OnexOne A Princess and her Butler (With Marias Ditch)

Alyssa fiddled with her pencil. It wasn't very "princess-like" of her, but she needed to get all this energy out somehow! Usually Alyssa was no where near this excited. But today was different. Today she had a meeting with her only servant/butler/tutor/friend. Alyssa was very excited for his company. To her, it felt like their last meeting was so long ago.

Alyssa clenched her pencil and laid it down on the table. She smoothed out the invisible wrinkles in her blue dress and took a deep breath. She wanted to look good for him. For he might only be a servant to her mother and father, but to Alyssa, he was so much more. A feather dusting of blush covered her cheeks. Yes; he did mean a lot to her. Alyssa stared at the door to her study and waited for his long-awaited knocking.

Princess Alyssa is much more than just a princess to him, she's a precious friend, maybe even more...Blush going across his cheeks Mark shakes his head fixing his uniform before heading out to the hallway to her room. Runing a hand in his hair, it stays down looking professional although he knew he didn't need to. Mark wanted to look good..

Walking to Alyssa's room Mark puts a hand on his chest, taking a breath as he stops in front of her room. Knocking on the door he straightens out his uniform before coming in, smiling at her. "Good morning Princess." Mark says smiling hugging her before sitting down across from her at the table with her papers out. "How have you been?" he asks raising an eyebrow at Alyssa, looking around the room.

As Mark enters the room, Alyssa corrects her posture, sitting upright in her chair. She smooths at her skirt again, noticing that she's beginning to repeat actions. Alyssa contributes this to nervousness. For reason, she always held her butler in very high esteem, even though her parents constantly remind her that he is of a lower class than her. Alyssa smiles as Mark comes over to hug her. She hugs him back, burrowing her head into the nape of his neck. What would her parents think if they saw her? Alyssa giggled at the thought. She knew Mark well to initiate physical contact with him, but it was by no means appropriate. She knew that if her parents saw them, they'll probably flip out. Alyssa was doing her best not to let them know.

"And good morning to you too!" she replied to Mark. She sighed a little and rested her head on her arm. Now that she knew they were alone, she could relax. "Nothing really has happened to me since the last time you were here." She blew some hair out of her face. "You know how I'm cooped up here..." she mumbled. "Anyway, how are you? What have you been up to?" she asked him, her face visibly brightening.

Laughing softly Mark watches her, setting a hand on her head before smiling. "Yeah, it's better for you to see the outside for yourself but what can you do? Royals are always worried." he says shrugging. "Luckily they trust me to teach you and help you without worry, they'd kill both of us if they saw us hug." Mark says laughing. "I've good, mainly been wandering the library and halls while i'm here if you're busy. The towns are good though, still dealing with their own issues but nothing major. How about you?" he says looking to her curiously.

Alyssa grumbled but secretly she liked Mark's touch. "We're the same age, but you just seem so much more worldly than me!" Alyssa couldn't help but be a little jealous. She knew that as a royal she had a lot more opportunities than other people had. But that didn't stop her from wishing she could live life away from the castle. "I've just been up here, mostly," she answered Mark. "Just been reading and writing, sleeping, looking out my window..." she ticked off what she said on her fingers. "Anyway, what was that you said about the towns? Is everything okay?" Alyssa's brow creased. It was easy to make her worry about her people.

"That's because your parents keep you from seeing the outside close-up, once you can actually go out with no worries you'll have more knowledge than me!" Mark says smiling taking his hand away. "Read any good books? And please tell me their teaching you more than how to be a lady." he says laughing slightly sighing softly. The fact she couldn't actually see her people face to face annoyed him, she's the next ruler so why keep her locked up? Sighing he looks at her, "The shops are dealing with thiefs and money is going missing along with other peoples treasures." he says shaking his head.

"Well, I'm rereading that book I was telling you about. The one where the girl runs away from home? Sounds like a pretty good idea to me, honestly," she said. Of course Alyssa would never run away. She had to be there for her people. "And they're teaching me how to be a lady but," Alyssa paused and smiled wickedly. "Who says that it's working?"Alyssa listened to what Mark said was happening to her people. "Well that's not right!" she said, her voice raising slightly. She coughed and settled down. She wrapped her hands together. "Do my parents know of this?" she asked. Alyssa was sure that they did. They just weren't doing anything.

Smiling Mark chuckled, "Yeah, hey that'd be one way of learning the way of the people but your parents would stop that right away." he says. Laughing he nods, "You might be a lady to everyone else but you're just Alyssa to me. Besides they should be teaching you on how to defend yourself!" he says sighing heavily. "It's not right at all but some people live to ruin others lives, and i'm sure they do but what do they care?" Mark asks raising an eyebrow. "As long as the trouble doesn't come to the castle they couldn't careless unfortunately." he says shaking his head sadly.

That did not sit right with Alyssa. "I wish they would care more for the common people," she confessed to him. Alyssa knew that Mark was the one person she could talk to. She tapped the table nervously. She cared for her people immensely, even if the only time she saw them was behind thick glass. Alyssa reached over the table and grabbed Mark's hands. "Mark," she whispered. "Is there anything I can do, you think?"

(Sorry about any wait; I'm working on my NaNoWriMo novel)

(Your fine, I'm in class so may respond late.)

"I agree, but nobles are known to only intervene when it's a war." Mark says sadly to her. Watching her he sighs softly, "I know you care immensely about them, it's so obvious and that's a good thing. Just your family doesn't. " he says petting her. Blushing he nods, "Once your the ruler you can help so much Alyssa." He says lovingly

Alyssa noticed Mark blushing. "Huh. He's been doing that more often, lately," she thought. "Is it because of me?" Alyssa couldn't think of anything that would make Mark blush. She hadn't done anything differently today. Maybe he was feeling sick? Alyssa shook her head. "I can't wait that long," she finally spoke. "Who knows when I will be ruler? And my people need my help now..." Alyssa said, standing up. She began to pace around her room. 'What to do? What to do?" She turned to Mark. "You can help me," she said, stepping towards him. "Help me help them," she pleaded.

Watching her pace Mark nods, thinking. "Well...I know a way but if we're caught then we're both dead." he says standing up. Looking at Alyssa he pulls out a book from his bag on the floor, flipping through pages. "Technically you could ask your parents to help the people but they won't. So we'll have to use another measure." Mark says stopping on a page. "But we'll have to do it at night when everyone is asleep." He says looking at her seriously.

Alyssa smiled. "Ohhhh... I think I know what you're getting at..." she replied. She stopped pacing an hopped up towards Mark. "And I like it," she whispered for effect. Alyssa was a dramatic girl, and with the limited amount of time she had with Mark, she had to look as cool as possible while he was nearby. Alyssa didn't know why, but she always felt a need to impress him. She peered over Mark's shoulder. Her chin was nearly resting on her butler's arm. She had the urge to move her chin down just a little bit, that would have not been proper. She swallowed hard and spoke. "What's in the book?" she asked, scanning the page. Alyssa brought up a hand to rub her eyes. "I don't have my glasses..." she mumbled.

Smiling at Alyssa he chuckles lightly, watching her move before laughing. "If we use a page from this book then we can make sure the guards don't get alerted." Mark says to Alyssa softly looking at her. "You're so goofy, I love it." he says amusement in his voice as she rests herself on him. "This book is a book of spells, the one i'm looking at is a doppelganger kind of deal. Acts like you but once it's seen as a doppelganger it disappears and then your family will know." Mark explains smiling to her. "So, sound good?" he asks putting a hand on her head lightly.

Alyssa blushed at Mark's comment. "Gee, you're sweet," she replied. Alyssa rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. She didn't know what to say. "I didn't know you knew spells," commented Alyssa. "I'm impressed." Alyssa was suddenly overcome with an excited energy. Since Mark's hands were full, she didn't grab them. So instead she grabbed onto his shoulders. "Wow, this is great! I'll be able to help the shopkeepers, and see the world..." she trailed off. "And hang with you..." she said in a much quieter voice. She rebounded back to her normal self. "Yes sounds good! And if it works, you could maybe use the spell to visit me sometimes?" she asked. "If I'm permitted to be a little selfish..."

Blushing slightly Mark chuckles, "Yeah, I was taught to use them by my parents. Although their long gone now I still have their knowledge." he says smiling at her. Nodding he listens to Alyssa, smiling happily at her energeticness. "You want to help the people, well you can! And of course i'll come to make sure your safe." Mark says looking at her sweetly. "The world is nice to explore but it'll be dangerous as well so i'll help you learn to fight and we could travel together." he says somewhat shyly scratching the back of his head.

"Yes! I wouldn't want to travel anywhere without you!" she said, grabbing his hand. Alyssa dragged him to the window and gestured outside."I always wanted to visit that part with the fountain," she told him, pointing outside. "And that church, too. Look at the stained glass art! And the open- air market and the school and the..." Alyssa continued to animately list all the sites she wanted to see, gesturing to each one of them. When she was done, she took a deep breath and smiled at Mark. "Yeah. I want to see everything," she said. A lazy smile drifted across her face and her shoulders drooped. Just the thought of leaving removed so much stress from her body. She traced the window with her fingers. "I suppose I should wear a hood so no one recognizes me..." Alyssa drifted to her closet and pulled out a red cloak. She wrapped it over her shoulders and lifted of the hood. "How do I look?" she asked Mark.

Smiling Mark lets himself be pulled to the window, looking at all the places she points to laughing. Watching her he smiles, "I want to see you happy and where you want to be, so i'll gladly stay by your side." Mark says grinning at her. "Plus we'll need to bring some basic rations and blankets, so that we can be safe." he says chuckling. Coming to her he smiles, hugging her and chuckling "You look lovely Alyssa." Mark says smiling lovingly at her before blushing.

"Rations, food supplies? I have a stash under my bed, as well as a few extra blankets," replied Alyssa. I got onto the floor and pulled out a box. She pulled off the lid. Inside were a few snack items like granola bars. A small icebox held a few sandwiches. "I get hungry a lot," admitted Alyssa. As Mark hugged her, Alyssa gave in. She loved how warm and soft he felt. "Thank you, Mark," she mummered into his shirt. "You're so kind to me."

(P.S. It's midnight so I'm going to bed :) )

Watching her Mark smiles listening, looking inside the box impressed. "Hey, you're healthy if you get hunfry a lot. Big deal." he says chuckling. Thinking he looks around, "Do you have a bag to put it all in? If we get it arranged ahead of time then we'll be even safer and good on time." Mark says smiling to her. Laughing softly he puts a hand on her head lightly, "Well I have been around since we were both fairly young, so of course I am." he says smiling.

Alyssa nodded. "I'm sure I can scrounge something up," she said, walking to a large ornate chest. She threw the lid open and ruffled up the insides. She began to pull out a bunch of random stuff, like the teddy bear she used to sleep with. After pulling out a bunch of assorted scarves, she let out a happy cry. "Here it is!" she announced, pulling out a rough brown knapsack. Alyssa began to pile food inside it, as well as an extra blanket. The bag bulged. She slung it over her shoulder and smiled at Mark. "I think I'm good then! Can we leave this night?"

Looking at the chest, Mark giggles seeing the teddy bear. Picking it up he squeezes it feeling how soft it is, "This is adorable." He says smiling at her. Setting it down he looks at the Knap sack seeing it bulge. "Yup, I just need a hair of yours." Mark says smiling at her.

"A hair," Alyssa asked. It slowly dawned upon her, and she hit herself in the forehead. "Ohhhh... for the spell," she realized. "Yeah, um, sure. Here you go," Alyssa threaded her finger through her hair until her pinkie finally snagged on a loose piece of hair. She tugged to loose, holding it between her thumb and pointer finger. The hair turned auburn in the light. "Will this suffice?" she asked. "Oh, I'm so excited to go out with you!" she exclaimed. Realizing what she said, she coughed and blushed. "I mean.. uuuh" she sputtered. "This trip will let me experience the lives of the common people of my country and help me be a better leader to them in the future." Alyssa's face was bright red.

Laughing Mark nods, "Yes, it will be used to make your doppelganger." he explains putting it into a small container. Watching Alyssa he couldn't help but smile chuckling lightly "I'll make mine after yours so that your parents don't suspect anything." he says pulling out a piece of his own. Blushing deeply hearing those words he smiles lightly, looking around awkwardly, "T-This journey will teach us both new things of this world, it'll be very fun." Mark says looking at her still red.
