Don't mean to waste anyone's time here, but I've got a question. What does Semi-Lit mean? I KNOW, it means Semi-Literal. Then you're telling yourself, but you just answered your own question, BlackLynx! No, what I mean is, what's the definition of Semi-Lit? Is it 3+ sentences? Good grammar and punctuation? Or 1+ paragraphs? I want to know, because most RPs I've checked out say Semi-Lit, and that means at least a paragraph. I've never done paragraphs until recently, so I'm fairly bad at them. (I do think I am good at grammar and punctuation though). I just want to know if I "belong" here, because most people seem more advanced than me. Help! (And sorry for rambling, but I would appreciate a response :D )

What does Semi-Lit mean?

Short Answer: There isn't a real meaning. It is 110% dependent on the individual perception of each person who uses the term, so you should go by whatever else is written or just ask the person directly.

I've never done paragraphs until recently, so I'm fairly bad at them.

You shouldn't force yourself, there definitely are people for all kinds of RP here on RPN. I would recommend you keep searching, and if necessary make an interest check of your own outlining your own preferences.

Semi lit is an arbitrary marker . . . depending on who you talk to semi lit is:

One sentence.
Two sentences.
Three sentences.
A paragraph.
A badly written paragraph.
Three sentences but badly written.
Any number of sentences but not a paragraph that has poor grammar!

So honestly don't use them and just assume they don't want to write multiple paragraph posts.

To add on to Ideas point I would ask for and send writing samples. I have found actually looking at samples of past role plays is a much better example of whether someone is gonna be a good partner.

Because word counts and paragraph definitions can mean different things to different people. Technically a two sentence line of dialogue could be a paragraph so it doesn’t necessarily prove anything to say “I want a paragraph”.

There were a few threads discussing this matter, for example:

And all of them agree that those terms are very subjective and can mean different things to different people. The only common thing between those types is "they are more than one-liners". XD

It would be best to ask the person directly what they mean, or exchange roleplay samples to make sure you're all on the same page.
