It was late; 2 AM to be exact. Maggie slumps into the driver’s seat, the bright beams of the street lights casting a golden hue over her raven hair. Her warm brown eyes are glued to the street, dainty fingers laced loosely around the frame of the steering wheel. The radio plays quietly in the background, almost obscured by the road noise as their beat-up old car zooms steadily along the highway. She had always been better at driving at night, even as a teenager, when they’d snuck out of the house to go to a late night party.
Y/C’s eyes linger on the rearview mirror as they watch the road pass behind them, chin in their hand. It’s almost time for Y/C to drive again, but they aren’t in any rush to switch. Y/C’s thoughts continue to wander, lingering briefly on that feeling of anxiety in the pit of their stomach. How were they to tell Maggie how they felt? They’d all been friends for a long time, but would it make things awkward between them if they did say something?
Now would be as good a time as any to find out. On this road trip of theirs, anything is possible.
