Fantasy Pieces O' Eight

At the bottom of the stairs you find a rather large wine cellar, that has been all but cleared of anything that may have been stored here. You see 7 rough looking fellows surrounding a girl in her late teens. The girl is cursing fluidly in Montaigne as the men laugh and jeer in a mix of Castille, and Vodacce.

The one who seems to be the leader of the ruffians speaks over the others, " Come on girl we don't have time for this and you'd fare not better than we would in the hands of the Inquisition. In fact I suspect you'd fare far worse."

The girl replies amid a string of curses," I'll not you son of a whore, I'd suffer the rack to watch you swing."

You enter at that moment and everyone turns in your direction.

"Gentlemen, I'm sorry to say that you will not be touching a hair on that señorita. Oh, wait, I lied. I'm not sorry about that." The Castillian woman smirks haughtily. "And I doubt you lot are gentlemen, which means it is unlikely that a skilled gentlewoman such as myself can let you get away with pestering the señorita."

The leader of the rabble sneers," We have no time for this kill them."

You are facing a brute squad of 6 with a threat level 3 (6k3) and a TN of 15. Their leader is henchman with a TN 25 of.

"Oh, a dance!" Antonia falls into the classic Aldana stance.

Dropping the 1, initiative total of 12.

"Kill them? Really?" Six on two and they still had to save the girl. "What happened to pleasant conversation followed by threats of violence? You are breaking the rules."

I'll give @Silent Wayfarer a bit to roll, though he has not posted in a while.

Actually you might want to keep the one. In 7th Sea each die gives you an action on a phase 1-10 rather than a total. 1's act first. So with that roll you'd get two actions on phase 1 and another on phase 5 assuming you want to take the 5. If you don't roll any low numbers you can spend two action dice of higher numbers to interrupt a villain or brute squad going before you, if you wish. You can keep to your passive defense or you can hold a die to use in active defense later in the round or to make an attack at the end if that defense is not needed.

So as it stands now the Brutes and Antoina each have actions on phase 1 (2 if Antonia wishes).

As a reminder-- the brutes attack as a group with a TN of 15 for you to hit them. If you hit you automatically knock one out, they are trash mobs. Each raise you take would allow you to knock out an additional brute. So if you took two raises for a TN of 25 and hit you would knock out 3. Right now they are rolling 6k3 each brute you knock out removes a rolled die from their stat line.

Phase 2

She was a smuggler. Combat was to be avoided when possible. And then there were times like these. Half a dozen brutes thinking they can just push around some girl with threats of brutality, common stock for a brute.

Aiming for two brutes (TN15+5)

Finesse 3, knife: fight 3, left-handed +1k0 (7k3)

Keeping 10, 7, 5 (22)

With little fanfare, she strode into combat, twirling her coat in a large sweeping arc to draw the attention of the two thugs moving toward her, while she shifted the knife to her left hand. Idiots probably thought she would fight fairly.

The first had a wicked grin obviously planning some nefarious activity after the fight. Too bad he was enjoying himself already, since the left-handed thrust caught him completely unawares. The uppercut drove the point in just beneath the ribs and angled upward, designed more for efficiency rather than display. Unlike her sword woman companion, the fewer who saw what was coming to them, the better.

The second dropped just as quickly. First with a solid knee to his thigh, forcing his muscles to spasm uncontrollably, limiting his movement. Quickly that was followed by a pommel hilt coming up just under the chin. The man had a moments glance at the ceiling as he toppled backward, laying flat on the ground unconscious.

Her coat finished its arc, as she spun full circle to face the rest of the attackers. The coat held before her hiding her figure just in case someone decided to fire a shot in her direction. "One moment, Madame," she called in native Montaigne, "but you will need someone a bit better skilled to get you safely away from this town."

The brutes seems startled by Antonia's moves and trip over themselves for their attack

Their leader tries to use the girl as a shield as he loosely clutch his sword.

OOC
Antonia can take her phase 5 action

Antonia swiftly moves in between a group of three of the henchmen and, with style, spins around. Her blade catches all three as intended, her eyes now trained on the two remaining enemies.

Phase 5

Celeste turned quickly to the thug coming at her flank. As he lunged she stepped sideways, driving her knee into his ribs. Then followed through with hard dagger hilt to the back of his head.

Within a few seconds, the two women had cleared the room of the riff-raff. She could only wonder how bold their last opponent might be.

Two more of the ruffians fall and the last two suddenly seem to remember they have urgent business elsewhere and dash out of the room leaving you facing their boss who is still clutching the girl--though with far less confidence. He seems unsure of the situation and keeps shifting hos gaze from you to the girl and back to his sword, as if he were suddenly unsure if any of the three existed.

Antonia steps forward, sword out and pointing ever-so-menacingly towards the man. "Drop the girl and we'll let you go. Hurt her and I promise to dispatch you in a most painfully humiliating way. Your choice."

Thinking of his situation the villain breaks and blots for the door--you can let him go or attack at your leisure. (In either case he is out of the fight--if you attack he will be rendered unconscious or you can let him bolt).

A woman of her word, Antonia lets the man run by her as she takes a cloth to clean her blade. She looks over the girl they just rescued and offers a hand and speaks in the girl's native Montaigne. "Are you alright, mademoiselle?"

The girl looks about cautiously, "Yes---I think so." She looks a bit confused.

She is dressed in a simple peasants dress but with long sleeves and gloves. Her manner and speech however betray that she is no peasant girl. She is of passing beauty though certainly not remarkably so, with dark hair the color of rich chocolate, a fair complexion, and steel grey eyes.

"Those men accosted me a few days ago while my companion was away getting supplies, I need to get back to him."

"The Inquisition is here, it is best you not go out. Those men spoke of what you are." Antonia runs a hand at the back of her neck as she smiles weakly. That hand then finds its way over her heart, in an honest gesture. "But, if you could help us escape, I will give you my word as Dona of the Rodriguez family. I will help you find your companion and get you to safety."

The girl looks at you and nods. Taking off her gloves and reveals hands that appear to be stained with blood. She turns reaching up a literally tearing a hole out of the air to the faint sound of screaming. "Take my hand and form a chain, whatever you do---do NOT open your eyes." She extends a hand toward you.

Antonia nods while reaching out her hand to grab the girl's and with the other, grabs onto Celeste's hand. And slowly she closes her eyes. "I am ready whenever you ladies are."

With a tug you and the others are led through, you can feel a faint tugging as if something were pulling at your very souls and whispers in the dark beyond your closed eyes. After what seems like several minutes the girl speaks," You may open you eyes." You find yourselves standing in a glade (anyone so incline can make a Navigation or Sailing check to surmise you relative position based n where the sun is--assuming that only a few minute passed on your journey). Standing in the glade next to a large enclosed wagon with a team of horses standing by is a large man in armor. Armor being a rare site these days it is either Drachenesien or the man is crazy.

The wagon looks about like this, only it is painted dark green and is a bit larger.
