merfolk are real. humans may not be aware, but they swim in the darkest parts of the sea. they're magnificent creatures, each unique to their fish counterparts - from blue whale folk that stretch miles across in size, to goldfish folk that are only a mere inches in size. each is to their own, surviving in the crystal blue waters and thriving just under humanity's notice.
✖ is a young woman living near the coast of hawaii. the girl was born and raised there, and her father coaxed her into developing a passion for the ocean. she learned how to surf and how to operate the trusty little speedboat her father had saved up for so long ago, constantly going out to the waters and never having negative experiences while in them.
however, as ✖ grew older, life started to tumble downhill rapidly. she lost her father at seventeen, which struck her deeply and left her on her own. she worked hard for two straight years, whilst also keeping schoolwork and paying for the house in the balance. ✖ was being far too overworked, and eventually, things started to bear down on her. she became depressed and anxious, in a perpetual state of lost hope. it was a dark time, and she eventually gave in to the temptation of returning to the sea. she thought it would help her calm down a little, release some stress.
after work one day, ✖ took out her dusty old speedboat and worked on it a little from the knowledge she had gathered from her late father. fixing it back up and hooking it up to her car, she went out to a public dock and got it onto the water, testing its condition before confirming it to be safe to drive. she drove the boat far out, until the noises of the docks were all drowned out by the silence and the ambiance of the sea. ✖ turned off the boat and allowed herself to relax, reminisce a little. it was truly a peaceful time for a while.
is a killer whale merman. he left his pod as soon as he matured enough to go, and has been exploring the world ever since, pushing his way through the adversities for the sake of discovering exotic places. he was always larger than the rest of his brothers and sisters, at somewhere near forty-five to fifty feet from the top of his head to the tip of his tail-fin. a rare few challenged him, and any that did regretted it. however, isn't an aggressive creature unless it's called for; he's rather curious, actually, and he tries to be as gentle as possible with other kind-natured creatures. knew he had reached near to land, and avoided swimming in too shallow. however, he came across something that intrigued him, to say the least. it was a boat, floating much farther out from the shoreline than he'd ever seen others of the contraptions floating at - the boat that ✖ happened to be relaxing in. curious, approached the little boat and encountered ✖, unintentionally frightening her to the core. but the encounter quickly turned into awe-struck curiosity between the both of them. what would ✖ do with this discovery? would she give the secret away to the world, or would she keep to her own knowledge?[[ this is a very free-roam type plot. it can go anywhere we'd like. give me suggestions. the concept of this one is unique to me and i'd love to play it, if anyone would be willing to give it a shot. ]]

Oakcrest Academy is a pretty normal high school. there are friend groups and maybe a couple of cliques scattered around, with drama and all the bullshit that comes with being a teenager. there are people who've found a place or a group to stick around with, and there are the lonelier ones who seem to like their own company. ✦ is one of the lonelier ones.
✦ has been at the school for two years, now residing in her late sophomore year. the fall semester has ended and carried into the spring semester, and she still hasn't bothered to try finding a place with the kids that surround her daily. there's nothing wrong with her - she may be a little quiet, but it isn't debilitating. her life was never terrible, but never picturesque either. she seems a bit unremarkable on the surface, but has some potential to flaunt to anyone who gives her a chance and wants to be her friend. ✦ can't say that she minds being a loner. some question her and pass light rumors around about her, but nothing ever comes of them.
there's one kid, though, one boy that nobody ever questions, spreads rumors of, or even is brave enough to speak to - and this is ☾. he's intimidating physically, and aggressive in his moods. there always seems to be a bit of a feral edge to ☾ that many have difficulty explaining, but it sure as hell keeps people off of his back and cowering in a corner. he gets into fights, argues with teachers, and even has hurt some kids - badly - for talking shit about him. practically everyone is afraid of him.
as everyone else does, ✦ keeps her distance from ☾. she has a class with him, but she manages to stay under the radar most of the time. however, when they start catching each other's eyes, she finds herself being wrapped up into a mix of caution and curiosity. the way ☾ looks at her isn't in a manner of aggression, like he wants to hurt her - if anything, he looks intrigued. ✦ doesn't know what it means, but she doesn't trust it. it isn't until the two are assigned to a project as partners that she realizes she'll need to face him directly, and they'll need to legitimately work together.
when ✦ first properly meets ☾, she immediately knows that something is different about him. and not different in the personality sense - his being just ... feels different. the feral edge doesn't strike her as normal. the two work surprisingly well together, despite being very different to one another in personality, and she's surprised as they actually start to become friends.
but when trust is gained, ✦ starts to slowly coax out a truth from ☾ that would change her view of the world forever - his true identity. his second form, his wolf form, the form that gives him the power of intimidation and apparent aggression that can send anyone away with their tails between their legs.
what will ✦ do when ☾ can't take keeping it from her anymore, and proves it to her? will fear overtake awe? will she still want him to be a part of her life?

[ demon ∞ / human ♠ ]
in this world of fantasy, demons are creatures to be feared. some appear as humans, some are so grotesque and misshapen that calling them human would be a straight lie. villages fear these creatures and protect against them as much as they can, using holy weapons to slay them and even hiring trained demon hunters to protect their homes and their families.
♠ is the daughter of a powerful demon hunter. she's in her very late teens, soon to reach her eighteenth year of living and become old enough to start training to follow in her father's footsteps professionally. she has been raised to think that all demons are malevolent, and most truly are - but her thoughts would be shifted when the greatest capture of many decades came to pass.
the father of ♠ managed to capture one of the most powerful demons they had ever encountered, which happened to be ∞. though still a fairly young demon, his physical power, his so closely-human appearance, and the mix of extreme aggression and intelligence made him a very, very tough one to subdue. they managed to trap him alive, however, with pure force and a whole lot of holy tools, and instead of simply eliminating him, the hunters took him back to their town and locked him away to be examined.
♠ witnessed the imprisonment of ∞ and, despite being taught that all demons are evil, got curious about this one. when she first saw him, she felt like there was something else lying underneath the outside. while her father was distracted, ♠ snuck into the place where ∞ was being held and managed to find him in his cage. ∞ noticed her entering, and thought that that would be his chance to get out of there - sweet talk ♠ into letting him out and he was home free.
however, ♠ was smarter than to fall victim to his trickery. when ∞ realized that she wouldn't let him go, he gave it up and heard her asking him questions instead - which surprised him. she wanted to learn more about him, when ∞ was under the impression that ♠ thought that he was no more than an animal. since there didn't seem to be much of a compromise, and she'd probably bug him until he gave her answers, ∞ answered a couple of her questions gruffly - but that led into more questions, and more answers. a long talk later, the two actually started to get enveloped into a meaningful conversation, but ♠ had to leave before they could get any further. she left on semi-good terms, both curious about one another.
something between them was soon to start budding, something that would change both of them. would ♠ find out that not every demon intends to be evil? would ∞ see good in the humans that want to kill him?
