back to you on the flairs thing as my last answer for now.

So adding like a light green tint to the top of chimchar since he grew up in a jungle instead of the mountains would be okay?

Note one, your profile picture is my worst nightmare, thank you.

Note two, I'd love to join this! It's a great twist on the Pokemon world we all know and love, lol. If we can choose Pokes from any generation, I'd definitely let my character shoot for a Froakie.

This looks awesome! I'll double check to see if I can join up (with life getting in the way of course lmao) but I'd definitely be interested in this!

As for Pokémon/characters, I have a few ideas, so they kind of range between Psychic/Rock/Steel. Obviously not all three at once, but for two different characters!

So it seems you know of the ancient terrors that haunt the dreams of every windows user, Arceus save your soul. Also almost every Pokemon is available for use so a great mom like froakie is definitely allowed.

This seems like a really interesting twist on pokemon. I'd be down to join ^~^
Welcome to my little experiment! Thanks for joining, do you have any Pokemon you are considering starting with?

This sounds like a really cool idea, and I'd love to join.

Haven't decided what pokemon to start with though.
There are many Pokemon to choose from so the choice is never easy. I would suggest just look at mons that you find interesting or doing as I’ve said before, choosing a Pokemon based off how you want your trainer to grow.

It’s always great to hear that someone is interested and I really do hope you’ll be able to join. Are the types you mentioned the types you’re planning to specialize in or the types of Pokemon that you’re considering starting with?

I usually mix types up, but I think for characterisation and general themes around characters they would be ones I would specialise in!
