Introduction:

Welcome To Aurora, a bustling town full of life and charm. It is a lot like other towns, and full of a variety of people who call it’s streets home. It doesn't matter how you got here or why. It makes no difference if you moved here a few weeks ago or if you have been here your whole life. You will always remember the day you got here and wonder what possessed you to stay. Be it destiny or coincidence, you were at ground zero when the world went to hell.

What the population doesn't know is that a very sick man was transported to the local hospital just a few weeks past. Whatever he has, it has the doctors stumped. He only has a short while left on this earth, they can't combat his sickness, he is doomed. His death will bring mass genocide to the town of Aurora.

Whatever he had, it didn't let him stay dead, and it's contagious. So contagious in fact, that the slightest scratch, or bite passes it on. They get the same disease, slowly killing them from the inside. The time varies from person to person, they could have weeks left, days, or maybe just hours. When their hearts stop, they join the hordes of walking corpses. At first glance they look human, but they are mindless, soulless monsters. They have only one human instinct left, the need to feed.
They will eat anything they can get their hands on, anything alive...and that means you.

It doesn’t matter how you got to Aurora or why, the real question is can you get out alive?

Everyone is infected. The virus that causes reanimation is airborne, and everyone in Aurora has become a carrier for the disease, even if they don’t realize it. It doesn’t matter how you die, moments after you will reanimate and join the army of undead. The only death that seems to be immune to reanimation is a trauma to the brain.

Something even more vile can be contracted by blood. This means that if any part of the undead comes into contact with your bloodstream, through any wound, you are stricken with a fatal illness. No wound is safe, any break in the skin, any scratch, any cut is capable of ending your life. The length of time from when you contract the disease, from the time you die varies from person to person, but the location also has some effect. A bite to a major artery will cause the disease to spread quicker than a lesser one. The most common forms of becoming infected with this virus are by zombie bite or scratch, although you can become infected through other forms of contact.
The corpses are led by the most basic instincts, the need to eat. They are not inherently smart but do retain a certain amount of intelligence. While they don’t speak or retain any of their humanity they do know enough to move toward sounds, smells, and sights that would lead them toward food. This means that sometimes large groups of corpses are attracted to the same areas and end up moving into what some would call “herds”

It’s hard to predict how the zombies will move, you might be lucky enough to find a few stragglers by themselves, but in well populated areas it is likely that you will run into herds and it will become easy to become overwhelmed and surrounded.

Be cautious of noises like car alarms, sirens, and even guns. While guns can be a useful and rare commodity in the apocalypse, a good survivor knows when a silent kill is more useful and is the difference between success and death.

The undead tend to overpower the living because they don’t have the brain activity that keeps them from damaging their muscles by using too much strength. You’re greatest asset against the walkers is your brain and speed. You will lose a strength contest with them every time (unless they are missing limbs or have other physical limitations) Thankfully they tend to move much slower than normal humans.

Severe brain trauma is the only way to dispatch a reanimated corpse and is the only way to keep a human from turning. Examples of this include:

  • Being shot in the head
  • Bludgeoning a skull
  • Hard hits to the head via objects like baseball bats or crowbars
  • Force to the temples

Supplies:

  • While it would seem that you should always pick a weapon over that can of ravioli, a backpack full of food might be just what you need to stay alive. You can just as easily die of dehydration or starvation as you can by becoming a zombie's lunch. Keep tabs on your rations.
  • No gun has unlimited shots, and that being said, ammo can be heavy and limit your mobility. Aurora has been a peaceful town until the undead invaded, so guns and ammo are also extremely hard to come by. Be wary of your ammo supply and capacity and always aim for the head.
  • Not every location is going to have supplies, be smart about how and where you take the time to loot.

Landmarks In Aurora
Aurora Central:

The central part of town. This is where the more city like landscapes are and most of the major buildings like the courthouse, town hall, hospitals and most comercial places.

Freeman Medical Center:
This was once the top rated hospital in the county. Many patients have been sent here when lesser hospitals couldn't treat them. It makes sense that a man with a incurable disease would be sent to Freeman for treatment. As soon as the virus sets in, this place is the first to be slaughtered. It is soon crawling with mindless, flesh-hungry monstrosities. Going here after the outbreak is most certainly a death wish. However for the right party, or brave soul this could be a great asset full of untouched medical supplies. Stay clear unless you have the skills and resources to take on horde after horde of undead.
Aurora Police Department
The Aurora Police Department has never gotten much business. The occasional shoplifter or teenager after curfew is as much action as these men ever get to handle. Every once in a while they would have to go stop some shady activity in the downtown area. This has not been the case since the outbreak. The few cells that it has have been filled to the brim with people who have been bitten and not yet turned. The APD is now abandoned and could have guns and ammunition, or it could just have lots of starving crazed people, desperate to do anything to escape.
James D. Wilcox Middle School
Nowhere was safe after the outbreak, the local middle school is no exception. These poor defenseless kids are trapped in it's isolated walls. Will you brave the long dark hallways looking for your loved ones that could be trapped inside? Or will you only find they have been turned into high speed flesh eaters with faces of the children you once loved?
John Bentley Public Park
Once filled with the shrill laughter of small children, John Bentley Park is now eerily quiet. Nothing but the squeaking of empty swings remains. One might find shelter in the play towers, or find a hot meal at the grills and picnic tables. Just be careful your fires don't attract some unwelcome guests.
Aurora Town Hall
The place of official business in Aurora. It used to be the beacon of hope for the citizens of Aurora, now the white marble halls are now stained red. With it's open door policy, you can stop by any time, and who knows, you might even get to meet the mayor! Lucky you…
Aurora Museum of Human History
Not so popular among the citizens of Aurora, this dusty and semi-abandoned museum has been under some recent reconstruction to attract more visitors. These thick walls seem to be the perfect resting place for survivors. Keep an eye out for the night guard, Stan, he doesn't like people messing with his artifacts.

Down Town
The smell of dirt, grime, trash and now rotting flesh fills these slummy streets. Home to some shady businesses such as Bert N' Ernie's, this is the sort of place you might meet some “interesting characters” who still have a heartbeat.
Bert N' Ernie's Pawn Shop
This pawn shop is located in the downtown area, and has seen its share of shady customers. It goes without saying that over half of the merchandise they have is stolen. The only thing Bert and Ernie are better at than buying stuff for cheap and selling it for more, is keeping secrets. So weapons are no stranger to Bert N' Ernie's walls. Just keep in mind that the history of any weapon you get from them might be a little on the gruesome side.
Moe's “Don't Tell” Motel
If you have been able to avoid getting a virus of any sort so far, your luck has run out. If you have to go anywhere near this establishment you're sure to catch something here. If you're fortunate, that screaming from room 202 is just another average night for Mrs. Davis and one of her “friends”.
Monster Mike's Gun Store
With it's creaky sign swaying in the breeze out front, right next to a rusty torpedo, this little building is owned by the beloved town veteran Monster Mike. No one knows how he earned his nickname, the story changes every time he tells it. Despite being out of the Marines for many years, he still has a body fit for the service. Not a soul alive knows more about guns than he does, and now nobody ever will.

Suburbia
Soccer mom's and carpools are not uncommon here. These middle class citizens are doing better than some, but not as well as they would like. Temporary salvation might be found within these cute two story family homes, alongside some useful supplies. Just beware those blue collar zombies looking to work not so hard for their next snack.
Aleckzandur's Junk Yard
His mother may have never taught him how to spell (as she never learned herself), but Aleckzandur knows his way around an engine. You might find a car worth repairing in this lot of broken junk, but more likely you are just going to find yourself lost in this zombie infested labyrinth of scrap metal.
Town and Country Supermarket
This was once the main place for shopping in the small bumbling town of Aurora. With all the people in this Walmart like grocery store it can be easily concluded that one bite turned the place to chaos. Chock full of supplies you will have to be quick to loot it, because everyone is thinking about the shelves upon shelves of food and necessities that it contains. Not only will you have to watch your back from the undead lining the aisles but from the other survivors who think they need food more than you and will do anything to obtain it.
Hermit's Hardware Store
Part of the strip mall with the supermarket, Hermit's Hardware Store gets a good bit of business. From supplies to fix your house all the way to dog food in bulk, Mr. Hermit sells it all. With an open mind you'll be tinkering your way to many zombie killing contraptions.
