- DATA 1⠀⠀INTRODUCTIONIt’s the year 789 AS (After Submerging)
The world has long since been flooded; you’ve heard tales of this event, some say global warming, others a tragic event, history documents were not well preserved on the SSN Rebellionis. Your descendants escaped the flooding and instead dived deeper into the greatest submarine humanity had to offer. Who were your descendants? They were the masters of their craft, as that was their ticket aboard the submarine.
Generations have passed as a craft has been passed down from parent to child; you spent most of your childhood being mentored by your parents to carry on the family legacy. You always wondered what the stars looked like or what a sunburn was. How could a ball of plasma hurt you from so far away? It doesn’t matter now; your main purpose is to guarantee the future of the submarine, at least it was. Every milestone reached, the scientists sent a set of probes to the surface to scour the water for land, and this time one of the probes actually pinged back coordinates and rudimentary data. Land. The probes had found relatively habitable land to establish a community above the waves, the scientists aboard had been registering lowering sea levels for a couple of hundred years, but landmasses of this size were not due to emerging for another couple hundred years; this fact was pushed aside by celebration across the vessel.
It was time humanity spread from its metal shell and reestablished itself under the sun. However, they were still years from even commencing the construction of the colony. The land would have to be surveyed by a team of human operators, soil samples taken, photographs taken, any research that could be done on this land had to be done. This mission is relatively straightforward; all the best science families inside the vessel concluded there was almost no chance for animal life to have inhabited the surface yet. The submarine will need a lot of human resources to complete this mission; there will be no margin for error, the fate of humanity relies on this mission’s success.
The first part of the mission will rely on the aforementioned survey team resurfacing to survey the land; this is the team you have been picked for. You are part of the smartest, strongest and talented people aboard the vessel. Each of you possesses a skill no one else can rival you in, whether its' engineering, photography or even shooting, all of these skills are now vital to the mission. Your training and conditioning have prepared you for this; it was time to put your learning into practice. Will you accept the invitation to join the team?
DATA 2⠀⠀NOTES FROM THE GMHey! Thank you for taking the time to check out my roleplay! This will be the first one I am hosting independently and I’m proud of what I’ve got so far. I feel very excited to bring this world alive with the help of you all. It’s taken a lot longer than I’d like to admit to settling for a specific plotline and I hope you like the direction I plan on taking this.
The story will be very player-run, I do have an idea of how I would like things to go, however, the players will have the choice of ultimately creating their own story. So, the roleplay will follow a crew of surveyors who venture to the surface to survey the land for possible colonisation, the characters will have just been coming into adulthood so they will be around the 20+ range. Every character will also have an area of expertise they are unrivalled in, I implore you all to get creative, you’re the best of humanity, show it.
I will be uploading the character sheet soon, there's no deadline set yet, but I do intend on starting as soon as possible. If you have any questions feel free to drop them below or shoot me a pm!
- LORE 1⠀⠀BEFORE THE FLOODThe world before The Flood was a world that had finally found unity and peace with itself, every nation under one banner, under one new world order, The Global Coalition. Of course, there were still conflicts, small uprisings who intended to free themselves of the Global Coalition, but nothing too big or serious to warrant concern from the global hegemony. The Global Coalition’s focus was set on scientific advancements and breakthroughs, they literally had all the scientists and money needed to fund any project, and they did quite that. The standards for government funding on projects were very low, all you needed was a basic hypothesis and how this would impact society, you also needed some credentials in your intended field.
This new scientific revolution would be the revolution to finally topple the Global Coalition. One project simply dubbed, ‘The Jupiter Project’ was formed in an effort to find ways to control the weather, the reasoning for this is quite simple if you control the weather you become one step closer to becoming God, something the Global Coalition very much did intend on doing.
LORE 2⠀⠀THE JUPITER PROJECTNamed after the Roman God of gods, and God of weather, Jupiter, this project intended on finding a way to harness the weather, to control it. This would allow the Global Coalition to make it rain wherever, flood wherever, or even drought wherever it wanted. This new technology seemed innocent on the surface but it wasn’t hard to tell what the Global Coalition intended on doing with this technology. The Global Coalition enlisted some of its best scientists and engineers to work and assist on the project, the project was also given a government grant of infinite money, meaning they could basically do whatever as long as it forwarded the main goals of The Jupiter Project.
Due to the government’s grants and lending the project some of its top brass, the project went at a steady pace. Many breakthroughs in understanding and harnessing the weather were done in the first few years of the project is started, and after a few more years of endless math calculations and talking with engineers they finally had completed their first prototype dubbed, ‘The Weather Conductor,’ a machine the size of a two-story building that supposedly had the ability to manipulate the atoms in a ten-kilometre radius.
The Global Coalition finally had confirmation that the prototype worked, so they got to work on ways to make it work on a global scale. Some ideas like a hyper conductor were thrown around, a conductor so big it could manipulate the atoms globally, but the resources to build such a facility were too great. Instead, The Global Coalition settled on Resolution #471 or, ‘The Webway’
LORE 3⠀⠀THE WEBWAYThe design of this specific resolution was simple, a fleet of satellites stationed around Earth, if positioned precisely and in a certain pattern they will be able to give the effects of the Weather Conductor prototype on a global scale. The construction of The Webway would take years, not to mention finding a way to protect each individual satellite from space debris and other space phenomena like solar flares.
Alas, The Webway was eventually complete, The Global Coalition had complete control of the skies, they had become the greatest force on Earth. Whilst they were busy celebrating their achievement an engineer didn’t complete all their checks and maintenance work. It was a simple line of code that made The Webway malfunction, a simple truth from a false, during the week-long celebrations it was raining. At first, everyone assumed it was natural rain, and the Global Coalition decided to test their newfound power and stop the rain, a couple of calls later and the rain was still pouring down harder than ever.
LORE 4⠀⠀THE TWO YEAR RAINThe start of the flood at the end of an era. When man finally became Gods, and just as fast as they did they fell so high, so high from grace. The rain didn’t stop, and any attempt to shut down The Webway was fruitless due to the satellites being disconnected from the Earth’s systems, and any attempts to physically destroy the satellites were also impossible due to the Global Coalition's own safety measures; all their rockets were detonated before they could reach it.
Panic was widespread across the world as news of this terrible event got out, rumours passed around that the rain would end, but those rumours were always proved wrong. It was time to plan for the future, the high brass at the Global Coalition had already consulted the scientists, they knew in two years the Earth will be flooded, they knew they had to take to the skies. They fled aboard the capital airship, the Godspeed, an experimental nuclear-powered airship that had the capacity to facilitate the needs of a small country, in this case, they’d be facilitating the ones the Global Coalition deemed worthy, which was their own kind.
With the sole world order and its government gone the world quickly fell into chaos, looting and crime on every corner, people thought stockpiling would save them, others thought buying a private bunker would let them weather the storm, survive until the water levels dropped.
LORE 5⠀⠀THE SSN REBELLIONISHowever, one engineer, left behind from the Global Coalition due to his expertise on seafaring and submarines decided to take his newest experimental submarine which could house a few thousand people and sell tickets at an exuberant price. Many people thought it was a scam, but what was money worth in a world that's dying? It was only then when people say that the price wasn’t in money, but skill, the advertisements for the submarine declared he would take people who were masters of their crafts, biologists, carpenters, writers even.
The Engineer, Harold Schwieger, got an influx of resumes sent to him, it seemed like the entirety of the human race was hedging their bets on getting into this submarine. However, when Harold said masters of their craft he didn’t say that for dramatic effect, he would do extensive research on each recipient and check all their qualifications tenfold, only then was he sure he had the best of humanity.
Harold had his crew, people from all walks of life huddled in a metal coffin destined to float the deep sea and maintain humanity in their ship. Harold took only enough people so as to not have to worry about the possible overpopulation problem that would occur, instead his main concerns rested on maintaining order aboard the vessel. The voyage was rather bleak, escaping the chaos from the surface to the deep ocean was rather uneventful, besides the whole end of the world event. The SSN Rebellionis was destined to drift in the ocean for many many years to come, some even speculated it would never surface again.
LORE 6⠀⠀THE AGE OF SILENCETo say the crew on the ship felt isolated was an understatement, despite having well over a hundred people, everyone had that feeling of claustrophobia that just wouldn’t go away, people missed the sunlight, they missed walking in the parks, hell, some even missed getting stuck in traffic and being scolded by their bosses. These things that were missed were slowly forgotten through ages, as people who were born on the submarine had never experienced them, all they knew was the dark sight of the world through the portholes.
The original crew were hailed as saviours from the future generations, the long past Harold Schwieger their God, they believed he was some divine being that hand chose their descendants for a reason, that they were destined to revive humanity when it was time, and they were only half wrong. The submarine now found a new religion, Schwiegerists, it was widely accepted throughout the ship and its teachings were actually quite humble, everyone had to work their field and teach their descendants about it, everyone had to care for the wellbeing of the submarine and its crew.
The submarine also had its own natural order, children didn’t get to choose their profession, they were born into it. Descendants of the original Biologists were masters in their area, whilst descendants of the carpenters could build anything with their tools. It seemed nature had managed to infest something so unnatural.
