Ally Cantra

Alison Cantra, Evening Shift Barista and Assistant Baker

Age: 22
Date of Birth: October 16th, XXXX
Sexuality: Bisexual
Height: 5'7 (170 cm)
Weight: 173 lbs
Build: Ally is a little bit chubby. She's strong and healthy from working on her feet, but snagging the occasional snack at the Sundoe Cafe where she works has lent her a softness that she doesn't mind.
Hair: Working in food, Ally's plain mousy brown hair is often thrown up in a messy bun, a braid, or left to hang down to her shoulders if she's out and about.
Eyes: Light Brown

Appearance: By some standards, Alison could be considered somewhat plain. However, she fits right in as a small town barista, often greeting customers coming into the cafe in the evening with a genuine if tired smile. Occasionally the faint bags under her eyes are partially obscured by an old paid of glasses perched crookedly on the end of her nose. Though Ally's features are soft and pleasant, her eyes are quick and have a shrewd air. She has a sense of wisdom and understanding that landed her the job she has now and gained her the reputation for often being able to hand you just the right warm drink to nurse. She often wears simple and comfortable clothes. Blue jeans, practical boots and a comfortable shirt or blouse, sometimes with a flannel thrown around her shoulders or tied at her waist when it gets cool. More often than not, her clothes are ever so lightly dusted with a bit of flour.

Personality: When she's on the clock, Ally can be bright and pleasant. Friendly and outgoing, her words are laced with a tone unmistakable to anybody in customer service, ever so slightly too happy and energetic to be genuine. And yet, it's not entirely faked. Ally loves her job and loves being able to serve drinks and baked goods in the cozy environment of the cafe. She especially loves when she has the time to sit behind the counter and people watch, sometimes even going so far as to sketch the patrons of the cafe in the notebook she has even if she'd been told off more than once for not asking permissions before doing so. She'll often make pleasant conversation while she works, it helps the time pass and she likes to get a sense for the people who come in, learn their stories. And sometimes the people coming into the cafe in the evenings are those looking for quiet company, she's found they might relish the chance to talk.

Outside of work, Alison is often a bit more quiet. She's still relatively outgoing, but without the structure of work to push her into those conversations, she's happy to be lower energy and even reserved. She loves to draw and take photographs of the town, and spends a chunk of her time off wandering and finding interesting places to take photos or get references for her drawings. One of her favourite muses is the walk to the lighthouse nearby.

Likes: Ally's favourite flowers are sunflowers. She loves music, most often ending up listening to soft indie music or lofi, but likes a bit of everything. She loves coffee, art, and walking the coast.

Dislikes: Ally hates pretension and people who think they're better than others, especially the way that the often richer members of the community in the town treat her at the cafe. She doesn't like cruelty in general and will often go out of her way to make sure people around her, especially in the cafe, feel safe and comfortable no matter who they are or what their background. She especially dislikes anybody hitting on her at work.

Background: Alison Cantra didn't grow up in Candle Cape, in fact she spent the better part of her early life living in a city elsewhere in the state and absolutely loved it. As a kid she thrived in that high energy environment, happy and comfortable in her school and well suited to her neighbourhood. However, after the death of her mother, when she was 10, money began to dwindle. Her dad alone couldn't keep up with the cost of living in the city on a teacher's salary and after a few years that pressure led him to seek out a new place to live. As fortune had it, Candle Cape had a vacancy for the middle school history teacher, and so that summer, Alison and her father moved, and in autumn, she started up high school in the small town.

It took her a while to adjust to it there, the quiet seclusion of the town almost shocking after spending her whole life in the hustle and bustle of the city. And yet she soon began to see the charm of the place, her eye able to appreciate the sharp relief of the rocky coastline and the characteristic smell of pacific seafoam. For a girl who had lived so close to the sea but never been to it herself, she began to adore walking along the coast. While she may have struggled to fit into her new school, she tempered her loneliness by spending her free time exploring her new home, trying to get a sense for the town. Her explorations bore fruit, and when her art class began to focus on landscape photography, she felt inspiration spark. Her interactions with the teacher only further coaxed her interest in photography and in drawing, igniting a lifelong passion.

In her senior year, Ally found herself a job in a local cafe. Open late into the night, it offered a perfect job for a high school student, especially one who skewed towards being a night owl like Ally. The manager was even kind enough to look the other way when she did her homework or drew at the counter. Ally has worked there since, sticking around after graduation and renting an apartment nearby. Her father lives on the other side of town, and they see each other for dinner sometimes, but they've grown somewhat apart since she moved into her own place. Over the next few years, she carved out a place for herself in the small town, becoming a familiar face to many of the regulars at the cafe. She even convinced one of the owners, who baked the confections and bread they served at the cafe, to take her on as an assistant. And so, she'll often take time in the evenings to prep things for the next days bake, or even make some pastries to sell that night if she's feeling creative. The couple who own the cafe have come to trust her and they've since given her a key to the place and significant freedom in what she does.

Aspirations: Ally hopes to save enough money that she can eventually attend an art program at the university in the nearby port city and has been putting together a portfolio of her work. And though she once felt like a stranger in the town, she's come to feel that it's home, and isn't ready leave. The nearby city offers her a pleasant compromise, being near enough to commute to the school without giving up the life she's built.

nicknames

Seb or Bastian

age

gender

Male

sexuality

Heterosexual

occupation

Cook at CandleLight restaurant (the very same one his parents own).

appearance

Sebastian is 5'10" with bright blue eyes. He has medium length brown hair that's often unkempt. Seb has an athletic build without being overly muscular. He classifies himself as fit and trim, but not a WWE fighter. Sebastian has light freckles across his nose and cheeks that become more pronounced once he's tanned. Seb has quite a symmetrical face with high cheekbones and a defined jawline.

trait

trait

trait
personality

Sebastian can make his presence known in a room, often laughing loudest or engaging in conversations with anyone that'll lend him an ear. He isn't one to backdown from a challenge or a fight even if the odds are not in his favour. His determination outshines most other traits. Seb has a way with words and can masterfully manipulate most situations. Uncomfortable scenarios don't exist for him, at least not that he'd let anyone see it. Vulnerability is something he loathes, unless it's not him opening up. He loves to talk, lend a hand or a shoulder to cry on. Sebastian's speech may be fluffy, but he sticks close to his friends. Most believe him to be like a puddle opposed to an ocean, but there is a lot more under the surface of this blue eyed boy; once someone steps inside they find themselves sinking deeper until they realize most of what they see is an illusion.

Sebastian can put on a good show and seem as though he is the essence of a refined gentleman. Most say he cleans up nicely, but underneath his dapper appearance is a youthful, adventurous, and loving heart. He shies from serious conversations, always adding a joke or some other sort of deflection. Despite his inadequate ability to explain himself or communicate his feelings, he is creative about figuring out ways to tell others how he feels - sometimes it comes across in negative ways. Seb has shared memes or videos to share his emotions, though not everyone picks up on the fact he is trying to express himself (sometimes he doesn't even realize it). Sebastian holds how he feels in, taking all of those negative emotions and bottling them up. He is an expert in hiding truth in every "just kidding."

Though not one to allow anger to best him, it is an emotion simmering just below the surface. When the glass that has held it in breaks, Sebastian becomes one thing he's come to hate: his older brother. The rage that is visible comes out in various ways. Sometimes he folds into himself, breaking off communication from everyone around him. Sometimes it's shown verbally by berating those he comes into contact with. Sometimes it's physical, meaning if someone insults him, he may strike first and regret later.

Sebastian is not always truthful and a darker shade may overshadow his heart. Sometimes his loyalty is tested and he chooses himself.

likes

Cooking. Food and parties. Crowds and conversations. He loves sweets, fast cars, coffee and pranks. Seb enjoys nightlife, something about the atmosphere makes him feel alive, or maybe it's because shadows are easier to hide in. He also enjoys sports and most other outdoor activities.

dislikes

Quite places like libraries. Condescending people. Needles, but he doesn't mind hospitals as long as he doesn't see a needle. Dinners from a box.

Not everything happens for a reason. Sometimes life just sucks.

family

Sebastian isn't close to his family. His parents spend most of their time traveling, whether just for fun or for the company. They own a chain of fine dining establishments and insist on being onsite for regular check-ups, which Sebastian has learned means they was "alone" time. However, new restaurants are being opened or menus are being modified to reflect corporate wide updates (which they like to oversee). Seb stopped listening to their "shop talk" ages ago. His parents are still happily married, though they seem far happier pretending they don't have children.

Sebastian also has an older brother who moved out-of-state a long time ago. Sebastian used to be close to his brother, Sam, often copying everything he did. Sam was the reason he got into sports, the reason he shook off his "quietness" as a middle schooler, and the only constant in his life. However, a year after Sam moved, he had some trouble with the law and was arrested and thrown into prison. Seb doesn't talk about it, neither do his parents. Sam being in prison is one of the bigger secrets the Mors family keeps from the public.

background

Sebastian was a quiet kid growing up, until his middle school years where his growth spurt also shifted his perspective. Sam taught him some basic offensive and defensive tactics, which helped him no longer be "easy to beat Mors." Once the scrawny boy bulked up, his bullies couldn't tussle with him without walking home with their own black eyes. Once Sebastian blossomed, his desire for connections, power, and popularity seemed unquenchable. When he reached high school everyone knew him. He was the kid who was good a sports, sometimes the class clown, but always the kid that let everything roll off him. All his relationships were short and after his brother was arrested during his senior year, Sebastian spiraled. Sports held no interest. Friends let him drift. It wasn't long before the facade of Sebastian Mors being perfect returned. However, no one else saw the chink in his armour and, if they did, they didn't say much about it.

Once Sebastian pulled himself together he graduated high school. After graduation, his parents gave him an ultimatum: college or work. Immediately he began working in the kitchen at his parent's restaurant (a gig he got because of them). Not many jobs appealed to him, but he figured since he liked food and he was pretty good in the kitchen he might as well use his connections to get himself a job he didn't detest. Thus, Sebastian began working his way up in the restaurant until he had a chance to apply for a cook position. His goal is sous chef, but he knows he's not quite ready for that (and the position is full).

Age: 23
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 139lbs
Sexuality: Pansexual
Date of birth: September 27, XXXX
Hair color: Black
Eye color: Caramel
Hair style: Her hair is mostly always done up in braids, cornrow braids, and/or dreads (it was a faze, she might go back to them eventually though). She only leaves her hair natural once a year to see how long she has it, and if she needs to cut some off.
Physique: She has a slim hourglass figure, with slightly toned legs due to all the walking and hiking she does in her spare time.
Attire: She is ALWAYS wearing black. She loves leather, faux-leather, and cotton fabrics. Her closet is all just shades of black. No other color exists in her collection.

IMG_9958.jpg

Positive traits:
She is completely at peace with who she is, is as outgoing as she is introverted, and loves animals. She is a free spirit that hates being tied down by responsibilities not of her choosing. She moves around in social circles as fluid as air and as ever lasting as stone, never being in a place for two long but always leaving an impression of her presence felt for hours or even days after she went by. She is confident, intelligent, and a pro at living life to the fullest.

Negative traits:
Due to her self-confidence, she may come of as snobbish, and arrogant to some. She has no sympathy for those she finds stupid and/or ignorant. She does not really like comfrontation so she will usually just walk away from any situations, but if you get in her face or on her nerves (which have a very long fuse), prepare to be back handed (speculatively and literally) if it comes down to it.

Background:
She was born and raised in NYC, New York to an immigrant mother (from Kenya) and an American father. Her father was an entrepreneur (which mostly dealt in real estate), while her mother worked hard as an immigration/civic lawyer for the city. She grew up in Nolita, surrounded by the upper class members of society, attending social functions, going to Yacht parties, traveling all over the world on her parents or her whims, having people on her beck and call 24/7 and having everything a girl could ever need. She was deeply lonely though. All relationships where superficial, there for her parents names and/or money, servants trying to get on her good side for her to put in a good word with her mom and dad, and her parents always away at work. She grew up in her own little bubble, going to private school and doing everything in her power to fit in, while at home she was the nerdy goofball she was always on the inside. She grew up just like this, only being herself when alone, until she went to university at 15 (being a child prodigy with opportunities gave her many openings in life), and off to Harvard for a bachelors in Biology, and then off to Harvard Medical. She finished all in record time, having finished eight years of school by the age of 21 .hat was when her life took a turn. When she was off in Papua New Guinea with Doctors without Boarders, she got news that her parents had died in a shooting at the local branch of the bank her family owned. She immediately flew back to the states and organized her families affairs while doing a bit of introspection. Her parents had left everything to her, including ownership of all the businesses, but she was just 21. She didn't know what to do with all this new-found responsibilities and still grieving for her parents, gave partial administrative control to her aunt (the only family member she was ever close to). Now she had traveled the world as she pleased, taking a year long sabbatical, and finding herself. On this journey to better herself, she found who she truly was and saw how fortunate she truly was in life. She left behind the woe-is-me attitude of when she was young, embraced her cooky, weird, eccentric and chaotic personality and went along for the ride that was life while giving back to the less fortunate. She went back to Doctors without Boarders, and has just returned from another stint in Nigeria and decided to move to Candle Light, Oregon a place she had only been too in passing, to maybe have a sleepy few months before going back out with the Doctors. (Or so was the plan). She bought a plot of land and built a cosy cottage for herself in the middle of the plot, about thirty minutes away from town.

Lennox Marshall

Age:
20

Gender: Male (cis); he/him

Sexuality: Bisexual and biromantic; slight preference for guys

Personality: Lennox could perhaps be first and foremost described as โ€œimpulsiveโ€ and โ€œchaoticโ€. For whatever reason, he does not often think very much prior to jumping ahead and doing or saying something- he just does it or says it. This can get him into bad situations, where he either says a random thought that came to mind that comes off rude, or he punches someone who annoys him.

Lennox is pretty friendly and extroverted, willing to introduce himself to anyone and talk to them. When talking with people, he is often genuinely interested in what they have to say and likes to get to know more about them- despite his impulsivity, heโ€™s very much an active listener.

He likes to crack a lot of jokes, even if they donโ€™t make any sense. He tends to be hyper and enthusiastic, always excitable and hyped and looking at the positive side of things.

Despite his friendliness and positivity, Lennox does have anger issues. When he gets angry- which is relatively often- he isnโ€™t just mad, he is furious. This doesnโ€™t make him a bad person, he canโ€™t control it. He tries his best not to take it out on others, but sometimes he messes up, especially when he perceives someone as attacking him or being rude (even if they arenโ€™t intending to be that way at all). This may come and go in episodes- some periods of time, he is more easily angered than other times.

Lennox also has hypersensitivity to, among other things, bright light, a lot of talking at once, and loud music, which is why he isnโ€™t a party person (which tends to surprise some people). When he gets overwhelmed by his senses, he feels the need to go to a dark place and hide for a bit, and may even start to cry (completely involuntarily). Some have suggested he might have autism or any sensory processing disorder, but heโ€™s never been professionally diagnosed.

Appearance:

artbreeder1.jpg
(I used Artbreeder to get a faceclaim because I feel very uncomfortable using other real peopleโ€™s faces. Absolutely no shade on anyone else, it just makes me personally feel weird when I do it! I'm sorry it's not very aesthetic. Lmk if this is strongly not desired for whatever reason; I can just try to describe his appearance lol)

Backstory:
  • Grew up in Candle Cape
  • Father is divorced from the family; mother raised him with his step-dad
  • Two little sisters
  • Has a dog (gray pit bull) named Katie who he loves very much
Interests and skills:
  • Dogs. Very much a dog-person (cats are okay too)
  • Painting (helps him relax)
  • Zoology
  • Video games

Personality
Witty || Strong || Callous || Aloof

Cal has always been gifted, and cursed, with a quick wit. He is able to turn just about anything into a joke and tends to turn everything into one regardless of the subject matter or sensitivity around the topic, the world is just easier to deal with when viewed through the lens of humor. There are few things Cal enjoys more then a good laugh and he appreciates people with their own senses of humor, especially if it veers into the more twisted kind. Naturally quick, Cal is able to connect dots and figure out problems faster then most, when he bothers to try as he learned from a young age that just because he can know something, it doesn't mean he wants to know it and, often, is better off not knowing it. This isn't to be confused in that he is afraid or is unwilling to face the future because Cal is a strong person, naturally resilient to outside pressure. Even at his worst, his body will keep moving, doing the routines he has set up, pushing on because part of him just won't let him fall into despair, won't let him give up and call it quits even if it has to warp his mentality to do it. If it has to feed on his spite of another to get up, if it has to shame his pride to prod him into moving, if it has to pull at his guilt to get what needs doing done. This natural inner strength isn't always good as it gives him a false sense of security. No matter what happens, he will pick himself up, he doesn't need other people nor their help. He can handle the overtime, sure it has been over thirty hours, but he is almost finished with his work and he can handle a bit more. Sure he hasn't been outside in.. a long time, but its okay, he has what he needs. This strength can easily lead to stagnation in his life where he is so used to 'holding' that he refuses to 'move'.

This belief that he will always be okay, regardless of what happens, has made Cal a bit callous. He will often say or do things without a thought spared for how it may make others around him feel, how it may effect them. In fact, he will even poke and prod people for his own amusement or to make them leave if they try to bridge the gap between them. He can be incredibly inconsiderate of the needs or wants of others especially if he views it as a weakness as, after all, if he can hold himself up then they should be able to. If he pokes and prods someone enough that they leave, well, no matter, they would have left sooner or later anyways then. Almost as if his callous nature is born from a need to push people way, to prove that its better he push them so they leave now rather then later before he actually relies on them and it becomes more painful. He has tried that once, relying on someone, it did not end well, so no reason to do that again. There are times, however, when he will say something and then regret it, wish he can pull the words back in, but what is said cannot be unsaid, words cannot be unspoken and there is no use trying to run from them. This, almost self-imposed, exile has made Cal very aloof. He can smile, joke, talk to someone, but there will always be a sense of 'distance'. As if Cal has never truly 'committed' to what they are doing, as if only part of him is there while the rest is held in reserve or elsewhere. He rarely loses his temper or shows much out of sarcastic wit and the occasional small smile as if he just thought of a joke only he would find funny. As he has gotten older, it has gotten worse to the point he would rarely leave his apartment and do most of his communications online. This distance he has cultivated with the world and everyone he meets, both physically and emotionally, this exile of his, is something he has been trying to work on since he moved to Cape Town with.. little success. But Cal has decided to 'fix' it. Fix that part of him. Fix himself, and he is anything if not determined. Once Cal has decided something, he throws himself at it to get it done even if it seems impossible or would demand more of himself then he could safely give.

Background

Cal lived a fairly simple life as he was raised by his grandparents, his parents died in a car accident when he was young, too young to remember them. He didn't have a notable youth, he dated, he got dumped, he was an average student and kid, he was not very athletic nor was interested in devoting himself to studies or clubs. He had a few 'friends', friends he would talk to in school, group up with for projects, but never speak to outside of school or the occasional text. Cal spent most of his youth, and life, in front of a computer screen making flash games and mods as he taught himself how to program, to create worlds and sense out of code. His grand father passed away in his freshman year of college and his grandmother soon after which left him rather alone in the world as he drove himself deeper into his computer screen where the world made sense, was orderly and nothing mattered outside of the next line of code. After college, he got a job as part of a small indie studio, Angry Goat, as a 'code monkey'. It was here he met his first, and only, friend. Kaylee, a fellow code monkey. Kaylee was odd, she never shut up no matter what jokes he made at her expense, she just kept butting in. When they worked from home, she'd keep IMing him even if he didn't respond and, over the years, she wore him down. Shy with everyone else, but for some reason, she was always bold and headstrong with him. Not much of a looker and, if Cal were being honest, people would walk right by her without noticing she existed and she'd never expect them to as she was a dedicated introvert and, much like Cal, willing to watch the world move past them from behind their computers.. but unlike Cal, Kaylee wanted more. She didn't like who she was, she wanted more out of life, she wanted love, acceptance, a purpose... Cal admired her drive even if he didn't really understand it, but he did what he could to help in his own awkward, emotionally stilted way, listened when she ranted and raved, poked her when she was depressed as he didn't understand how to do anything else.

Cal was desperately and utterly in love with Kaylee, but it didn't really matter as they 'played for the same team'. But it was fine, they were friends and that was more then Cal had ever had so... it was good enough, at least, that is what he decided to believe. Only a few months ago, she told him she was seeing someone, a nameless woman that made her happy, that she was finally feeling like she was moving on and although part of Cal was happy for her, because she was happy, part of him resented her wanting to be the one that made her happy, be the one that fulfilled what he could never do... So he did what he always did and distanced himself and didn't hear from her for a few weeks and when he saw her number, he'd always think of something else to do, something else that would pull him away from Kaylee and the truth he wanted to avoid. When he saw the notice for text and IMs, he didn't open them... he would later, always later. Then, almost out of the blue, he received a call from her mother, Claire. She hadn't heard from her daughter in a week and was worried, so Cal agreed to check on her and he found her... in the bathtub. She had taken her own life days before and had been there, in that bathtub, alone... just forgotten like some filth that didn't matter. A speck of dust waiting to be brushed under the rug and it didn't matter to the world that she was gone, it kept on moving even as he was stuck there, remembering the smell, how she looked, the feelings.. He hated her. He hated himself. He hated the unknown woman that had taken Kaylee away. He needed someone to blame, anyone, so he blamed the mystery woman. It was easier then blaming himself, easier to preserve Kaylee in his mind as his friend, as the unrequited love.

As the days slowly dragged on, Cal decided he would change, as Kaylee did. He would try to 'go out' as... Kaylee was all he had and he was terrified if that happened to him. If he died, how long until someone came to check on him? How long would he be left there, alone in the dark.. forgotten and broken? He packed up and moved to some small town in Oregon to start anew, to try and.... make 'friends'... try to move on from the nightmares that haunted him, try to be a better man.

About
PERSONALITY
Sunny is a rather angry young woman. Coming from the city and loosing her dad at a young age has made her hurt and distrusting. She's been betrayed a time too many and now has a bit of an attitude. She tends to push people away and only confides in her mother, Rose, and her cat, Milaj.

LIFE
Sunny works in her mom's apothecary shop in town. 'A little coven of green witches' is what her mom calls them. They carry all types of bit and bobs and odds and ends. Sunny's personal favorite is the massive crystal and mineral collection. Rose and Sunny Greenwood live in a tiny trailer with their two cats, Milaj and Rupert. Milaj follows Solaris almost everywhere around the trailer park, tho the rascally boy knows not to step a single paw in the street. Sunny lost her father at age ten and since then hasn't quite been the same. Since moving from the city to town, she's started to open up, but isn't quite there yet.
