Pirate War (w/ Roman)

Elm didn't respond for a while, then asked as they entered the resting area, "One: why do you constantly defend your father? Two: How did you get stuck as quarter master of your father's own boat? Three: What makes you so sure that you'll be captain?" She then turned to face him, arms crossed.

"Well... He is my father. The keyword in that sentence is father. For two: I impressed him with raids and other things. Three: It was already discussed. Is that all you want to know if you think you wanna finish getting in details about me?" Alastair asked. "You'll be sleeping here with the rest of the crew. Don't bother trying to leave. We have people watching just in case of attackers."

Elm rolled her eyes as he spoke, and leaned against one of the bedposts. "You're a very confusing person, I hope you know that." She then added, "And don't think I'm not capable of escaping - I thought you at least knew me a little better than that. What will I be doing on this ship, anyway? I'm not going to tastelessly labor like some of the other crew members."

"That's too bad. New ship, you're starting from the bottom..." Alastair said chuckling a little. "Now if you have any questions, you can find me in my room down the hall. Don't just barge in. At least knock first." He said walking away. "Also, it's better to be confusing, that way people have a hard time figuring you out."

A few minutes after Alistair was out of sight, she knew what she had to do. She wasn't going to start at the bottom, not if she could help it.

Elm left the resting area and went up to the deck, where she continued back into the other side, where the captain's quarters sat. She opened the door without any warning and approached the captain at his desk.

"I'll make this quick and easy for both of us," Elm said matter-of-factly, "I know more about the ocean and the world of piracy more than you, your son, or any member of your crew. You can try to deny it, but I know it's true, and so do you. Keen wouldn't lie about that. If I'm going to be stuck here, then I'm going to do more than fixing masts and scrubbing floors. If you don't like that, then please," she spread out her arms, "go ahead and kill me."

The captain looked up from his map and frowned, "You barge in here, demanding I give you a higher status, then tell me to kill you. Would you not even want to show your knowledge? You're crazy..."

Elm smirked. "If I wasn't crazy, I wouldn't be where I am now."

She looked down at the captains map. She leaned forward and pointed to a small area of land. "There's an island off of the coast of Belize. It contains three different underground caverns, two of them rich in minerals, the other in gold and silver. There's no name for the island because only about a dozen people even know the island exists." She pointed to another location, "Now here - at the bottom right coast of Cuba, is a village of natives - they go by the name of the Apaños. They hold a ritual once every full moon in which they burn incense to the gods, and in return they're given a fresh harvest. They store the crops from this harvest under the village itself, which doesn't only contain food. When ships wreck there, they rob the crew of their weapons, assimilate them into their culture, and take their gold. However, they leave their stashes unguarded."

Elm straightened up, and looked down at the captain in his chair, arms crossed. "Would you like to know more?" She asked.

"Good to know. I'll assign you as Alastair's assistant. If he puts in a good word, I'll make you quarter master when I give him the ship. Til' then, goodbye. I have work to do and I don't want to be disturbed. Go tell, Alastair what I just did for you or whatever. I don't care."

Elm didn't budge. She looked down at the captain with contempt. "What is your issue, might I ask, with your son? And your crew? And with me? Is your work so important that everyone else means nothing to you? Without them, without your son, you'd have no ship."

The captain looked up, "It's not that. It's you. I don't know you. I don't trust you. The only person who seems to even know you is Alastair. Therefore, you will be under his watch until I see you as a trustworthy member of this ship!" He shouted slamming a fist on his table. "Now go!"

Elm stared back at the captain, eyes narrow. "I will never be a member of this ship." She then left the quarters, slamming the door behind her.

She made her way back to the resting area, where she slumped into one of the beds. Whose it was, she didn't care. It was hers now. She lay there, staring at the ceiling with contempt as the ship rocked back and forth. "This couldn't be much worse," she said to herself.

Alastair walked out of his room, hearing a door slam. He saw Elm come down and lay in a bed, so he walked over to her. "Elm? Mind telling me what happened with you two? I might take up for my dad a lot but I know he can be a real tough one."

Elm said, eyebrow raised. "A real tough one? No, that's not it. He's up to something." She shook her head, "but that's none of your concern, I guess. Also, he told me that I was your assistant, but that's almost a laughable thought." She lay back down on the bed, looking at the ceiling. "And what's your deal with me, anyway? Don't you have other stuff to do?"

"Well, not at the moment. All my work is really done when we are looting or adventuring. When we're sailing I'm free as a bird." Alastair said smirking. "My deal with you though? Tell me: Have you seen any other female crew members?" He asked a confused expression on his face. "I believe your the first."

Elm shrugged. "I'm just as good as any other pirate, if not better. I'd prefer to be here than anywhere any other woman is, though. Well..." She paused, "I don't really want to be HERE, but you know what I mean."

"I know what you mean. Just know I'll treat as if you belong, only because you are gonna be here for awhile." He said, his voice showing he was serious with that very statement. "You and Keen must have had a little... connection." Alastair chuckled and sat at the foot of the bed. "How long did you serve on Keen's ship? 3-4 years? If you don't want to tell me, that's fine." He said nodding. "

Elm looked at Alistair, studied him for a minute. "I don't see why you care so much. I don't know if I would if I were in your position." She then sat up and answered, "9 years, almost 10. And we didn't have a connection. I'm just his first mate, and he was the captain. We just understood each other, is all."

"Remember when you called that guy nosy? Yeah, he isn't the nosy one, that's me." Alastair said quietly. He looked around, noticing the crew was all getting ready for bed. Alastair stood up and sighed, "We continue our conversation tomorrow. OH! Keep in mind what I said about those guards. They're no one to mess with." He said turning toward his room, "Goodnight."

"Hey!" Elm called after him, then stopped herself. She debated on what to say next, and then finally ended up blurting, "If it's any consolation, I don't think you're nosy."

"That's nice. I'll be going now." Alastair opened his door and went inside. He lit a latern and closed the door behind him. Alastair poked his head out of the door and smiled, "Hey Elm. I don't think you're as half bad as I thought."

Elm tried to hide the smile on her face. "Maybe you're not as bad as I thought either." She then turned over in her bed and pretended to be trying to go to sleep, waiting for him to close the door.

After he did so, she waited another minute or two before quickly sitting up in bed and looking around. Darkness was all the eye could see, and almost every crew member seemed to be asleep already. She could hardly sleep. She had to find some way to get out. She had to get back to the Pharoh.

She took off her shoes and touched the floor with her bare feet, completely silent. She glanced from left to right, then stood up and began tiptoeing out of the room.

There were small lifeboats attached to the side of the boat. If she could just slip into one, then perhaps she could catch the Pharoh in a nearby port.

The two guards that were on watch, were busy talking about something. One of them heard something and immediately turned around, "Get ready. Someone is aboard..." a tall slender man said. The other man nodded and pulled out a dagger from his pants. "Where are you?" They asked in sync.

Elm saw and heard the two guards and froze. Alistair said they weren't to be messed with, but neither was she. She longed for some sort of weapon, but she supposed she would make do. Slinking through the shadows, she advanced onto the tall man, jumping onto his back and snatching the dagger from his hand, knocking him out with the hilt and repeating with the other man. She then advanced onto the main deck.

From the upper sides of the boat, she could see small lifeboats. Sighing in relief, she approached one and began untying it from the side.

The captain threw his door open and saw, Elm. "Hey! What the hell are you doing?! Get away from that boat!" He shouted as he ran toward her. "If you untie that boat, you'll regret it."

Alastair came up from his room, "What's going on out here?! Who did this to the guards?" He asked anger in his voice. The captain pointed to Elm and started cursing. Alastair frowned and shook his head, "I thought we're actually bonding. Then you turn around and do this?"

Elm looked from the captain to Alistair and shook her head. "I'm sorry, Alistair. As long as I'm on this ship, I'm a prisoner." She still held the dagger firmly in her hand. "I would prefer to be somewhere I had a purpose." She continued to inch closer and closer to the boat.
