Regardless of warnings the future doesn't scare me at all
There is unrest in Connections, across the dozens of worlds that float through the Ocean Between, the Other Sky. Darkness threatens the worlds again, in a surging number that has not been seen for countless years. The fragile peace between the worlds that shroud them from one another is failing, threads weaving between the worlds again as they become aware of the existence of those outside themselves.
But you don't know about that. At least, not yet. You live in a world that knows nothing of Light or Darkness, Heartless or Hearts. You've never heard of a Keyblade or their wielders, and you have no idea the dangers that are about to befall this sky and the next. No idea that the starts will soon fade like waves wash away the shore.
You're a normal person, or as normal as they come anyway. You live your life, you have your friends. Maybe you go to school, or work, or maybe you don't. This world is all you know. This world and its creature comforts: like video games. Maybe you don't play them very often, maybe they're your entire life. But one way or another, you know about them, and you're playing this one.
It's like any other MMO, really. Generic fantasy setting, character customization, loosey-goosey class system. But it's new and it's shiny and it's fun enough. And you... don't remember how you found it. But that's not really important, is it? It was probably some random link on some review site or maybe a friend lent you the disc. Wait. Does it even need a disc...?
You've dabbled with this video game, Other Sky for a few weeks now. It's fun, and even if it's not your thing you find it drifting over your thoughts now and then, always bringing you back. And then one day they announce that they're overhauling the character creation system, which would go live tomorrow. Excited as character creation was easily one of the most engaging things about it, you go to sleep that night.
And then the next morning, it's there. Or at least... you think it's the next morning. Because you're playing the new patch, aren't you? Or... is this still a dream? Now that you think about it it all feels a little more... first person than you remember. Like there's no longer a screen between you and the game as you - your character? - descend from the heavens, crashing through an ocean. And yet your character - you? - don't seem to drown. Instead there's...
Towering stained glass.
And no interface for character appearance. Which, rude. Have they stripped that entirely?
There's endless stairs before you. Weapons to choose, classes to decide. And then you - not your character but you are in the first level of Other Sky.
What will you do?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Welcome to Other Sky! A sandboxy, nostalgic (at least for me lmao) Kingdom Hearts roleplay! This is inspired nebulously by that period of real life downtime sort of after Kingdom Hearts II came out and as Days and Birth By Sleep were coming out where we had all of this world building and lore and none of the answers, and were figuring things out for ourselves. The actual roleplay itself is taking place in a sort of AU after KH2, though the sleeping worlds of Dream Drop Distance will still exist (since they've been sleeping since KH1, and because I'm selfish and want to include sleeping worlds, because DDD is my favorite one aslkdhfgk).
It's going to be AU in a few ways. One of which being, I wanna ignore Union/Ο/Dark Road. I don't dislike what it introduced to the series as the series continues to go forward, but that isn't the kind of group KH RP I want to run. I'm staring 30 in the face and so I just wanna do something like I did as a teenager, when we didn't know what was going on or how keyblades worked or who got them or why. And don't even get me started on what we knew about Nobodies (absolutely nothing ).
The other way it's going to be an AU, is I don't want Sora to be the sole main character. I want our characters to also be saviors of the realm! I do like the idea of retaining the sort of special main character factor he still had in KH1-KH2, so having him maybe even at some point show up as a mentor character might be cool? But also, you guys are more than welcome to write as canons, so if someone wants to write as Sora his story can be up to them!
So the opening premise of Other Sky that you just read is less like the overarching plot line and more the kick start to the adventure. I wanna throw the main party (or at least the main keybearers - nobodies, normies, talk to me about what you want to do. If you want to be fighting dangers out in the world while the keybearers get their bearings, we can totally have a split narrative going on. It might even be fun!) into this video game as a sort of like tutorial level for the characters. A prologue chapter if you will.
Other Sky will serve as the grounds for everyone to spontaneously get their keyblades, discover magic is real, and form an adventuring party (if they so choose! If you guys want to split up, that's up to you. Again I want this somewhat sandboxy. Flying by the seat of our pants, and all that). We won't stay here forever, but it'll be able to serve as a sort of hub world for us if we want.
You guys can play as original characters, canon characters, or limited cross over characters (limited to Disney, Final Fantasy, and The World Ends With You). Not everyone has to start in Other Sky, but those that do start in Other Sky have to come from worlds that could have video games. Twilight Town, Traverse Town, The World That Never Was, Radiant Garden, Destiny Islands, certain Disney worlds like San Fransokyo. Your character has to know video games exist and have played them before to be thrown into Other Sky.
You can also be from an original world that you create, if you'd like. Just talk about it to me so I can sign off on it, and you're more than welcome to be from your own world!
The rest of the relevant non-role info, along with the roleplay's rules, will be over in the info tab!

Angels in Flight
I watch you, fast asleep.
Keybearers
( 1 / 7-10? )
Keybearers. Chosen of the Keyblade and Wielders of Light and the last line of defense against the Heartless threat that looms over the Ocean Between and the worlds that take shelter in her harbor. But not all keybearers find solace in the light. Chosen by the Keyblade or not, some turn their back to the light and hand themselves over to the darkness. Seeking power, freedom, or maybe just some fun.
Keybearers have always been rare through history, but none so much as now. Barely any survive and those that do haven't been seen in years. It's rumored they still exist, but with worlds forgetting what the Keyblade is and its important role in keep the darkness at bay, none know where those last bastions might be - if they even are still alive.
But Kingdom Hearts itself has a plan. Granting a new generation of bearers her power, its gathered those it thinks most capable of wielding the light, and are putting them through all in one place to gift them their new powers and test if they were right. Other Sky is a training ground, a safe place to gift those with potential a keyblade before setting them free through the cosmos.
Nobodies
( 1 / 5 )
Nobodies. Empty shells made from, if they're lucky, the lingering memories of those whose hearts were sundered from their body as their world fell to darkness and the heartless that its plight. Beings born without purpose, promise, or even a place to exist. Beings born truly with nothing, and of nothing.
Which is where normally, the Organization would've preyed on them. Organization XIII was a predatory group comprised of Nobodies that sought to gather more Nobodies into their ranks, so that they might use them as pawns in their world turning machinations. They did not let Nobodies be themselves, or anything other than just another member with just another number as their identity.
But Organization XIII is now gone, and any new Nobodies are born into this world without a clue as to who or what they are, or what to do next. And with the Organization, those that once numbered in their ranks are also gone.
Or are they?
Normal People
( β )
"He's just a guy! Some people have to be normal!"
-Brennan Lee Mulligan
And in these immortal words, it's true! Some people do just have to be normal. But that doesn't mean they still can't do extraordinary things. Maybe they're not a Nobody. Maybe they're not a keybearer. But they can fight, and they can take up arms, and they can defend their homes. They can wield magic if they're learned, they can brandish a blade if they try.
Or maybe, they really are just normal. It's up to you. Who will you be? How will you turn the tide as darkness threatens to capsize it all?

Daily Things
like this is that and what is what
1.
Be rootin, be tootin, by god be shootin, but most of all be kind. No bigotry no hatred no bullying. Be a cool and normal person.
2.
Lazy Literate - Adv. Literate. 300w minimum, unlimited maximum. Quality > Quantity type vibe.
3.
All genders and sexualities are a-okay. Don't worry about keeping any sort of ratio, just make whatever sort of character it is you want to make. The only limitations are the ones on how many characters in a certain role position can be made.
4.
No god modding obvi.
5.
No cross over characters, with the exception of Disney, Final Fantasy, or The World Ends With You. Canon characters are allowed from KH, FF, TWEWY, and Disney, but no others.
6.
We are going to do only anime/drawn faceclaims. No IRL, and no AI. Picrews/dress up dolls are fine, fanart of existing characters are fine (so long as you aren't actually playing that canon), and of course if you are an artist yourself, your own art is fine. And so long as you can credit/link back to the artist you found art from, that's okay too. I'd suggest maybe somewhere like Zerochan if you need a place to find references, as very very few pictures on Zerochan are lacking in a source. You are also more than allowed to use """vintage""" anime pictures (the classic 00's vampire girl, for example, who was queen of Photobucket at the time) if you feel so inclined, it doesn't have to be """modern""" anime art. Just something that fits the spirit of the games (hence the no IRL).
7.
This will be applications based, as I want to make sure everyone's style sort of gels with each other. And not even on length, because someone can be cranking out 400w against a 3kw post and it still feel balanced and even due to how it moves everything forward. But just... I guess ability? How you approach writing and moving things along, I guess.
8.
On the topic of moving things along, this will not be the kind of roleplay with a post order. Having to wait your turn to move something along can kill a roleplay faster than it takes to start it.
9.
Maybe like a limit of 7-10 players (including me)? I don't want this to be too big until we kind of get an idea for what we're doing and our vibes, just since big big groups can be hard to maintain esp if people drop and join frequently. I also haven't admined an rp in [checks watch] fifteen years? Something like that?
10.
Players can have their own NPCs in the form of family members and incidental NPCs, but if you think they're going to be a big deal, talk to me about it first. And don't just grab an unclaimed canon to use as an NPC. All unclaimed canons will be played by me when needed. If I decide to change that rule and let others play them, I will let you all know.
11.
We can have multiple characters, but I might make the cap at 3 for now as I don't want this to rapidly balloon out of control before the rp even starts. Take on what you think you can, and feel free to talk about it with both me and your fellow players if you've got any plots you wanna develop.
12.
For the most part, as far as content goes stick with the source material. If you wouldn't find it in Kingdom Hearts, don't write about it. We're not doing a gritty edgelord reboot of Kingdom Hearts that completely misses the point of the franchise alksdjbfhg. Now beyond what KH allows, I am going to include slightly more violent violence as well as swearing. You can swear as much as you like, and the keyblades can do more than just go bonk as stars dance in your eyes if you guys want to make it a little more meaningful combat wise. We don't need to be graphic with gore or anything and in fact if it's something you'd categorize as gore I'd suggest perhaps abstaining, but we can get cuts and stabbed and broken ribs and we can have magical injuries like burns and lightning damage and ice damage, that's all fine.
13.
OOC will be on site. In my experience, Discord servers don't always go so well. They can be intimidating or counterproductive when a group doesn't know each other very well, and the pressure to be available 24/7 can really get to people. Maybe at some point we can make a server, but for now it will be on site. Whether that's in an OOC thread or some group PM is up to us to decide as I'm not sure which would be more preferable on RPN (though I imagine a thread). But either way, for now, there will be no Discord server. If I have any massively important updates I'll probably just PM-ping you all, and we can have a separate OOC thread for plotting if we need it.
14.
This gonna be kind of sandbox. I think roleplays thrive the best when people are able to just wing it, and follow a scene where it takes them. We've got a locked in starting point for one of the character roles, but other than that where the group goes and if they even stay together is going to be completely up to the players.
15.
Do we want to game-ify this? I haven't done it outside of D&D rp before but assigning classes and figuring out stat blocks, and potentially even rolling might be really fun. I am also however a huuuge proponent of creative combat and figuring out solutions (blame watching too much PokΓ©mon and Yu-Gi-Oh in my youth aslkjdfhg) and approaching combat like puzzles, so I'm also totally open to the idea of retaining classes and stat blocks but maybe not rolling. Maybe just trying to outsmart opponents or figure out creative ways? Or something? I'm not sure! I am completely open to discussion on how we handle combat and if we want to game-ify the characters. I think it could be fun, especially if we bring in classes from Final Fantasy, but I also know that's not really part of the original game so I could see where people might not want to. But let me know! Let's talk about it.
16.
Lastly, evidenced I am sure by the fact half of these rules aren't actually rules and more me just handing out information, I haven't ran a group rp in like 15 years. I'm rusty. I ask your patience with me as I try to figure this all out again. I am also so open to like talking about what we all want out of the rp, like my question about game-ifying it aslkjdfkg. I'm rusty and I just want everyone to have a good time, so until the rp starts officially I am malleable to hashing out details LOL
