Ooc chat here.

Alright, my week of chaos is over, let's get to work on thinking on my character...

Uhm... You made a pyromancer... I'm not sure about how I am doing it with magic, my plan was to not have the characters have any... However you made me question my decision.. Maybe I should allow clerics and pyromancers...

If its the dark souls inspired of course lmao. The three schools of magic. Sorcery, Miracles, and Pyromancers.

As I said, it's inspired, not a fandom. Its still a original setting that does not have to have those three.

I'm thinking about it. Ill tell you if I'm done.

Well, i have an idea:

I can grant some  basic spells.

Like a soul arrow for sorcery, heal for clerics and a fire ball for pyromancers.

And i can invent new spells that you can ge tthrough the story.

Or just play to the lore of the game. Each school takes years of practice and a specific "condition" for it to work. To be a sorcerer, you need to be very intelligent and have a thirst to know more about the world you live in. To want a deeper understanding of everything.

For miracles, you need to be pious. Your faith in the gods must be unshakeable for you to cast great miracles. Miracles also require incantations that must be spoken for miracles are like telling stories about the gods or the folly of men. Certain miracles need strong faith in certain gods or beliefs.

Pyromancy MUST be taught. The other two can be learned but the bond between pyromancy has always been through the connection of "family." Pyromancy is tied deeply to the emotions of the wielder and is considered the hardest of the three to fully master. Simply because, the deeper understanding you gain of pyromancy, the more you come to realize that "The flame is never within your control." Pyromancers must always fear the flame because it is the only school of magic that can consume you and kill you if you get too cocky.

All the schools have their conditions and while a character may believe in the gods and "know a story or two" (talking about miracles specifically here) the result of the cast will be minimal compared to someone who truly worships the gods with everything they have. Depending on WHO the character is, will depend on how effecient and powerful of a caster they can be. For balancing sakes, a very powerful sorcerer can't also be a pious worshipper of the gods.

Now I can take this a step further to include the dark side of the three schools. According to the lore, any magic that contains echoes of darkness is considered the stain of humanity within the spells. In the form of miracles, it may be for worship of dark gods like velka or the deep faith of the abyss itself. Sorcery is for a deep understanding of ones self. Dark sorcery tends to only be accessible by people in despair. The magic is slower, darker, but has a tendency to seek out the light despite it's nature, as if looking for acceptance (like a human being searching for hope). Dark pyromancy tends to be for those that are angry. The wrath of humanity is contained behind the black flames.

Whenever a school goes dark, it is no longer considered "pure" and the character must also match the mindset that is required of dark magic. Lorewise, there is many checks and balances to the schools of magic. Gameplay wise it just doesn't function on so deep of a level. If we stick to the lore aspect of the schools then its actually very balanced. To be a powerful sorcerer, the character can't be a powerhouse as well. They must wear cloth with few exceptions and wield very basic weapons, and must meet a certain criteria with their personality. Clerics must be very stalwart and unshakeable in their faith of the gods to be very powerful and effecient. This entails a character personality check as well. Pyromancy is the same, they must strive to pass on their teachings, and be a person who is emotionally dependent of the flame and must also fear it at all times. They must also have been taught by others. Pyromancy can't just be picked up after all. The flame needs to be imparted upon you by another or you must have killed someone for it and stolen their flame.

Very deep and interesting stuff.

Well, that sounds cool...

It goes deeper than that but thats just so everyone can get a basic understanding of how magic works in dark souls. Its not as simple as "pour points into INT and become great magic shooter LAZA BEAMS YAAAAAS" hahahahaha!

I like her idea better, it almost kinda feels like you're trying to hijack the rp in respect to character abilities, the rp is darksouls inspired, in other words the feel and emotions, the darkness, it's inspired. This is not a fandom rp, this is an original, meaning she will not take ideas from the game.

Thats great and all but nowhere in the RP does it state that magic is not allowed nor in what form. What Im saying is a suggestion with very good reasoning and balance behind it. You take that as you will.

If it doesn't work out then ok. Ill leave and that will be that. Its her RP. Not gonna chastise the woman for not wanting magic.

I think sticking to "no magic for characters" will work out better. I actually have a nice plan for how to not completely exlcude it.

so the rule will be

NO CHARACTER STARTS WITH MAGIC. THERE MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT BE A CHANCE TO OBTAIN IT THROUGHOUT THE RP.
