  • PokéCenter
    Seafolk Village [Poni Island], Alola

    August, 11
    th
    | 8:15 a.m.

An entire Village built on the sea!
    “Amazing…”

From the Pokémon Center’s lobby, the medical facility’s large, glass-pane offered anyone within a largely unobstructed view of Seafolk village in its entirety. It was all at once both nothing much and startling in its intricacy. Wooden planks, slightly uneven, layered together into a shabbily built pier. The pier didn’t seem anchored to the sea floor but rather floated on logs tied to the underside. Even buildings like the PokéCenter appeared to use this free-float style, but where logs wouldn’t suffice, large boats or rafts provided buoyancy.

It was her first time in Alola and Esther was decidedly impressed. The parallels between Seafolk Village and Aqua Resort were as marvelous as their differences; Oblivia was also an archipelago region with a strong sea-faring tradition, but they’d never taken sea-faring quite so…far. Boats as the primary means of transport, sure. Boat houses? Now that was innovative!

Esther would’ve loved to spend a few days ‘on the water’, but she had much to accomplish, and Seafolk Village was just a lay-over en route to Exeggutor Island. In fact, she was fairly sure the island in the distance was Exeggutor island, where today’s contest would be held. It was 8:15 and while the Contest wouldn’t begin until 9, Esther was eager to get a move-on.

    ”Miss Sophys?”

    “Here!”
Pulling herself away from the windows, Esther jogged over to the Nurse’s counter.

”One ticket to Exeggutor Island, the next boat leaves in 5 minutes.”

Esther grinned and thanked the Nurse before leaving. It wasn’t difficult to find her ferry, Seafolk Village was small, and her ride was the only ‘Wishiwashi shaped’ vessel docked. With the Contest so close, Seafolk Village ran frequent ferries to carry Coordinators and Spectators to the island. Supposedly, a ship left the village every 10 minutes.

Gingerly stepping off the pier and onto the ferry, Esther found a seat. A few passengers were already on-board and a few more would trickle in until the ship departed. Esther made herself comfortable, her gaze wandering from passenger to passenger
I wonder…are any of these people Coordinators?

Heizou Synopolis
Trainer 101!
Heizou was currently retying his loose burgundy-and-white hair that had managed to slip out of the band's grasp. The ferry tilted to one side a little and he gripped the side, where he was sitting, as another passenger stepped in. He wondered how many other people would be going to the so-called "Lake Contest", and who'd be the coordinators. So long they were refreshingly nice, he didn't mind, but then again- he didn't spend that long socializing.

Heizou figured most contestants would want to go early, just like how he was doing, and he finally finished the task of taming his smooth hair. His gaze averted back to the passenger who had by now sat down. Of course he was going to establish her looks; Honey-Almond skin, black hair with red wispy tips, and bright orange eyes. She certainly didn't seem old, and looked very much like a trainer.

He wasn't very good with small talk, but he supposed entering a tournament would slightly push him past his wants. Besides, he should learn to everyone around here- even if they weren't going to participate. At least, that's was what his mother told him...before he decided to leave. It was a bad choice, but adventures were a key thing in his life. He could see his family any day, but that only happened when he finished the goal for the week he always had.

This week was to win the tournament, or at least come in with a medal.

G

August 11th, Friday. Heahea City, Alola.

"Hi! Oh sorry, I'm not, huh? I was just saying, oh! Hi! Sorry I'm not-" G's cheeks were red with either heat or frustration. Unfortunately, thanks to the contest the week before, her fans had managed to pin down where G was participating and figured she would be going straight for the next contest in Alola. The streamer had been too busy with training and haning out with Altair, that she completely ignored her fanbase planning to pop in for a surprise.

The small group of people around her, mostly boys, where trying their best to look kind and patient while asking for selfies and autographs from G. Sadly, there were enough to make the coordinator feel a bit uncomfortable. Since she lived most her life in Snowpoint city, it wasn't common for fans to be around her in real life. But now that she was moving, they were willing to go to a tropical vacation paradise region to see her. G sighed loudly and raised her hands, which might have been a magical power because the group went silent and paid attention to her.

"I'm sorry, I can't do selfies right now or autographs. I really need to catch my ferry to my contest. I would really appreciate it if you all could give me space and let me focus on this. After, we can talk selfies and autographs, deal?" G placed her hands behind her back and smiled.

That seemed to have gotten a good reaction though. The group clapped and cheered while G waved and ran off to the boat getting ready to leave. She snapped a text message to Altair, just to make sure he hadn't bailed and was already on. G wasn't wearing her contest outfit yet, she had gone for something more... Alolan. The one thing that kept her cool also was the Snom with the exp share on, latched to her shoulder. The white larva Pokemon had grown since they arrived. To the point it sometimes took G out of balance.

The gamer girl stepped into the ferry and looked around before taking the seat closest to her. She sent a text to Altair to let him know she was already in and seated. G put the chilly Snom on her lap and leaned back. The glasses and hat hadn't worked to hide from the crowd, so now she was just stuck wearing them. "Sunscreen!" She sat up and began digging through her bag.

"This place is always burning. There's always humidity in the air, it's salty and smells like fish." She sighed loudly while taking out the tube with the lotion. "I hope the next circuit is somewhere more cool like, Galar or Unova."

SAGA KNOX
"Hey! Look, look Combee! We've made it!" The voice of a pink-haired trainer sounded energetic as ever as she rushed into the pokémon centre, "You too Klefki! Come on, hurry up!" Making a dive to a nearby couch, Saga almost fell over at the last few moments her feet were running on the ground. Combee and Klefki floated by behind her, clearly sheepish yet used from her excitement.

Rolling around on the couch before falling off, Saga looked around the centre with wonder and excitement. "Owowowow," she groaned in discomfort as her two pokémon hovered over her head, obviously concerned about her. However, any signs of discomfort dissappeared on Saga's face as she leaped up in the air. "Oh, I forgot about the contest. Say say, does any one of you two want to go back?" Saga fletched out the two empty pokéballs that belonged to the two flying pokemon. Compared to Combee, Klefki was the more obident, happily tapping the small button on the ball and retreating into the space. Looking at Combee with a cheeky expression, Saga leaped forward to catch Combee with her arms but only to land chest-first onto the ground again while Combee buzzed up, avoiding her grasp. The bee pokemon buzzed around her annoyingly like telling her that it didn't want to get close to that thing. Without much thought, the two played dog-and-cat together, mostly while outside before slumping down on a chair, clearly tired from their running around.

ALTAIR
Prasiola

August 11th, Heahea City
Interactions: G ( Hecotoro Hecotoro )
#ff50e7

"...I know I know, there's not need to watch me like a Braviary, are you my probation officer?" Altair stepped through the crowd on the ferry as he spotted G, who could be seen from a mile (we're in Alola) away, due to the fact that she gets crammed by her fans so often. His Rotom phone floated near him, clearing showing some signs of distress due to being bluntly put on slience after the barrage of notifications from the girl.

"And you know I don't like to show my face around your weird parasocial fans." He crossed his arms and said enthusiastically, before slumping down on the seat. Arceus forbid he gets on the bad side of G's fans, he was already getting a few comments with some choice vocabulary due to that gym battle performance he had.

"Hmm, you're from Snowpoint after all, so I guess it is pretty hot for you." Altair looked at the girl as she complained about the heat, despite having an ice type Pokemon sitting on her. "Alola is a dream tourist destination for a lot of Unovans and Galarians though, it's quite famous." He added as he looked down at another region travel brochure, just like how he did when he first arrived at Sinnoh, but the trainer's expression was visibly muted, melancholic even, as he flipped through the pamphlet, staring for an abnormally long time at a section of the pamphlet introducing the Aether Foundation. Altair furrowed his brow for a moment, but was quickly interrupted by the announcement that the ship was setting off.

Altair stood up and peered overboard into the blue Alolan seas, before pulling out two Pokeballs. Beneath the waves emerged Dhelmise, who seemed much happier to be in the warm tropical waters it should be native to compared to Sinnoh's chilling shores, as well as Gholdengo, who zigzagged on the ocean surface on their golden surfboard. "Alright you two, get back here!" Altair shouted while recalling the two. "If you want to eat Wailords, do it further from shore, there's too many people here." He nodded at one of the Pokeballs and muttered while seating back down.

"...Are you sure you want me to do this?" Altair put away the Pokeballs before half-heartedly asking G, who insisted him to come and join the contest with her. "I mean, it's not like I've gotten sponsors before all these years...maybe if that draco meteor didn't miss." He shrugged, referring to the disaster of a gym battle he had in Sinnoh. "Soooo...should I just use draco meteor on my opponent then? Would that get me sponsored...I heard a lot of coordinators aren't the same as trainers though, would that be too harsh...I don't really know how to 'look good' or whatever it is you guys do." He continued to mutter half-heartedly.

Esther was no stranger to stares. She was dressed in goth, so it happened; but it usually wasn’t like this. She certainly wasn’t having the worst time with strangers, that award went to the pale girl getting mobbed for selfies and autographs. A famous coordinator, perhaps? Esther couldn’t recall seeing her in any of the Contests she’d watched.

Either way, the Oblivian returned her attention to the ginger-haired man across from her. No…his hair was a bit dark to be called ginger. A shade or three darker than even her own red tips—it was a deep red, nearly brown. If he was going to stare then he should pay the price, he’d be her conversation partner till the ship reached Exeggutor Island.
“Hey there, stranger. You people-watch often? Have a gander over there—”
Esther gestured towards a girl running in circles, chasing her Combee for several seconds before slumping over.
“think she’s lost or…? I’m Esther, by the way.”

He flustered ever so slightly, the rose tinting his cheeks just a bit. Heizou knew he got himself into this, but something inside him felt slightly glad he was communicating with those around him. He glanced to his side to see the person Esther was pointing words at. In his opinion, it seemed downright childish. He himself wouldn't be chasing Alcremie- one of the Pokémon he keeps out mot days, but not now due to wanting to take Pokémon he'd need need- like that. Heizou knew she'd always swerve out of his grasp. Sometimes Pokémon seemed to not understand they shouldn't be pulling on their trainer's hair.

Heizou turned his neck to return his look to Esther. It was a nice name-but at this point, he's pretty sure he's just swooning over her in his mind. Gross, not to be rude, but he'd better stop if he knew what was best for him.

"I don't really...I didn't mean to...uh, well, I'm Heizou. Heizou...Synopolis."

He squeaked, clenching the strap of his light yellow bag a bit. He stopped himself from saying much more, taking a few breaths to calm himself down. It was the daily routine of talking to strangers-if he ever did. Some would say he had some anxiety disorder, but all Heizou could do was shake his head. He was a lively child before, now more introverted, so he wasn't born with a disease. Neither did it look like he had one now.

"Why're you going to this year's tournament? Special reason?"

“Don’t sweat it; no harm, no foul.”
Esther waved off a stammering explanation. She wouldn’t fuss over a few innocuous admirers.

    “Heizhou..? That doesn’t sound Alolan…?”
Err, she wouldn’t really know. She wasn’t exactly an expert on Alolan names. Still with its islands named to the kind of Melemele, Ula’ula, Akala and Poni, she was fairly certain they followed a naming convention that ‘Heizhou’ didn’t fit into.
“I take it you’re from out of region too then.”

“Special reason? Nah, not really. I was in Kalos before but…I’m not a fan of Pokémon Showcases; they’re nice and all, but they don’t offer much in terms of battle. I could’ve joined the Galar or Paldea circuits but…those don’t start until next month or so. Why wait? Plus, I’ve got a few Pokémon whose species are Alola natives, so I figured…might as well, you know? Oh! I also wanted to catch an Alolan Sandshrew to round out my team.”

“So that’s me, now how about you—what brings you to Alola?”

As most of the competitors on the ferry were either talking amongst themselves or to the media, a girl hid in the back. She had mouse brown hair which is allowed to flow down to her shoulders in terms of length, a peachy-skin tone (with a bit of a natural tan having formed by her travels). She has light blue eyes and wears thick black glasses over her face. Her face has freckles, particularly by her nose area, and her cheeks are rosy. A black hoodie had been pulled around her face, and her eyes darted around at the others.

'Man oh man, this was a terrible idea. I know I'll never be as good as mom was as a contestant...' The girl thinks to herself. After all, both the competition, and her mother, appear to be naturals with the film crew. Meanwhile she was struggling just on the ride itself. Due to the stress and worries, her right arm, which was holding a Teddiursa, subconsciously gives the little bear pokemon a squeeze when she tenses up. Her left hand was holding an egg incubator, which had a ghostly green color and a ring of red near the bottom. The Teddiursa, being annoyed by the squeeze, squirms out of the girl's arms and begins to run off and try to interact with some of the others.

Almost instantly, Anju squeaks and stumbles in the direction of the little bear.
"H-Heracles, s-stop that! And come back!" She yips as the brown bear begins to waddle around the ferry, quickly getting lost in the crowd. Just great. Well, at least she knew which pokemon not to use in the battle round (if she even gets through the appeals). This just left Juno and Neptune, since she'd already decided to use Vesta in Appeals and Ceres was experienced enough whereas the other mons could use some experience in training.

But she'll decide on who to use later, as right now her goal is to scramble after that teddy bear, following the sound of his paws clicking on the wooden surface of the ferry.

He stared at her, hearing the mispronunciation but doesn't bother fixing it. Of course Heizou wasn't an Alolan name, but then again, he didn't really understand why his parents had named him that. Maybe someone of his ancestors had the crazy name and they wanted to remember it.

"...yeah-yeah! I'm not from Alola actually. I simply just came here for a slight adventure just like most. My parents weren't so happy that I locked myself in some mental asylum-not literally-but more like my own room. I have a friend that actually does performances, one reason why I have to go back and forth through regions all the time. But I have found myself taking a liking to going more outside, and even psychic & dark pokemon! That's why...er, well I have mainly those types. But I didn't bring my comfort mon here, due to the contest. I'm pretty sure who I want in the next few battles up coming, but I'm still nervous."

By far, he'd taken most liking to areas around Kalos and Kanto region, but he still finds himself gravitating outside their own barriers too. Heizou was also often used to having his pokemon always out with him-at least the small ones. But now, he realized that could just bring him down in the tournament if he showed off what he had. he figured he gotten the common species, but looking around...not many had any similar to his! And ever since this girl Esther approached him...everything didn't seem so bad.

SAGA KNOX
It didn't take long for Saga to recover from the long run. Putting Klefki's and Combee's pokeball into her pokeball purse, Saga jumped off the chair before embracing Combee into a bear hug. "Got you!" she cheered, lifting the pokemon as high as her hands could reach. Combee struggled to get out of her grasp before giving up on his escape and embracing the gesture.

Saga let go of Combee once she realised that the ferry was already docked near the pokemon centre. "Combee, let's go! We wouldn't want to miss the tournament, after all! Lets get the tickets." She gestured to the to the boat outside before running into the centre, leaving Combee to fly not too far behind her.

A few moments later, Saga rushed up onto the boat with Combee flying near her shoulder. "Alright, lets go!" Saga gestured to some of the seats before she felt a soft, fuzzy thing hit her leg. Combee was the first to notice, nudging Saga to look down. "It's so cute!" Saga gasped before couching down to meet it on eye level, "What's your name? Do you have a trainer?"

Laurie Wright
Did+you+see+that+one+about+the+three+sisters+who+_b2213d9d0535f1df318b13c08478a365.png

If they were being honest, Laurie was still disappointed that their parents had chosen to go to Alola for their summer vacation instead of visiting their cousins in Kalos like usual. Alola was undoubtedly beautiful, but it was so hot. Especially in comparison to Galar. Most of their vacation so far had been spent taking refuge in the water at Poni Beach. That was, until, their father came across a flyer for the Pokémon Contest.

“You should enter this!” He had pointed excitedly every time they’d walked past a flyer. Initially, Laurie only responded with a shake of their head, but Dad was persistent. Did they spend all their spare time watching Pokémon Contests? Yes. Had they done extensive research on the world’s top coordinators for fun? Also yes. But had they ever actually been in a Contest? No. Contests weren’t very mainstream back home, and even when they did come around, Laurie was lacking in the self-confidence department and never dared enter.

It hadn’t been until the night before that they changed their mind. Something had come over them as they watched the sun dip below the horizon.

“You know what?” they thought aloud to their Pokémon, as they paced back and forth across the accommodation’s balcony. “It will be different than practising alone, but if it goes horribly wrong it’s not like I’d ever see these people again, right? Right…?” Drizzile locked eyes with their trainer and gave a single, but clear, nod of encouragement. They both dreamed of strategizing that night.

Now on the ferry to Exeggutor Island, Laurie was having second thoughts. But it was too late to go back now. Next to Drizzile, they sat in the shadiest spot they could find. The sweat on their forehead and back was uncomfortable to say the least, and at this point they weren’t sure if it was from the climate or anxiety. Their purple t-shirt, featuring a graphic of Toxtricity, felt like it was sticking to their skin. Staring pensively at the floor, they wondered if it would be appropriate to get Snom out to offer some relief. They could feel their heart pounding in their chest. Everything felt very loud.

It wasn’t until Drizzile got up and started walking somewhere that they were able to snap out of their panic somewhat. What was he doing and why did it have to be now? The lizard-like Pokémon was approaching a trainer with pink hair. All Laurie could do was watch, bewildered.

Drizzile had been watching the Teddiursa as they toddled about, assuming they belonged to the somewhat frantic looking trainer with glasses who looked like she was missing something. It amused him. He reached out and tapped the pink-haired trainer on the arm, then pointed a green mitten towards the one he believed to be Teddiursa’s trainer.

"Of course I want you to do this!" G exclaimed as she stood up and faced her friend. "Look, maybe looking at battles differently will help you out. You don't just try and beat your opponent here. You need to battle while putting on a show and that show has to be more impressive than your opponent's."

G took off her hat and placed it on Altair. "Also, YOU need to look fabuleuse! It means fabulouse in French." She smiled playfully. "So, what are you planning on wearing? Because there's no shops at the island. Don't tell me you're going with normal clothes? Did you prepare a routine? You saw me practicing my routine so you thought of one, right?" G placed her hands on her hips. "Just because you're new to this, I don't want you not trying."

Her blue eyes shifted a bit to a couple of people running after their Pokemon and two reddish haired individuals flirting or something. She turned back to Altair. "Sun block? You need some? Water?" She sat back down next to him. "Selfie!" She smiled at her Rotom that popped out and shot a picture of them. "For the personal vault. Look, Mister Al-ta-ir, just try it out. If you don't like it, you don't have to participate in future ones. You still have to go see my shows though. Okay?"

"Ursa!" The Teddiursa exclaims upon being noticed by Saga. The baby bear pokemon then proceeded to rub its little face up against the young woman's face, doing its best to be cute and put on its own little 'performance' for the woman. As it was enjoying the attention and cooing of the woman, the bear's head snapped upwards, and it began to drool a little, smelling the honey scent off of the trainer's combee. After all, everyone should be aware that bears love delicious honey.

As the little bear is asked for its name, and trainer, it snaps out of its honey-hunger for the moment, instead paying attention to the girl. It nods its head, answering the trainer question first. And then he flexes a bit to answer his name question. After all, he is Hercules, the strongest of all in myths.

It would be about that time when the girl whom the nearby Drizzile was pointing to, came upon the scene, panting as she stopped right in front of Saga. After catching her breath, she puts down the pokemon egg incubator and uses both hands to scoop up the Teddiursa. "Hercules! I told you to stop running away from me like that, you naughty teddy." She lightly scolds him, before looking at Saga and bowing to her in apology, causing Hercules's little head to bow down too.

"I-I'm s-so sorry m-miss. H-Hercules c-can be s-so rambunctious s-sometimes. I h-hope he d-didn't c-cause any t-trouble..." She says in apology. "M-My name is A-Anju... A-Anju Yamamoto... Th-Thank you f-for holding Hercules un-until I found him a-again..."

Esther was no shut-in, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t relate. Oblivia was a small, isolated region and many of her interaction with the outside world had been through the internet. It was nice, but now that she’d obtained the opportunity to explore in-person, there was just no comparison.

“If you’re nervous then there’s only one things to do—Battle!”
Esther found the fifth Pokéball on her waist, holding her left arm aloft while her right hand released her Pokémon.
    “Say hello, L’ Basseau!”
With a soft click, a cheery Surskit perched herself on Esther’s arm.

“We’ve got a few minutes before the ship departs, so why don’t we have some fun? We’d need to battle over the water, so a Pokémon who can swim or fly would be best—something like Susu.”
It was a bit mean to challenge Heizou with a bug-type after he’d professed to mostly having Dark & Psychic types, but Susu didn’t know any bug-type moves—not offensive ones, anyway. Still…
“I have to warn you, Susu is one of my best!”

For her part, Surksit puffed with pride and waved a thin leg towards Heizou. She was sending a message that needed no interpretation—Bring it on!

Heizou shuddered when the girl pulled out her Pokémon. He hadn't realized he was going to battle so soon, especially with one that handled bug types so well by the looks of it. But if Surskit was one of her best, he worried what Esther's best-best Pokémon was. (No offense, mwahaha-) Though, if he was supposed to be up for a quick match, who else could he choose to battle above water? He couldn't even make a choice, but then again, he didn't mind using Noivern.

"If this is what most people in Alola do, I'm afraid I'd have to hop out the second this tournament ends." Heizou joked mainly to himself. Like he said before-he didn't hate battles, so he had nothing against this, but on such an early occurrence? Frightening.

A short amount of rummaging in his side bag brought him to being able to hold a red-and white Poké Ball within his palm. "I suppose I should take you out too, bud." Heizou angled it away from him using his left hand so a beam of sparkling scarlet light flickered. A roar accompanied it as the black 'bat-ished' behaviored Pokémon made an entrance.

Now the real question was-would this end quickly, and who'd be ending it?

    Uh oh,
A newbie Heizou was not. Esther had assumed he was a fresh-er trainer, but this Pokémon looked anything but fresh-faced. The Oblivian held up her Pokétch and scanned—
”Noivern, The Sound Wave Pokémon. Flying & Dragon Type. Aggressive and cruel, this Pokémon flies around on moonless nights and mercilessly torments careless prey. In the dark, nothing can best them—even Hydreigon are terrified of this Pokémon.”

    “Wowza!”
Now that was a description. Esther turned to Heizou with a playfully accusing pout.
“Dark and Psychic types, huh? Good thing its bright out.”

This would be a difficult battle.

Huh? Switch Pokémon? Don’t be ridiculous! She’d said Susu and Susu it would be!

“It’s always the quiet ones you gotta watch out for… Alright Susu, let’s have some fun!”
With a flourish, Esther threw her Pokémon overboard where the water-skater Pokémon did just that and alighted weightlessly on the waves.
“Start off strong—fill the air with Bubblebeam!”

Naturally, the first thing to do was deny her opponent as much room to maneuver as possible! Surskit’s antennae twitched, and a font of bubbles shot into the skies. When the Bubbles began to fall they did so slowly and erratically, dancing on the Alolan breeze. It was a good thing they were so close to shore, the winds the carried waves to cash across the beaches would serve Esther well.

Heizou watched Noivern take flight off the ferry and into the sky, almost immediately hearing a move coming from Esther. A basic move-quick to force out to cover up perhaps the surprise? If anything, it was noticeable, so...good try. But the change of speed was drastic. A slow torture for a slow win-humorous to him in some ways. But even so, he could see Noivern straining to squirm past the upcoming attack that was just falling. Even if Heizou did say anything right now, Noivern would still be hit somewhere from his comparable size. So he let it be. He knows, he knows, but he also knows what he's doing.

"Alright Noivern, I hope some measly bubbles doesn't effect(?)affect you because clearly Esther enjoys using wind to the advantage. Giving her pokemon a little push might just put her in her right mind. Let's use Acrobatics, a good hug would do the trick."

Heizou's voice seemed to soften at the end, though a small smile appeared. Noivern only gave any hint of having heard anything by a subtle movement, before it started to swerve with a new aura rounding up it's figure. Now if his pokemon just made contact...well, it all mattered how Esther wanted it. Offense, Defense, there sure were more categories.

Tch, Dragon did resist water after all.
Esther wasn’t surprised Noivern could shrug off Bubblebeam, at the end of the battle—ever little chip counted, right? Regardless, the Oblivian didn’t think her Surskit could do the same. A single acrobatics could end the battle; couldn’t have that, now could she?

    “Dive with Quick Attack!”

Surksit plunged beneath with waves just as Noivern swept by. It was a close call. For all its size, Noivern was quick and nimble. Nevertheless… Esther wet her lips. She could see it, their path to victory. It was a gamble but…it was probably their only chance.

Susu emerged from the water several feet away from Noivern and Esther was quick to give new orders.

“Use String Shot on the water!”
Susu paused and then followed through, spooling oodles of sticky webbing into the ocean where it…sat. Step one in her plans…complete?

Heizou frowned slightly at Esther's new attempt to change things up a bit. The stringy material was setting on the water, obviously not sinking, meaning it could still get caught onto Noivern. That was a problem. Only his eyes were moving across the Pokémon themselves.

"Noivern quickly swerve back up-that liquid is something you'd rather not touch."

But his call would end up being late anyway. By far, when it was gliding down to be Surskit, Noivern had already became too fast with Acrobatics and would've originally skidded against the water's surface. Something about this seemed to have caught his opponent's eye, but even if his own Pokémon made a move to destroy it, would Noivern be caught in it's own trap?

"If you can't chase the enemy, you can't chase your goal. Let's use dragon claw for our defense."

As much as I have spent time with Noivern, Esther seems pretty compatible to her own companion too...hmp. Interesting.

    This is it!
    All-or-nothing!
“Loop around and pick up the string with Aqua Jet!”
Esther plan was deceptively simple. Noivern flew and it probably wouldn’t be able to do that too well if it was covered in string shot and soaking wet. Surskit erupted into a jet of water and dove into the ocean before emerging beneath the bundle of thread.

The water coating Surskit would prevent it from being caught in its own web but once it collided with Noivern then the web would be able to gum up Noivern’s wings! Of course, whether Surskit would be able to withstand a collision between itself and Noivern was another question, fingers crossed! If Surskit could successfully hinder Noivern then their chance to win had arrived—“Gum it up then knock it into the water with…Hydro Pump!”

If Esther's plan succeeded then Noivern would go plummeting into the ocean. Wrapped in string shot and water-logged, the night-flier would be all but done for. Of course, if the collision knocked out Surskit or String Shot couldn’t hold Noivern in place for Hydro Pump then it would be all too easy for Noivern to K.O. Surskit before it could land.

Back against the wall, Esther was betting it all!

A slight quirk of his lip got him reeling. This girl had outsmarted a person who spent most time thinking about things too much. He supposed that was an ace weakness. He knew something was up, but thousands of ideas had came into his head and he chose a great but also disadvantaged move. Everything was already falling into place, so he relaxed himself a bit more. Heizou didn't even realize he had tensed up-especially in a freebie battle like this.

The strings had already eloped with Noivern's body, and the poor pokemon was already failing with it's flight. A little more pressure made it look like the bat would topple over. Thankfully it's spirit wasn't broken and still managed to hit Surskit slightly as expected by the both of them. But hydro pump already finished off the night watcher. Having a draw would be a surprise, but Heizou didn't hope for it. A loss meant getting stronger for the next win.

By now, Noivern got shot down into the water, one wing able to manage to hold up before actually drooping. He slid his poke ball back out and returned it back once it was settled. The bat already had the dizzying effect, and having a pokemon left at sea didn't necessarily bring Heizou at ease. But overall, it felt like...a good battle.

SAGA KNOX
Gasping in joy when the Teddiursa began to rub it's face against hers, Saga excitedly gave the bear a big hug, almost knocking the bear from it's stance. "SO CUTE~" she squealed as Combee flew above them, judging Saga's action. Feeling the bear's hungry gaze upon it, Combee tilt it's body slightly before buzzing a few centimeters away from the two, it's soft buzzing could be faintl heard from above.

Feeling a tap on her arm, Saga turned her head to meet the eyes of a Drizzile. "Oh, who might you be?" Saga asked before she let go of the Teddiursa. Plopping her legs down to kneel on the ground, Saga watched the Drizzile as it pointed to a trainer with an egg incubator who'd looked like she ran around for some time. "Who's what? Is that the Teddiursa's trainer?" Saga looked at her curiously before she came over and scooped up the teddy with both her hands.

"Ah. so you must be the Teddiursa's trainer!" Saga exclaimed before standing up and excitedly offered a handshake, "My name is Saga! Saga Knox. Are you in the competition too? I'm soooo excited to be battling with you from now on! Oh, your name is Anju, right! Nice to meet you!" The pink haired trainer's rambles wasn't a new habit, amplifying when she caught Combee years back.

Before Saga could get too far into her rambles, she noticed another trainer resting in the shadows, looking at the Drizzile who was next to them. Grinning, she waved at them, inviting them to come closer. "Hey hey, you there! Come'ere, Come'ere, let's chat!"

    Success…?
Her plan had gone off but with a small hitch, Noivern had grazed Surskit with Dragon Claw as they collided and... Esther narrowed her eyes.
    Yep, spirals.

Just a graze but Susu was laid out. At least she’d managed to get off Hydro Pump so Noivern had been sent plummeting into the ocean. They probably hadn’t done much damage to Noivern, but it would probably struggle to stay afloat with its wings all icked up by String Shot.

Esther returned Susu to her Pokéball and gave it a little peck,
    “Great Job!”
    Then she turned to Heizou.
“We can call it a draw but…I’d say it was your win. Noivern might’ve been able to get back into the air but Susu was definitely done. How was it? Still feeling nervous?”

"I know what French is...I was in Kalos for almost a whole year...not sure if I know anything about style though." Altair glanced at G and her exaggeration of the Kalosian language, reminiscing about not even being let into the high end clothing boutiques in Lumiose City.

"I thought they were judging your Pokemon, no? I bought some of those stickers at the airport...the packaging came with this ribbon, what if I put it on my shirt? I think I have a clip on tie too, maybe that works." He fumbled through his bag before pulling out a few sheets of ball seals in a plastic packaging with a ribbon wrapped around it. The seals were all of the letter "B". "I got this on sale too." Altair mentioned, with a bit of glee. "There were other stuff too, but I just took the first one I saw." He added before unwrapping the box and pondering at the cheaply made decorative ribbon that was on the box.

"Routine? You mean like a battle plan?" When G asked about his contest routine Altair paused for a moment, oh right, there was another part of it before the battles. He forgot about that part. "Umm...yeah?" He muttered while tapping each of his Pokeballs and desperately thinking up of what each of his Pokemon could do. None of those ideas constituted a routine. "I was...planning to think of one while on the plane but I fell asleep, so I was planning to think of one on this boat but since I have to talk to you right now, maybe I'll think of one while waiting for the other contestants..." Altair said calmly, but rather than serenity it sounded more like his entire soul has been drained out of his body.

His thoughts were interrupted by a splashing sound as he glanced off the boat. It seems like some people were having a Pokemon battle. It was quite noisy, but at least they seem to be doing it with water and flying types so it doesn't disturb the boat too much. "What the..." He muttered to himself before leaning back with a sigh. "Good thing I recalled Mobi and Asa, wouldn't want to intervene accidentally." Altair said half-heartedly, as his Dhelmise and Gholdengo loved to play in the water (despite neither being water type).
