Crocus has an appearance based off the flower with the same name, as seen with the petals around his head. He has a rather stocky and muscular body, is bald on the top of his head, but with white hair with yellow flower petal-like things, that have purple near the bottom of them, and a white beard that splits in two parts. His lower lip is noticeably larger than his upper. He wears a pink shirt with a yellow and green stripe with purple circles in the yellow along with blueish-grey shorts with sandals. He also wears glasses, a seaweed necklace, three gold bracelets, and a green-gem bracelet on his left wrist. He also has a scar on his left arm.

Crocus is a doctor and the whale Laboon's caretaker as well as the overseer of the Twin Capes Lighthouse that guides ships coming down from Reverse Mountain into the Grand Line. Though he was a lighthouse keeper for most of his life, he spent three years as a doctor serving as a part of Gol D. Roger's crew.

Crocus is a wise and caring man. He has a strange habit of taking his time when it comes to answering questions. He once took a direct hit from a cannon attack in order to protect Laboon, showing that he deeply cares about the whale.

B A C K S T O R Y


Fifty years before the current storyline, Crocus met the Rumbar Pirates as they entered the Grand Line through Reverse Mountain from the West Blue. As he welcomed them, he noticed that a whale, Laboon, had followed them into the Grand Line. Seeing also that their ship was banged up from their journey, Crocus agreed to allow them to stay in the Twin Capes Lighthouse while repairs were made to their ship. As their ship was being repaired, Crocus got to know the pirates personally, especially their captain, Yorki, and musician, Brook. After three months of repairs and partying while they were being done, the Rumbar Pirates' ship was ready to set sail again. Since the Laboon was too young at the time, they feared that the young whale would not be able to face the dangers of the Grand Line and so they entrusted Laboon to Crocus. Crocus agreed to watch over Laboon until the pirates came back from sailing around the world and came back down Reverse Mountain again. However despite the Rumbar Pirates' promise to come back after two to three years, Crocus did not meet them again at the promised time and waited much longer. Twenty-six years before the start of the story, Crocus met another group of pirates that came into the Grand Line through Reverse Mountain. These were the Roger Pirates and they hailed from the East Blue. Learning that their captain, Gol D. Roger, was suffering from a terminal disease, Crocus was asked by the pirates to join them as their doctor in order to help stabilize Roger's health, as he was believed to be the only doctor with the ability to do so. Wanting to find out what had happened to the Rumbar Pirates, Crocus accepted their offer and joined them along with their voyage. After sailing around the world with Roger, Crocus left the crew as it disbanded. Upon returning to the cape twenty-three years before the current storyline, Crocus then returned to his home in the entrance to the Grand Line and told Laboon what he learned in his travels. However, despite Crocus telling Laboon of what he believed had happened to the Rumbar Pirates, the whale would not believe him and started bashing against Reverse Mountain in an attempt to rejoin his pirate comrades. Crocus, unable to stop Laboon from such a futile effort, decided to heal the scars Laboon was creating in any way he could as a doctor. Over the years as Crocus tried to convince Laboon to stop, he built an elaborate system of tunnels inside Laboon as the whale had grown too big for conventional medicines to work from the outside.





A B I L I T I E S


As a doctor, Crocus possesses expert medical knowledge. This ability allowed him to stabilize Gol D.Roger's health as he traveled with him across the Grand Line, and to have made it possible to install "routes" inside Laboon's body. Crocus is also a capable fighter. He tends to use harpoons as his choice of weapons, and his strength alone is adequate of defeating large sea creatures. He has also been shown to have either a high pain tolerance or defensive abilities as he has taken direct hits from bazookas while defending Laboon even in his old age, showing no signs of damage just moments afterward.

Mr. 9 is a young man who wears a golden crown on top of his red hair and has his agent number written on his cheeks. He wears a green suit with white lace along with a ruffled red scarf. His attire makes him look like a prince or a king, but he isn't.

His favorite phrase is "Bye bye, baby;" these were his last words to Miss Wednesday before he attempted to hold off Mr. 5 so she could escape. Unlike Officer Agents, who seem to believe that friendship is a sign of weakness, Mr. 9 is shown to highly value friendship and loyalty, as shown when he fought for Vivi's sake.


B A C K S T O R Y


He and Vivi (known as Miss Wednesday at the time) met the Sunny-go Pirates during the Reverse Mountain Arc while trying to kill Laboon, Crocus's whale, in order to bring the whale meat to Whiskey Peak as food for the town. The Sunny-go's gave them a ride when they accidentally lost their Log Pose.


After Vivi's identity was exposed by Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine, Mr. 9 tried to hold them off to allow her to escape, as he had grown fond of Vivi during their time together. He declared that they were still partners, effectively placing his loyalty to her above his loyalty to Baroque Works. Mr. 5 was irritated by this and finished him off with a Nose Cannon attack that knocked Mr. 9 into a river.


A B I L I T I E S


Mr. 9 was skilled enough to become a Frontier Agent. He uses his metal bats in conjunction with his acrobatic skills to deal damage to foes. His body is quite flexible, as he is able to perform several acrobatic jumps and cartwheels. Despite this, he is a weak foe; his acrobatics being useless against Officer Agents such as Mr. 5, and he is clumsy enough to fall off a building unprovoked.


Mr. 9 wields two steel bats and uses them in conjunction with his "acrobatics". With the momentum generated from his gymnastic feats, they can be quite powerful. He also hides steel ropes within the bats, allowing to subdue foes.

Nefertari Vivi

Vivi has long, wavy blue hair with two locks hanging down, one on either side of her head, which start out at about chin-length. She most often wears her hair pulled back into a ponytail. She has a slender body but tends to wear less-revealing clothes than some of the members of the Sunny-go Pirates.

Nefertari Vivi is the princess of Alabasta. She is the daughter of Nefertari Cobra and Nefertari Titi. She was one of the main antagonists of the Reverse Mountain Arc under the Baroque Works code name Miss Wednesday, but she ended up traveling with the Straw Hat Pirates for most of the Alabasta Saga after revealing herself to be a spy plotting against Baroque Works.




P E R S O N A L I T Y

Vivi does not fit the stereotype of a needy and authoritative princess, never demanding any special attention or prioritizing herself above others. In fact, she usually puts the needs of others far above her own and is hesitant to rely on others or ask for help with her problems. In particular, she places an enormous value on the citizens of her country and the lives of her friends.


She is also extremely brave and determined, going up against powerful enemies for her friends' sake even when clearly outmatched. Her selflessness and sense of responsibility push her to carry her country's burden. She is slow to anger and quick to forgive but fiercely loyal to her friends, her family, and her country.


As a member of Alabasta's royal family, she loves her country and is willing to do anything to protect it, even infiltrating a vast criminal organization. She doesn't mind doing tasks that seem unsuitable for a princess, such as washing dishes.


Vivi grew up knowing that she was responsible for the well-being of her country. As such, she developed a impressive skills as a diplomat. Even as a child, she understood what being a princess meant and acted with wisdom beyond her years.

B A C K S T O R Y

Many years later, Crocodile of the Shichibukai came to the country. A period of drought ensued, during which the entire country experienced a complete lack of rain, save for the city of Alubarna. Everyone thought the rain falling over the capital was a blessing of the King until some Dance Powder was discovered on its way into the city. Later, more Dance Powder was found planted in the royal palace, framing the king as the culprit behind the drought. Many knew the King would never do this, but the findings were enough to instill doubt in many younger citizens.


When the reputation of the King was sullied and a rebellion instigated, Vivi (along with Igaram, the Captain of the Royal Guard) infiltrated the criminal organization Baroque Works under an alias in order to discover the identity of the mastermind and ultimately prove the king's innocence. There, she discovered that the villain responsible for the chaos in her homeland was none other than Crocodile, a member of the Shichibukai.

Vivi is extremely good at moving about undetected, having established herself as a single digit member of Baroque Works for two years before her identity was compromised and returned to Alabasta unnoticed by the citizens. As a princess, Vivi did not have much experience in battle. However, as a Baroque Works frontier agent, she and her partner surpassed three other pairs in skill. Vivi can also make use of Carue in spite his frequent incompetence. On her own, she has surprising natural agility, often dodging attacks gracefully and almost mindlessly, often appearing surprised after it happens. Her instinct seems to be to tackle her opponent and hold them down.

The Unluckies

Miss Friday is a large, black-feathered vulture, with white feathers toward the neck. Her skin is pink, and her beak is a light yellow. She wears a yellow aviator cap dotted with red flowers, and black goggles.


Mr. 13 is a small, brown-furred otter with white fur around his snout. He wears a long-sleeved, light blue coat with purple dots, as well as black sunglasses.

The Unluckies are two Baroque Works agents. They consist of an otter named Mr. 13 and a vulture named Miss Friday. The Unluckies serve as messengers for Mr. 0, and are also responsible for executing any Baroque Works agents that fail their missions. They are classified as Type D creatures, "Small Savage".

The Unluckies, like the rest of the Baroque Works members, are quite brutal. The two, however, are not very faithful to their organization and its members, as they drew their fellow Baroque Works agents for the Marines in exchange for food.

They use bombs against some opponents, with Mr. 13 riding on Miss Friday and releasing the bombs while passing over enemies. They also display exceptional intelligence among animals, having tracked down other agents, understood human speech, and easily operated weaponry. Mr.13 seems to have an excellent memory and is a skilled artist.

Igaram is a tall man with a small red nose and has blonde hair in a style that resembles the wigs worn during the 16th and 17th centuries. Under the guise of Mr. 8, he dressed like a gentleman. Reflecting his codename Mr. 8, he has the number 8 at the tips of his collar. The curls in his hair also look similar to the number 8.

Igaram is the captain of the Alabasta royal guard (captain of Alabasta security in the English dub). He aided Nefertari Vivi in infiltrating Baroque Works and took on the codename Mr. 8. He was partnered with Miss Monday.

Igaram is extremely loyal to Vivi and he is prepared to give his life for her. He is also extremely worried about her when her life is threatened and in those cases can be very overprotective. Igaram has a unique way of speaking. Whenever his voice gets tired, he clears it by going "Ma~ma~ma~"


B A C K S T O R Y


He and Princess Vivi infiltrated Baroque Works and manage to become Frontier Agents in order to learn the organization's true boss and objectives. He was known as Mr. 8 by most of Baroque Works before being exposed.


A B I L I T I E S


As the head of the Alabasta Royal Guards, Igaram has command over the entire force under the Nefertari family. He would leave his position of power to Chaka when he is absent. As he is capable of becoming a frontier agent of Baroque Works, Igaram is considered to be a powerful fighter himself. He is also good with disguises. Igaram's abilities are based on firearms hidden in non-conspicuous places on his person. He fights with a saxophone that shoots bullets when played, and he also has small guns hidden in his hair that fire when he pulls on his neck tie.


Igarappa: Igaram's attack using his saxophone. When he plays it, the saxophone fires a blast of bullets like a giant shotgun.


Igarappappa: After pulling his necktie strings to expose the gun barrels hidden in the curls of his hair, he attacks by pulling the loops of his necktie to fire explosive bullets.

Miss Monday

Miss Monday is a tall, muscular woman with dark skin and pink hair pulled into short twin-tails. She wears a short dress with a magenta and white diamond pattern, and three green flowers. A distinctive feature of hers is her soft high-pitched voice more commonly associated with small, frail girls (which helps when it comes to disguising, as seen when she posed as a nun without her true size and strength being noticed)

Miss Valentine is a woman with short blond hair and bright green eyes.


She wears a yellow and orange hat, as well as a yellow dress with a lemon-like pattern, lemon earrings, and white high-heeled shoes. She also added a blue jacket with white stripes over this attire during the Little Garden Arc (Which comes after Whiskey Peak). She is almost always seen carrying a bright green parasol with blue stripes.

She does not seem to take her job very seriously, greeting any situation with a lighthearted laugh. She generally allows her partner Mr. 5 to do any necessary talking. Being a Baroque Works officer agent, she is quite confident in her abilities. She also doesn't like being ignored, especially when she's attacking. And she has a love for unnecessary cruelty.

Miss Valentine herself displays very little combat ability beyond the simple use of her Devil Fruit power. For the most part, she lets her partner, Mr. 5, do most of the fighting while she functions as support. Miss Valentine has eaten the Kilo Kilo no Mi, a Paramecia-class Devil Fruit which allows her to change her mass to anything between 1 and 10,000 kilograms. She uses this power to crush her opponents, or to make her light enough to glide through the air using her umbrella. As she is partnered with Mr. 5, she can ride the force of his explosions, dropping high from midair by increasing her mass suddenly for devastating dive-bomb force.

Mr. 5 is a tall, dark-skinned man with black hair in short spiky dreadlocks. He wears a brown trench coat with a pink cravat and a pair of sunglasses, regardless of the time of day. Like the other officers, his number is shown both on his clothing and his body. He has a "5" on his coat; this number is also tattooed on his right shoulder.

Mr. 5 is the lowest-ranked officer agent in Baroque Works along with his partner, Miss Valentine.


P E R S O N A L I T Y


Like most of the Baroque Works agents, he is extremely confident and believes that friendship is a sign of weakness. Despite this, Mr. 5 is very respectful to his partner Miss Valentine and does not get annoyed with her like some other Baroque Works partnerships. Mr. 3 describes Mr. 5 as "an over-ambitious fool who did not realize his limits and misused his Devil Fruit powers". He also appears to have a short temper.

As a member of Baroque Works officer agents, Mr. 5 has plenty of confidence in his abilities and is respected if not outright feared among the lower tier agents of Baroque Works. But he is not without flaws, because he has a tendency to overestimate his own abilities and underestimate the capabilities of his opponents. Mr. 5 has the power of the destructive Bomu Bomu no Mi, a Paramecia Devil Fruit which allows him to turn any part of his body into a bomb without harming himself and it renders all explosive based attacks useless against him. He can make any part of his body, even his entire body, explode, but he mainly uses boogers from his nose.


Mr. 5 holds a new model pistol from South Blue, a flintlock .44 caliber 6 shot revolver, which has rapid-fire capabilities. This pistol is used for Mr. 5's Breeze Breath Bomb, in which he breathes into the flintlock's chambers, and then empties all six rounds at his opponents quickly. He preferred to use this weapon only for tougher situations.


Since his breath is explosive thanks to his Bomu Bomu no Mi, the six invisible air bullets accumulate much more damage than that of normal ones, as well as having infinite ammunition and them being invisible. Mr. 5 tends to empty all six rounds per attack, causing massive damage on one target, and then swiftly refill.

She wears a skimpy cowgirl outfit consisting of a purple cleavage-exposing corset and matching miniskirt, both with white ornaments hanging from them, and a white fur-lined coat paired with a white cowboy hat and white high-heeled boots. Nico Robin is a tall, slender, yet athletic woman with shoulder-length black hair. She has blue eyes, with dark, wide pupils, and she has a long, thin and defined nose.

Through her heritage on the island of scholars, Robin is an archaeologist and historian who seeks the comfort and freedom to study the mysteries of the world. She is quiet, and more reserved than most people, rarely having outbursts of emotions. Robin has a somewhat macabre side to her, and often points out gross or morbid facts. She will express enthusiasm for anything with a horror theme.

At a young age, Robin acquired a bounty of

79,000,000 for consuming the Hana Hana no Mi, making her considerably powerful, and supposedly sinking six Buster Call warships with herDevil Fruit powers. This was a lie, however, the bounty was issued because she can read the Poneglyphs which tell the Void Century. Those ships were actually destroyed by Jaguar D. Saul after helping Robin escape during the destruction of Ohara. Robin's life on the run since the tender age of 8 has taught her the ways of survival and self-preservation, and has earned herself notoriety for being able to evade inescapable situations.

Robin is also a skilled archaeologist with a vast knowledge of history and cultures. She is also one of the few people alive (if not the only one) who can read the language written on poneglyph tablets, which contain records of ancient history. And this was the actual reason why her first bounty was so high, despite being so young. Robin has no superhuman abilities beyond her Devil Fruit powers but is an above average athlete. While the frequent use of her powers in battle leave much of her physical attributes in question, it is hinted from time to time that Robin's physical prowess is actually much stronger than her frail build would otherwise suggest.

Crocodile is a tall man with a wide chest, broad shoulders, muscular arms and legs, and a thick neck. He has pale skin and nape-length black hair (dark purple in the anime) which is kept neatly slicked back, though strands tend to fall in front of his face during battles. Crocodile has various battle wounds, most notably a long stitched scar at the bridge of his nose that stretches across his face and a large hook made from a tough gold alloy in place of his left hand. His eyes are deep-set and heavy-lidded, and his thin eyebrows are characteristically drawn upward in the middle. This gives his usual facial expression a feeling of condescension and distrust. Crocodile speaks with a deep, relaxed voice, and he is usually seen smoking a thick cigar produced by his company. His theme of dress is meant to convey the image of an Italian mafia boss. He stands to be a good 8'3½ feet tall.

Crocodile is self-assured, confident in himself and in his abilities. He enjoys toying with weaker opponents, often grinning and laughing smugly during battle. His willingness to kill shows his pitiless nature, and he does not think twice about sentencing another person to death. He is also very quick to get angry if someone insults or ridicules him in any way. By his own admission, he is not always rational. Despite his low tolerance for receiving insults, he has a habit of insulting others and frequently used the word "worthless" to refer to the desperate struggles of his enemies. Crocodile is known to insult others and generally imply that they are far inferior to him, whether he's fighting a rookie or a fellow Shichibukai. If Crocodile is extremely angry or annoyed with his victim, he will rarely kill them outright, instead leaving them to suffer as they slowly die. Crocodile shows no emotional concern for any of his subordinates. He is fully willing to sacrifice them to achieve his ambitions. He lacks any code of honor whatsoever. Crocodile has a complete lack of fear and doubt. He usually appears to be very composed.


B A C K S T O R Y


When Crocodile was younger, he witnessed the execution of Gol D. Roger at Loguetown.


At one point in the past, Crocodile's dream was to become the Pirate King. He once went to the New World and grew adapted to its erratic environment. As time went by, though, he grew in power and experience and lost sight of the importance of dreams and trust in other people.


After becoming a Shichibukai in his mid twenties, he was defeated by Whitebeard (Someone we'll learn more about). This left a lingering desire for vengeance in the young Crocodile's heart. He eventually let go of his dream of being the Pirate King and, after learning of a weapon called Pluton, decided to aim for that instead. He began to focus on Alabasta and became known as a hero who hunted down pirates. At age 30, he was featured on the front page of a newspaper, having recently defeated some pirates. During his time as a rookie, he had crossed paths with Emporio Ivankov, who ended up with the knowledge of Crocodile's precious weakness.


Crocodile secretly started a crime syndicate called Baroque Works. Being careful not to attract too much attention to himself, he gathered some of the best bounty hunters in the world and gave them code names based on power.


A B I L I T I E S


Crocodile is extremely intelligent and cunning. This is apparent from his ability to mastermind Baroque Works while keeping the World Government completely in the dark about what he was doing and making himself out to be a hero in the eyes of the people. He is also skilled at crafting near-flawless plans and noticing things that most other people would not. He is known to deduce a correct conclusion based on very little information. He seems to have a better understanding of Devil Fruits than most people, as evidenced by his mastery of his Logia-type powers. Despite his powers being of the Logia-type, allowing him to turn into sand to avoid injuries, he has a great amount of stamina and endurance as well. Crocodile ate the LogiaDevil Fruit, Suna Suna no Mi, allowing him to become, generate, and manipulate sand. He has mastered his ability to the point of perfection and can turn into sand reflexively if attacked. While in a desert area, his powers make him nearly invincible. Crocodile has the ability to create huge sandstorms, make multiple bladed weapons out of sand, and create quicksand (given the presence of a nearby underground waterway.) He can also suck all the moisture out of any object, living or non-living, by touching it with his right hand. This ability allows him to utterly destroy his surroundings, killing and macerating any biological substances via dehydration. Crocodile is also formidable in hand-to-hand combat. The gold part of the hook is hollow and can be removed to expose a poisonous hook hidden inside. This porous secondary hook releases a powerful scorpion venom, which is strong enough to melt through rock and kill anyone with the effect of a single slash. In the unlikely event that the hook becomes damaged, there is a knife hidden underneath that can be ejected and used in its place. In a pinch, the very wide base of the hook can also serve as an improvised mace-like weapon.
