How many vaults should I have? I'm working on finding the population but I need to know how many vaults I'm allowed to have to make an accurate map

About sevenish would be my estimate. Keep in mind that not all Vaults would survive or have a G.E.C.K. though. Maybe cook up an experiment or three.

Technically vaults are impossible to properly estimate as they dont seem to have too much in the way or logic to their location

They're spread out in the West and clustered around notable cities in the East.

They're also sometimes placed according to what their experiment is.

I imagine there would be three for the three major population centers of Minnesota, one each for the two Dakotas, and about two for Wisconsin. There could be more. Possibly even less.

If we follow what the East Coast games tell us, there could be a suburb Vault or two. If we follow what the West Coast games tell us, they're built where it's suitable and logical as well, but there's just normally a single Vault per significant city.

Hmmm... There's three highly notable population centers in my territory which would/should have multiple vaults but there's also a lot of spaced out towns as well as forests which leads me to believe that one military vault as well as three-six iron production vaults being as it is the northern Mid West

There's no such thing as military vaults and iron production vaults. They're designed for the purpose of conducting, normally anyway, experiments.

The U.S. government overall but you are right that there's no evidence of the vault being used for those purposes...okay then

They didn't actually. Vault-Tec merely did government sanctioned experiments. Later on, Vault-Tec and Posideon Energy, along with possibly other powerful corporations, were absorbed by the Enclave, which were the remnants of former U.S. Government.

Vaults aren't actually meant to save people. They're meant to conduct horrible experiments on them. Sometimes these experiments work out though, or there's the odd control vault that doesn't have an experiment.

hmmm. Okay.

So if I pick un-used vault numbers...I get 96-100 which is only 5...sorry to anyone using vaults numbered 101 to 110

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Also, do you know how many years it's been since the vaults were supposed to open?

One vault opened fourteen years after the apocalypse. It depends on the vault.

For the purposes of this RP, what are we saying is the date that most vaults are opening? I'm just trying to find out whether anything was developed between the time of the vaults opening and 2290

Understand that Vaults can only hold a maximum of a 1,000 people and don't often succeed though. They're not going to be a cure-all.

Are you implying that I should make more than 351 vaults for the 351,894 (the 4% of the actual population) that I am entitled to?

Only 128 vaults exist I believe. So no. I'm informing you that you population largely can't be Vault Dwellers.

Ah. Okay. I understand. I was thinking of including a lightly radiated human populace being as those regions are unlikely to have been directly hit by nuclear weapons

They might've not been directly hit, but fallout spread, radioactive rain fell for a solid week shortly after that, as well as the sun being blocked out for a solid month, and then decades later a roughly decade long radioactive winter happened.
