One Time Luck
'Allo there. I'm new to RP Nation, but not to RPing. I'd love to find a few one x one RPs to keep me occupied.
Some info about me/Guidelines for a pleasant RP experience:
1.) Please incorporate proper grammar and spelling. I prefer quality over quantity, but my responses are typically a couple paragraphs or more. All I ask is that you provide enough detail to keep the RP moving, so I'm not running the story line on my own.
2.) I only write original characters, even in fandom settings, and I prefer to write against original characters as well. No, I won't play a canon, no matter how much you pout and plead.
3.) I'm a chick IRL, but I write male and female characters. I don't like doubling though, because it's usually obvious your partner's favorite character is their own gender, and the other pairing lacks the same enthusiasm and attention. I like portraying a wide cast of side characters to keep the RP interesting, and breathe life into the setting/world.
4.) I will write M/F, M/M and F/F without preference. I like developed, imperfect romances - no 'twu wuv' at first sight, please, and if our character's (or we) simply don't have chemistry, I won't force it. Strictly romantic RPs bore me to tears, though; there has to be a larger overarching plot, drama, humor and a scoop of action/adventure to go along with it.
5.) I only participate in fantasy, or light sci-fi RPs; whether high medieval fantasy or urban fantasy. No slice-of-life for me, please. I live that ish every day. There has to be some kind of magic system or speculative element to keep me engaged.
6.) As of late, I have more free time than usual, but I still have a life and RP isn't my number one priority. I try to reply every day, perhaps several times a day, but there may be times when I don't reply for 24 hours or more. Barring an emergency, I let my partner know if I'll be absent more than a couple days, and appreciate the same courtesy, but I am quite understanding.
7.) I will only write over the boards, PMs or [REDACTED]. I'm just not comfortable with RPing over IMs.
Now that that's out of the way...
Genres/Plots!
Modern/urban fantasy/paranormal
The Morrigan
- Basically, 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' meets faeries. For generations, teenagers have been disappearing from a city - gone without a trace, and only a few of those are aware of the truth. Every ten years, the Sidhe (forgotten Celtic gods turned fae) courts require a tithe, sweeping pretty young things away in a flurry of dancing and glamour to the Otherworld, only to be sacrificed as payment so the fae won't descend upon the city and terrorize its mortal residents. After her best friend disappears, a young girl encounters a banished faerie knight, who reveals the horrific truth of the tithe to her. The knight reveals that if she wishes to protect the teenagers in her city, and maintain the balance between the mortals and fae, she can perform a ritual and bind herself to the Morrigan - the ancient triple goddess of War. Will she be strong enough to wield such power, with the faerie knight's help?
* The faerie knight can be any gender, but the Morrigan girl must be female; kind of defeats the point of channeling the goddess if she's a dude, no? I just thought this would be a fun RP to toy with Celtic mythology and the terrifying nature of the Fair Folk. I can play the knight or the girl.
The Skinwalker War
- As long as anyone can remember, human beings with the ability to shift into animals have hidden in plain sight. They exist in shifter communities, passing their abilities along the generations through the power of totem animals and talismans. Shifters believe their powers come from the Myriad - the all connecting energy that binds every living thing together - a gift from Mother Nature itself to establish a deeper connection with the earth. Shifters exist peacefully, except for their conflict with the weres; these therianthropes don't have a choice about when they shift, doing so violently each month during the full moon with no sentience or humanity, becoming ravenous beasts that kill without thought. Weres transformation comes from what shifters call the Frenzy - the darkness and greed disguised as power which rips man apart from his environment. The only thing that sates the weres during their Frenzy is shifter blood, and shifter communities have armed themselves for generations against were attacks. When shifters prized totems start disappearing, and more and more shifters are found dead with their blood completely drained, everyone suspects the weres, and the shifter community is ready to declare war. But one were arrives in a shifter town to beg with leaders to listen; for the weres haven't been preying on the shifters, instead something far worse, parasitic demons called skinwalkers that have the power to steal shifters and weres souls and wear their skin.
*This can be a modern or high fantasy RP. Ideally, one of us would write a were and one of us would write a shifter, and they'd have to travel around trying to unite shifter and were communities to defeat the skinwalkers and whatever (or whoever) is summoning them.
High Fantasy/steampunk
The Ornament and the Pirate
- This is partly influenced by the Companions in Firefly with a steampunk twist. Taking place in a world with floating islands, flying galleon ships and the sky as an ocean. Human beings live in the sky; the ocean is merely a legend from the past, with mages channeling the elemental power from storms for their magic and corporations milking 'cloud farms' in order to provide liquids and drinking water. There are many different floating islands with their own customs and cultures, but after civil war they all now fall under the Empyrean Emperor's rule. A thriving trade route exists between the islands, with merchants and their ships becoming of higher status than born and bred nobility, and the Empyrean Navy defending the sky from all manner of harpies, dragons and pirates. But living aboard a ship often gets lonely for merchants and sailors, who are away from home for long stretches of time - so the most prominent, and wealthiest of merchant, naval and noble ships can purchase Ornaments. The most beautiful men and women born and bred to serve skyships and their Captains, providing whatever the Captain demands; essentially, glorified pleasure slaves with considerable aeronautical knowledge. Only the wealthiest members of the Empyrean can afford Ornaments; they are considered a powerful symbol of a ship's status.
When an Ornament turns seventeen, they 'graduate' from their Ornament House and attend the Adornment Ball; where they are 'Adorned,' essentially, auctioned off to the highest bidder, their 'Decorator.' It's a night long affair, where the Ornaments must be as alluring as possible to seduce the best match, and potential Decorator's must bid and compete for the Ornament they want, no matter the price. If an Ornament isn't Adorned and aboard a ship by their third ball, they are chucked to their death into the endless sky.
But what happens - when, instead of being Adorned by a wealthy merchant or naval captain - an Ornament is kidnapped at the ball by the King of Sky Pirates, and the Empyrean Emperor's sworn enemy?
*I can play the Ornament or the pirate king, and they can be any gender.
Random Fandoms
Avatar: the Last Airbender (haven't watched the later seasons of Korra, so must take place during/slightly after A:tLA, no plot ideas but I'm sure we can think of something, it helps if you already have a character you want to portray. I'd like to play a Southern Water Tribe girl who leaves home to find the Kyoshi Warriors, a male shamisen playing Earth Kingdom bard traveling the land in search of the ballad of the ages and village girls to woo, or a hot-headed male Fire Nation noble who just wants to use his bending to be a chef)
Harry Potter (would love a Slytherin/Huffepuff romance (already have characters in mind to play for either), or adult RP about Aurors in the Ministry)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I would love a period RP about Slayer during feudal Japan with a basis in Japanese mythology and a Slayer/Samurai or Slayer/Watcher romance)
Those are the ideas/plots I have to offer up now. I don't have PM access yet, so you will have to reply here or PM me. Don't hesitate to offer up any original fantasy ideas of your own. Happy RPing!
