@SeratheUnicorn You have to cast the spell before the objects can gain the senses, right? You can't just cast the spell and have the object tell you stuff that happen a millennia ago right?
 
@Harmonic Chaos I was thinking more that the more powerful the witch or wizard who casts the spell, the longer it lasts, and the longer the objects can remember, I feel like if the object was very chatty and you were spying on something it might be like "Hi! Someone asked me to spy on you!" Which defeats the point of spying.


Say the spell I'd quite weak, you might enchant the, say, teapot. and it might say, "A boy with black hair walked past a minute ago." Whereas a more powerful spell might say "A boy with black hair has been walking past every five minutes for the  last two hours. He has blue eyes, and always seems to be lost in thought."

Oh I was hoping the spell worked like this: 1) You enchant an object 2) You leave it to spy on something 3) You go back to it and ask it what it has seen.
 
@SeratheUnicorn Can you use it on plants, animals and/or humans? Can the object lie to the caster? Can the type of object make it more or less likely to lie based on prejudices? (Let's say, a Weasely enchanted a snake to spy on a Malfoy.)
 
It can't be used in animals or planets ORBIT humans, as they are already alive. It can only work on inanimate objects, and while they wouldn't lie, they could just avoid the question

Okay, so there incable of lying and prejudice dose have an effect on the object.


You could make an exception for plants since they don't have sentience (sans some magical ones like maybe mandrakes) and speeking of sentience, would the spell work on ghosts (some magic dose work on ghosts, Myrtle said the ministry had to stop her from haunting that girl who bullied her before the Basilisk killed her) and/or magical portraits since they aren't living? (Wait, dose this spell's perment variant create magical portraits?). Personally I would make the spell work on anything not sentient but the choice is yours. 


Oh and there are magical photos and I don't think they are sentient. Wait, I believe in one of Harry's and Lockheart's photos Harry was squirming away from him (well I am pretty sure something like that happend somewhere in books) so magical photos seem to capture the current mindset of the people in it so you could possibly ask questions to learn more about what happened during the photo (not unreleted secrets of cource). An occlumence would likely be able to block out the photo's mental intrusions.


Oh and... Do we have a Headmaster or Headmistress @wichtlein / @Veelen ?
 
@SeratheUnicorn Huzzar! You liked the post! The somewhat irational part of me that is excessively afraid of offending people  was starting to fear that I would come off as too pushy. Now on to other matters, I recomend reading Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. It's a fanfic and you should read it. Chapter 48  inspired my curiosity with your spell.


Now am I correct in assuming that by liking my post you agree with my decsions? There's the photo thing and the spell working on plants thing (I've become more dubious on the plants working thing since they adapt and evolve and are comparable to a human fetus before they develop a brain). Also there is the question I asked: Dose this spell's permanent variant create magical portraits? (It'll would of likely got buried and forgoten underneath the other posts if I didn't bring it up again.) 


Oh, and can my 'Auror' wannbe Drumstang Student (I see him as a bit of a paladin without any religous conations) be friends with Sylvia Forresis? I know you said that   "[she] didn't really have any friends" so you could make it a recent devlopment, change your CS or reject me. Your choice, I won't be offened if you chose the latter.

Anyways, may I ask what has happened to the other cannon teachers? You know, Professor Bins (I always thought they would keep him forever) Hagrid, Slughorn, Sinestra, Trewnery, Sprout/Nevil and everyone else. (Some are probably more obvious then others and I am mainly curious about Bins and Hagrid.)

I want to roll with the fact McGonagall let Hagrid rejoin the student body in the year after the war so he went on to do better things with his Hogwarts Graduation, Mainly looking after Dragons. As for Bins he passed through to the other side as he no longer had business to do in this world after the war. As for the Nevile hes still not a teacher yet, he's doing his training. The rest have retired, theyve seen enough **** go down ^^ This is probably not cannon what so ever BUT we wanted a fresh set of teachers. If youd like to replace or bring back somebody bring it up with my lovely @wichtlein As she was in charge of the teachers :3 Hope that answers all your craving questions
