Brennen's Bastion - some called it 'Northpearl' even before it was built, the ambitious project of a more ambitious, young king. For years, people talked about the magical well, symbol of a new era of prosperity. They talked about turning the Northvein, the untamed river, into the lifeline of an entirely new province, forming civilisation from scratch. And the Bastion near its wellspring was meant to be the beginning. Then the war came, from south. And people, busy saving their lifes, and homes, and hopes, forgot. All but the few that remain, or remember. The new academy never opened. The piers rarely see a ship. The houses stand empty. The well is but a faint memory of greatness.
Until now. They say that the enemy marches through the eastern wastelands, crossing the uncrossable mountains. And that others stand at the ready to seize opportunities should they arise. The exiled cult of the Old Man watches closely, ready to prove itself, or strike - noone knows. The tribes are uncertain whether prideful fools or wild brutes are the greater evil. Peasants whisper that Selvyn Monterrey, Lord of the Bastion, would do just about anything to protect the king's old dream. And that others near him show too little dedication where he shows too much of it. But they also claim that there's a dragon in the north, and that the Witch herself, the Doom of Southgard, leads the incoming warband. In other words: Nonsense, spread by those who drink too much, and do too little.
Or maybe not? You're about to learn the truth for yourself. Maybe you see yourself as the shield of civilisation, arriving to make a stance against the chaos of war that, thus far, left these parts of the land untouched. Maybe as a force of good, standing against the tides of evil where noone quite expected it to show. Perhaps, you're just in it for the countless coins that the lord offers to anyone willing to fight for him. Who knows, you'll tell me. Either way, your path will lead you to the Bastion and right into a mess of faith, politics and war.
That, at least, is the plan. This is the interest check for a play-by-post Pathfinder campaign I'd like to run. It's been a while - figured it'd be a good moment to change that. Note that details might vary, depending on what you wish to bring to the table. Neither home-brewed nor third-party content will be allowed; other than that, we can talk about most things. Everything in the Core books is fair game; expect my approval for most other things, too, I'm open for cool concepts if they fit in well. One important restriction: Unless the entire group wishes to play a bunch of backstabbing bastards, evil characters are off-limits. This is not because this is designed as a typical 'good vs. evil'-campaign - in fact, other themes will likely be more prevalent, depending on the players' choices. I am simply a firm believer that evil characters are not a good fit for most groups.
I'm aiming for one post per week, at least - long enough for others to work with, whatever that means at any given moment. Some familiarity with the Pathfinder rules is preferred; I'm happy to answer questions, of course, and help out where it's needed. More details on the character creation will be posted if there's enough interest.
Any questions, comments, remarks? Let me know, I'll try to answer them and fill the gaps.
