People rarely join my RPs, and it's not just on this site.

Horror of the Sea
To the point that I'm considering to stop RPing on another site. I won't tell the site's name unless you guys want me to.

I don't know if it's just because said site has much more creativity constraints than other sites or if I'm missing something huge, but if I don't stop my RPs from getting no joiners on that site, I'll have to quit RPing there, even though I like it. I just can't enjoy it when no one joins my RPs.

Some notes:

1. There is no forum to place interest checks on said site, so that makes RPs difficult get joiners.

2. There is an advertising thread, but everyone reposts their RP advertisement every time the thread goes to a new page.

What are your role plays about, and how well developed are the storylines?

Most people are either looking for a particular role play, are simply not interested in certain genres. Also sometimes, they may like the same genre and concept as your role play, but may not like your plotline or the way it is written. People can be picky sometimes, how unfortunate as it may be. Try to find what seems to be the interest of others, and make it your interest. In my personal opinion, it's fun trying to figure out and adapt to something you've never done before. If you would prefer not to do that, try to at least find something that would be a mutual interest.

The majority of RPs I make are action-oriented RPs. Romance is fine in them, but that's not the center point. Anyways, one of the RPs I made was a virtual reality one, not like Sword Art Online, but rather like Metaverse from Snow Crash-esque. It's so far only gotten one joiner aside from me. The other I made was an Atlantis-esque urban fantasy one, with almost no limit on species you could choose from. That one no one joined.

Whoo! I read Snow Crash and LOVED the book, so I just had to answer cause you mentioned it ( :P ). If you only have one joiner, that makes me think you didn't give enough information in your set-up.

Did you have what was going to happen as well as the setting detailed out? Or did you have just a few lines about each? People usually flock to VR RPs just because of that subject alone, and if you only had one joiner, it's probably because there was something wrong with your presentation.

Okay, yes definitely. I checked your Atlantis-esque RP and it is definitely missing a lot of things. When you make Fandoms, you don't have to do much because the world is already made. What you created, is basically a new (original) world. Original world RPs are a LOT of work. You have to explain almost every detail of the world, or no one is going to be able understand anything. No one can slap a single picture on that kind of RP with a few lines of summary and expect a lot of folks to join. It's just not going to happen.

I haven't checked the forums, but I'll bet all my money, that there are no "simple-level" original-world role-plays, that have lasted a while. Hard work is the trade-off for using an original world.

If you set your Metaverse-like RP in the world of SAO, I bet you'd have quite a few interested people.

Alright then.

Additionally, the VR RP has several "realms". Said realms are worlds of the VR, basically. Created by programmers, realms are customized worlds often having a theme. Themes can be pretty much anything, from fantasy, to horror. There's a grand central station that connects every existing realm, so that players can have an easy time navigating between them. People can buy and sell the land inside them with a virtual currency.

Then you have to describe each world and the central station in detail. If you want, I can give you a link to an RP here, that has a good setup to give you an idea of how it should be.

I described the worlds in a couple of lines, not like two paragraphs per world, because it was on a site where people don't demand lots of lore in RPs. Additionally, people can make their own worlds.

Gotcha. Well it's really up to you. You can keep things short and hope people fill in their own worlds and information for you, but you might be waiting a long time to get anything started.

I can't speak on the other site because I don't know what it is/never been there, but here, short descriptions won't get you far, unless you're doing a high school or Fandom roleplay.

The site is Chicken Smoothie if you're curious. I've been on that site for five or so years. The creators of the site provide ten roleplaying sub-forums. They are the following: realistic humans, realistic animals, fantasy humans/humanoids, fantasy animals, fandom humans/humanoids, fandom animals, advanced/detailed humans/humanoids, advanced/detailed animals, 1x1 and invite-only, and a discussion forum. Though people only use the discussion forum to post their OOC and/or sign-ups thread.

It's actually better than what it used to be because there used to be only two roleplaying sub-forums on Chicken Smoothie years ago, which were only human/humanoids of any kind and animals and animals of any kind.

Okay now we're getting somewhere. That site is not roleplay dedicated. This one is. I can say that's a big reason why you might not have gotten many interested players.

For example, out of 100 people there, 25 might be into RP while over here, all 100 would be. So honestly, you'd have better chances of picking people up here than over there.

How you did things over there, won't work here. RPN from what I've seen, has people that are seriously into writing. They either have written books themselves, are a writing\english major, or are very interested in writing. I myself am here for the acting aspect of RP, but people here for writing, beat users here for anything else, by a lot.

This is why I think your short descriptions won't work here. You're really trying to convince some serious writers to work with what you've created. There's a much higher standard you have to reach here.

Alright. I'll attempt to put more detail into my RPs on this site.
Wonderful. I think the better you flesh things out, the better results you'll get. Good luck to you
