Opinion Opinion on face claim

Is there any harm in using famous people for face claims? I find it harmless, since you're using it only to describe some features in an easier and quicker way. A template that people can go back on if need be in certain scenes. At least can you say, I want my OC to look like this or that celebrity.

I saw a bunch of people using such things and I find fine. Mostly because it's just a roleplay that has nothing to do with the real life people.

It depends on the face claim in my experience.

Is this a well known actor from genre TV (especially the genre the roleplay is in)? Example if someone was making a superhero roleplay and wanted to use Chris Evans I would spend the entire roleplay just picturing their character as Captain America which can kill the suspension of disbelief.

So I don’t think there is anything inherently wrong with it as long as you just talk to your partner. And are willing to be a little flexible if they are like .. “I am sorry I am having a hard time picturing this character as anything other than (role the actor plays)”.

honestly, it doesn't matter to me, unless people stop using celebs/influencers and start using some random Instagram user's selfies. that's pretty weird.

I use models' pictures for face claims. I find it hard to use well known celebrities in my RPs. If the celebrity is from like 1 or 2 tv shows I'm okay with it and sometimes use them as face claims myself but popular celebrities like Rihanna, Shakira or T Pain etc, I have to ask to switch because they're so well known I can't see them as anything other than who they are.

I like to use professional model pictures usually since I feel like they're kind of there for that but I have them in separate folders with their real names in case anyone wants me to credit them but I usually do private PM RPs and no one asks.

Yeah I get that. Well I am pretty flexible, It's no problem for me to switch to someone else. I was looking into crediting people, but huge celebrities? I mean maybe the people that took the photograph? I don't know, I usually do private roleplays and no one has asked me about it.

Yes, there's no need to use someone from instagram. There are models that literally royalty free for that use. But that's the thing, what if you just say...Well picture someone as (the name of the model/celebrity), then are you really using anything?

Yeah that makes the most sense. Some celebrities do have that problem where you can't even picture them in the state that the roleplay ask's of you.

There are actually public domain photo websites that the photos are literally created to be used in whatever way you want. usually they provide credit when you download the image.
