There are a few mentions, in various books, of dark gods of death, disease, etc.  Does that mean the Underworld has its own gods? or do the Dual Monarchs & other "ghost lords" fulfill that function?

There aren't any gods "of the Underworld", however, the Abyssal book states that there are spirits that can draw essence from there.

I'd guess that spirits of Death and Pestilence and other things that are linked with the underworld would probably be able to draw essence from it, as they get THEIR essence from a lot of death or whatever in their area and I guess the underworld would kinda fit the bill?

so hold on how powerful is the Dual Monarchy? i mean do they have any control over the Deathlords or do they just rule Stygia?

The Dual Monarchs are probably the most powerful pair of ghosts next to the Deathlords. They don't have as much doom juice as their dead Solar cousins, but they're worshipped by pretty much every ghost in the Underworld, which gives them much essence.

It should be noted that as far as we know the Duel Monarchs don't have anything near as powerful as the Deathlord's ability to use Solar and Abyssal charms - They're just normal ghosts who have been elected to the position.


Of course, the position itself presumably gives them extra dap - Given just how much prayer is directed their way I'd be tempted to treat them like they have limitless essence and regain all their willpower each day. Which makes them easily the most powerful ghosts in the underworld.


I think the regalia of office takes the form of powerful yet undefined artifacts also, but my copy of Abyssals is out right now. The essence thing is what really sets them above all other ghosts, however.

... Neither actually.

actually I think there are no gods who draw anything out of the underworld, the underworld came to existence when primodials died and there were death gods before that.


And ancestor worship usually goes directly to the ghosts/families.
