Play By Google Talk?

I just got connected, though unfortunately until Google releases a linux client, I have no voice capability.

It got me wondering -- could this be used for <strike>evil</strike> playing Exalted? I'm pretty sure it does multi-user "conference call" type stuff. Couple it with a chat channel for dice and private messages, and it could probably make online games smoother and a lot less impersonal.

Thoughts?

I thought it was still in an open Beta state... Regardless I think your right. It really opens up the options for people who can't seem to get a group together in person. I know a few of us on the boards here are from other countries with even smaller bases of players. Overall I think this has great potential.

I just got to thinking about this. It would be really cool get a few of us together on the thing and play a game. Forn Clakes usually comes up with some really good ideas for campaign. WE really wouldn't have to worry about rules   !  I think it would be cool!

I don't think there is a chat conference ability build in... yet.

That's not to say there won't be one build into the future. Might I suggest IRC or even MuD. You would need a online die-roller, like white wolf's die roller or a die roller like the Old EC had.

Online gaming is fun... but it depends on the players as well.

I did some research. There is no built in conference ability, but it can be jury-rigged to work. Google for "google talk conference call".

Sounds cool, just honestly don't think i could be the ST, i'm only moderately capable at best, but hell, i'd love to take part.

I firend of mine told me that not only is Skype free for computer-to-computer calls, but it does support conferencing. Team Speak is another possibility.

I just started using Skype. It works great. If any of you want to hit me up, I'm "blackornithopter".

Hmmm... I just went to Skype website, looks pretty cool. I haven't gotten it yet, I need to make sure my cell phone earpiece can plug into the comp, but if it does, I'll be on it!   :D

I've been burning through the 120 free minutes I got when I put money on my account with paypal. The quality is remarkably good.  I've only noticed slight distortions when both people talk simultaneously.

It does conference calls, AND has built in instant messaging, so I think it would work really well for online gaming. Except for Jakk, who's on crappy 56k dialup.

PC-to-PC calls are completely free. Calls to a standard phone number have a per-minute charge. Even then, it's relatively sheap. You can find the rates on their site, but keep in mind it defaults to Euros.
