[OOC Thread] Prinnies Breakroom [Disgaea]

Ze Hamster of Lurkdom
This is the OOC room. Feel free to speak your mind or pretend to be Heroes here.

So - how are we going to be dealing with more Creation-specific charms, abilities, or suchlike? Like the Solar who wants Wyld Shaping Technique, even though I'm pretty sure there's no Wyld in heaven nor hell. Also, Limit and Limit Break - still there or ignored as nonthematic to the game?

I'm going to do a house rules section cornering all the required modifications to rules. Just give me a little time to write it up.

Like said on the recruiting thread, I'll divide in two campaigns, considering the number of interested people.

Both will have the same basic beginning plot but thanks to plot derailment will end up completly different .

I see. Are we being split along any thematic lines (Team A is Heaven, Team B is Hell or something like that) or do we just grab a side and go 'wassup dudes'? I'd feel very dumb for putting my Infernal up on Team Heaven.

On the contrary, I like completly mixed up teams. After all, much comedy sparks from opposites. Just take the Disgaeas:

1) Team is composed to napoleon complex, short, scared of boobs and love overlod, a love freak angel trainee, a chronic backstabbing loli fatale, captain Gordon defender of Earth and his team...

2) A lawful stupid determined demon hunter, a machiavelic demon princess, two kid demons, a ninja...

3) Has a evil scientist overlord wanabe who reads comics, a human hero wanabe, a "delinquant" (does charity, is polite, goes to all classes) demon, a chainsaw wielding cute loving princess, a cook martial arts teacher...

Edit: To pick your group, simply put your character sheet and background in the appropriate topic. Limit in each group is 5 for the time being.

Aside from what I picked from TV tropes, I know absolutely nothing about the Disgaea gameworld. How much backstory will I need to put together initially ... can I limit myself to personality + charsheet at the start while I absorb setting-fu?

Do you have a preference for there to be Perfect Circle groups, or whatever a person feels like playing as in termss of Caste?

Well basicly, Disgaea is divided in three types of worlds: Angel world, Human world, and netherworld. There exist many alternate of each. For example Disgaea 1 human world is Earth in the future with Captain Gordon, Space Ships robots... The human world of Disgaea 3 seems a more heroic fantasy type with princesses and swords and stuff. So you have a lot of freedom in creating a character background. Try to focuss more on your character, close ones (mother might be worth mentioning) and immidiat environment.

Caste wise: go nuts. There dosn't need to have a "perfect circle".

Disgaea's setting is very fluid and is essentially a multi-verse.

Disgaea 1, 2, and 3 took place in different Netherworlds. Netherworlds are essentially universes ruled by an Overlord, who usually attains the position/title through pure strength, though it's not exactly uncommon for one to become Overlord by being a sneaky backstabber.

Netherworlds are not necessarily hellish either. Only in Disgaea 1 is there a heaven-like realm featured in the game, though more probably exist as universes as well. In Disgaea 1, it was Celestia.

Demons are generally somewhere between chaotic neutral and chaotic evil. They generally like being assholes, but they have standards. Rape is not okay, even among demons. On the other hand, they don't have much problem with murder unless it's done in a particular sadistic way. Demons do not necessarily have to be lawless individuals, as Overlords often establish hierarchies and laws, though they're rather broad and don't really interfere with what demons do other than be loyal to the Overlord. Generally though, it is in a demon's nature to take things from others, might makes right essentially. Still, there are instances of demon characters going against their nature.

I suggest that we do away with castes. Instead, players get to pick 10 favored abilities, rather than 5 caste and 5 favored. While this will allow people to power game more, I hope it leads to more flavored characters. If there's one consistent thing about Disgaea characters, it's that they all have quirks.

Personally, I think if we do have anima powers, you can more or less choose from any anima power of any Exalted. No point in limiting it to just Solars.

Familiar shouldn't have a problem, and Disgaea has no problem with magical structures.

House Rules, Rule 1 at the bottom of it anyway--- Anima ^^
Actually, at the moment it just says "anima banner", not "anima powers". Still, it may be implied or just accidentally neglected to be mentioned.

Personally I think there should be some for of anima power. Otherwise we don't even need Castes aside from the Caste/Favored Abilities standpoint.

Anima powers are nice differentiations between different characters, especially as the 'my power that nobody else can ever learn' thing.

Sorry for confusion, anima powers still are there. I just wanted to say that using powers with essence doesn't flash it up.

Other bakcgrounds work vaguely the same. As for other exalted powers, you can use luner/abyssal... but like I said, I don't have the manuals for them so please describe them in character sheet.

Define Sorcery more please? I take a charm for each level of basic/mega/giga?

Does that include more than just a general damage spell, or do I need to do something else to get other spells?

It includes healing spells, buff spells (that will be divided by level)...

basic/mega/giga... levels are acquired in the same way as proficiency with terrestrial/celestial/solar circles or sorcery. Individual spells are brought just like normal sorcery spells in the original manual.

So, I have to buy basic/mega/giga/omega/tera level magic as specific charms, and then the magic as well?

Definately not getting much above Giga then, I see.
