But I don't want to portray his disapproval in a way that makes it feel like tag teaming from my characters, if that makes sense.

I was curious, too. I want to see what Rio says/does first, but I imagine Aiden is going to just real talk her like "would your opinion change if they were real bullets?" and then some type of response based off how she responded. We could collab it if you want, since it might have a few faster dialogue responses.

Luka would definitely feel differently if they were real bullets, but they aren't and she is absolutely awful at playing pretend. Her mind is very concrete.

Yeah and if that's how it's gonna be, no lie, Aiden is just gonna outright guilt her down. Not super bad, but he's definitely going to be along the lines of "you're treating the training like a game, and that's not going to look good on you as the youngest one here for a first impression"

Which would be extremely tame compared to what Cole would pop off with. He'd be more akin to "you can go right back to EAT if you're not gonna work in a team, otherwise you'll get yourself or worse someone else killed. How can anyone here have faith in you if you don't give them a reason to trust you have their back?"

Alrighty guys! I have the first proposal for the first of our two person pairings that will be utilized on our first mission. I can say that I’m not 100% happy with this draft, but I wanted to get one up to start some discussion, hopefully.

Cole with Callah + Sion with Noelle
Luka with Aiden and Rio + Vox with Lucien

I do not think Edgar, Adelle, Dai, and Yuri would work the best together lmao. Edgar and Adelle already clash and I feel like with their respective personalities, Dai would only make things worse. I don't think Yuri would be too much of a problem although I feel like she would side with Dai in arguments and something tells me Edgar, Adelle, and Dai would bicker a lot.

I'm actually quite fine with both of my pairings. Cole and Sion seemed pretty like minded, so I imagine they would make a good pair. Might be some slight conflicts of philosophy, but they definitely seem like the "try hard duo" of the four. And Aiden was already friendly with Lucien and lowkey digging Vox, so unless Luka and Rio have some type of specific issue with that, I don't see any conflicts from my side specifically.

If these were long term pairings, I might suggest Collah with Yuan since he might be able to impart some of his calm mind training to help with the Madness, but I do like Collah/Sielle since they're more well rounded in terms of offense/defense.

As I think I mentioned earlier, I think Luidrio is well rounded enough to fit with anyone except maybe Dai. Putting the youngest/most immature Meister with arguably the worst influence and most aggressive one might be a bad decision. Perhaps even worse than pairing him with Collah--I imagine Cole and Dai would be less of a team and more of two independent agents working on the same mission.

I can see this pretty hardcore, actually. I would imagine the best pairing for Yudai would be Mivares. I don't think anyone is gonna anchor Tavares or Dai well, so you might as well put him with a partner that he will compete with. Iron sharpens Iron, after all.

Milo works really well for grounding the madness of the twins, too, though.

Another option would be Yudai with Mivares. Edelle with Collah and then Yuan and the twins with Sielle.

So this brings up the question, what happens if you put that parasitic wavelength in the proximity of Madness? Is Sion at some massive risk if he accidently gets exposed? I thought his wavelength was super unique, like on par with a Grigori Soul. So, isn't that just a giant mystery?

Edelle with Collah could work, too. We've already head cannoned that Adelle and Cole would likely get along, so that at least means there's stability in 75% of the team. I actually don't imagine Edgar and Cole would be super problematic as well and it might encourage Edgar to use Adelle's ranged capabilities more to match up Cole. Clearly there's a difference between a sniper rifle and a slingshot, but it's a whole world different than a club.

I can definitely see your conflict here, though. Your goals here seem to be: try and mitigate the Madness, match Dai (and to a lesser extent Tavares) with someone that isn't a toxic duo, pair someone with a 100% ranged set, and ideally make sure Luka has a good role model. It seems you're in a real damned if ya do, damned if ya don't situation.

How about pairing Sielle with Yudai after an IC event letting them duel and hopefully instead of murdering each other, they gain some mutual respect, pairing Edelle with Collah for the aforementioned reasons, then keeping the Yu-twins (I legit could not come up with a pairing name that didn't sound god-awful; I feel like you encountered this issue, too) with Mivares and Luidrio with Voxcien. If you wanted the teams relatively well-rounded, this might work out fairly well if Sion and Dai can work out their beef enough to function as a team and might be a fun IC thing we planted the seeds for in the intro.

Just pitching ideas (and lowkey sneaking in partnership dubs)

Addressing some things…

I do not think Sion would be at massive risk if he were around the twins given his wavelength. However, I think that if he were to wield one of the twins - particularly Grace - then he would be.

On another note, these pairings of teams are not meant to be permanent. I am hoping that, in due time and if people stick around for long enough, everyone will get to work with everyone else on some level or another. These pairings are just meant to be initial teams that are sent out on little missions that will plant the seeds of the situation surrounding the missing death scythes. I really like trying to get to the meat of the plot reasonably early on to help maintain interest which is why I’m trying to get to this stuff first. After that, I do think we might be able to work in a chance for some duels to resolve tensions that happened, but I as a GM also need to consider what other characters are going to do during that time because a duel can take a while unless collabed entirely and that requires matching up everyone’s time schedules which already sounds difficult. What I don’t want is to have two pairs dueling and then leave the other 8 characters with nothing to do but watch.

That being said, I think initial pairings will be:

Yuan/Grace/Erica + Sion/Noelle
Dai/Yuri + Tavares/Milo
Edgar/Adelle + Cole/Callah
Luka/Aiden/Rio + Vox/Lucien

I’m still open to comments on this stuff, obviously. Nothing’s set in stone until we get to it.

I love the shit out of this discussion but boy if I didn't think I was having a stroke before I realized you were making ship names. I need sleep.

And as for my two cents, I do want to duo up my ol' buddy ol' pal Vox with Sion, but I always figured that Sion and Dai were going to hit it off pretty good rivalry style if they just hit each other in the face first. Only issue being that Nobody Special has both characters in one pairing, but maybe he/she/they wouldn't even mind that.

Milo can go well with just about anyone. He's a glutton for punishment (as in a magnet attracting flack) but he takes it all in stride, and heals alllllll

To be frank with you, though I clearly lost track of his original thing where others' wavelengths had lessened effect on him and have so far been running with the idea that they automatically affect him and quite a lot (hope that's fine Lady Warlock ?), I haven't even considered this. His soul is already a bad place, though it isn't madness. My headcanon is that it takes others' wavelengths and temporarily boosts its wavelength (whether detrimental or beneficial) with that one. So uh, yeah, idk. Depends on the madness? For a split second when they touch, he'd be plunged into the worst it could possibly get, then when the touch is broken he'd slowly recede back into himself, probably? But something like that would definitely fuck him up for a good while. Does the madness boost power? Because that could be a cool happening some time before he learns to control his wavelength. Otherwise it's just bad news all around. Imagine going Asura and smashing a massive madness wavelength into everyone in the local tri-state area and then just passing tf out.

Just throwing this idea out, we could eventually totally see about doing some non mission scenes where Yudai and Sielle get their duel, Collah and maybe Yuidrio go to a firing range, Lucien gets to showcase his cooking somewhere, just mini scenes like that where multiple characters get to interact in their off time.

Kinda like the filler/character building episodes in any anime! Only thing missing is the unnecessary beach scene.

I've got ideas towards Tavares' general wavelength that I could pitch, but since he doesn't have any actual experience in properly using it- those suggestions would just be suggestions. Not much I can actually use just yet till he's a bit more familiar with his capabilities. Aside from that I don't think i have any objections with any mentioned pairings. I sort of lean a bit more towards Yuan & Twins, simply cuz of the dynamics there. At the same time, have no objections against YuDai either. I can see some pretty entertaining interactions with YuDai given Tavares isn't as rowdy as he was before

I am currently working NOC shift again tonight, but I shouldn’t sleep all day afterwards and will be free during my more normal time to be around if that works for anyone or if anyone needs anything from me.
