Adain sat out the register near closing time, sipping a cup of iced coffee. The shop had a slow today, a few regulars in and out all day. Adain was wore out and it was the middle of the week. Its the long weeks like this that kill him. The days are slow when summer hits full swing. Except for those days that he has live music, then it seems he can't work fast enough. But this was his dream and he didn't mind the work it takes to keep up sometimes. Other days he would like to get off and go out but no one ever shows an interest in him, maybe the tattoos, or the piercings, or the fact he was neko. And online dating was not the way to go at all. He didn't care a bit he made it by himself most nights.
After a few of the patrons left, and only one or two stragglers were still around he joked, "Last call guys." They laughed and sat still bullshitting. Adain made his way to the door sweeping out a bit of dirt.
Akira sighed, walking the street. She had her wallet in her hand and she was looking for coffee. She really needed a pick me up because she was going to have to pull an all nighter. She looked around, her face lighting up as she spotted a small coffee shop. She walked towards it, opening the door. "Excuse me, are you still open?" She asked, looking at the owner.
Adain didn't hear the door open and kept sweeping until he heard a female voice. He looked up, his tried face smiling at the newcomer and her beautiful green eyes. "I will be open for a good while if your needing a cup." He laughed softly and looked at the stragglers, "Plus these too will stay a while longer so your fine." He put the broom back where he got it from, motioning Akira to come on in as he went behind the counter.
Akira smiled, going to the counter. He was handsome with long shaggy brown hair. She smiled. "One large cup." She said, looking at him. "I have to pull an all nighter to finish my chapter for my book." She said, looking at him. She felt her ears twitch under her beanie and she hesitantly adjusted her hat.
Adain gave her another smile, grabbing a large cup, "And how do you like your coffee?" As he waited he took a sip of his and admired her beautiful, glad he had a great poker face.
Akira smiled and took her coffee, taking a sip. She smiled, purring ever so slightly. "It's good." She said, content with her coffee. "You did good. My thanks goes to you." She said.
He smiled, always liking a compliment on his coffee. "Would you like a bite to eat on the house?" He hands her a menu. About that time the two stragglers start out the door, "Turn off the neon for me guys?" Adain asked. They did as he asked, said thanks for the drinks and walked out to be back the next afternoon. But all Adain could think of is what to say to the beauty in front of him.
Akira smiled, looking at the menu. "Sure. Can I have the coffee cake?" She asked, sliding the menu back to him. She smiled, her ears twitching under her hat and she adjusted it again, trying to keep her nekoness a secret.
Adain moved towards the display case getting a slice of coffee cake and a slice of red velvet. He set the plates down and slid the girl hers. Adain looked for a chair finding one, he pulled it up to sit and talk.
Akira smiled, sitting down on her tail. She almost hissed, but bit her lip instead, taking a bite of her coffee cake. She smiled. "It's good." She said, her ears and tail twitching.
Adain looked at the girl her hat twitching. "Is there something in your hat?" he asked taking his apron off hanging it over the register. Adain slid his hair back his ears up, while he pulled his hair into a ponytail
Akira sighed. "Yeah." she said, taking off her hat. Her ears rolled out, twitching again. "I normally hide them because people ask tons of questions as soon as they see them."
Adain nodded sipping on his drink, "Sometimes its a matter of how hard you look." he noted. He took another bite of cake, "So is the cake food, I make it fresh."
"It can be," He ate some more cake, "but its terribly lonely some nights." He shrugged and sighed. "But I wake up every morning to my sweat and blood. Its well worth it."
Akira smiled. "Well, normally I would keep it a secret, but seeing as you are the first neko I have seen in years, I'll make an exception." She said, taking another bite and finishing it off. "It's about a halfbreed, or a girl mixed with a cat that ends up in secret agent training and the rest is yet to be written.
