Halloween was just around the corner, it was Carter's favorite time of the year when she was in Scottland with her parents. She just thought it looked slightly more scary around that time of the year. Boy did she love Halloween and Hogwarts. She was in the library, looking up books about Halloween for a class assignment. She hummed a soft song she learned as a child, 'A Hunting We Will Go'.

However, Grant wasn't keen on Halloween. Like any non-human his Pixie side was the worst around that time of year. He already had to put a spell on his ears eight times that day alone. He was walking down the hallway towards the quad. He needed air, it was still daylight so he couldn't get in trouble.

Chris was walking through the Divination section in the library as he heard a girl hum. With a frown he peaked around the corner of a shelf and randomly spotted a girl sitting at a table. He thought of approaching her for a moment but he stopped not sure what to talk to her about and it seemed rather impolite to him to do so. Moreover, he was staring at her for more than just a few seconds by now.

Emma was coming back from the greenhouses to the castle. She was excited for today's feast as well as seeing the ghost tonight. Like each year the ghosts would participate in some kind of play and if she was lucky Peeves would annoy Flich to hell. With a smirk she suddenly collided into a Gryffindor as soon as she wanted to walk through the door. "Can't you watch your step?!?" she asked irritated and looked at the person, who she had bumped into. "Stupid Gryffindors!", she spoke sounding arrogant while eyeing Grant for a moment.

Carter looked up, seeming to feel the presence of someone watching her. She looked over at the boy then the section she was in, "Do you need help?" The Ravenclaw asked as her blue eyes watched him with a soft look. More and more people found out Trelawney was Carter's grandmother and often asked for help in class, suspecting she knew the answers... Though, of course she did. She was good at that class.

Grant rolled his eyes, "You where the one who wasn't watching, snakey." The Pixie boy said making his way past her. He may not know when to shut up but he knew how to ignore someone who just wanted to argue. He pulled out his wand to re-place the spell. "I hate Halloween," he mumbled to only himself.

"Oh, umm...", Chris started to talk feeling embarrassed over suddenly being caught. He had no clue Trelawney and the girl in front of him were related. To him the divination class was a waste of time and the whole foreseeing thing was made up and as exact as the Muggle's try on predicting the weather. "No, I.. I was randomly in this section and heard someone hum really nicely...", he finally stated and smiled at her.

"I wasn't? Oh, like it's my fault if someone suddenly decides standing in a door is great!", she stated and pulled out her wand as well. Not sure what the boy was going to do based on him pulling his wand. "Besides who hates Halloween?", she asked spiteful.

Carter smiled softly, "It's from a Muggle program," she spoke in her soft Irish accent, "A show called Casper The Friendly Ghost, all the other ghosts are mean and like to scare people." The library ghost furrowed her brow, "Of course Muggles got it wrong." She smiled.

Grant rolled his eyes, placing the spell [autocorrect... the fuck?] and pocketing his wand. "I heard snakes where blind, now I know its true." He said with a grin before walking off back to the quad. He seen a few of his mates and jumped into a tree to hang with them... Literally. Most Quidditch players where jokers and serious with the game, he was no different.

"I know that show.", he replied with a smile and slowly walked over to her. "Of course they do.. I remember entering Hogwarts for the first time. I was so afraid of the ghosts. But once I had a nice chat with Nearless Headless Nick, I thought they were really nice unlike all of those Muggle Halloween spirits.", he randomly spoke with a smile.

"At least we don't loiter away our time hanging in trees like some bats!", she snapped and her good mood was vanished. She turned around and her blond hair waved in the wind as she walked inside. "Idiot!", she mumbled and bumped against some smaller Gryffindor's. She enjoyed how they instantly got scared while she rushed passed them.

Carter nodded, "I was never really afraid of 'em, Scottland is suppose to be a haunted country." She said to him, "I heard ghost stories sense I was a wee one." She gave a soft chuckle to his reply, "The Gray Lady is rather nice," she said with a slight shrug. The Gray Lady, Helena Ravenclaw, was daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw and now a ghost of her former self in the Ravenclaw tower. "My name is LJ Carter, you can call me Carter if you want."

Grant rolled his eyes as his mates asked him what that was about, "She just got her knickers in a twist is all." He gave a shrug looking at all the mates, "Eh, where is Chris at? He studying again?" He asked and some shrugged others nodded, he just gave a half nod watching the blonde girl stomp off. He didn't like the fear the Slytherins had on the new students.

"I only see the Grey Lady on the first few days of the school year when she comes to greet the new students. She's rather shy, isn't she?", he replied with a slight frown. "I'm Chris.. Chris Rider.", he spoke as he extended his hand and continued with a charming smile "Really nice to meet you, Carter." He had seen her in classes before but Chris had never really caught her name.

Emma walked towards the dungeons as her best mate caught up to her, who instantly recognized something was off with her. "Nothing's wrong" she spoke with an arched eyebrow before she continued to speak "Just met an idiotic Gryffindor, who thought he was something better!". She straightened her skirt and looked around. "Where's Avery and the rest?", she asked her curios wondering where the rest of her friends were. But the girl she shrugged.

Carter nodded, shaking his hand, "Yeah, she is. I can't say I blame her not everyone is nice." She admitted with a slight shrug. She knew that by example. She looked back over at the Divination section he once stood. "You looking something up for Trelawney?"

Grant didn't stay long, dinner would soon be here and he needed his potion ready by then. He didn't want a mate or anyone to judge him for having Pixie blood in his vains.

"Oh.. Umm.. No not exactly.. I was just wandering around the shelves looking for a good book to read", he replied with a shrug and continued "I'm not really a fan of divination, if I'm honest." He smiled gently at him and joked "I must not have the third eye." He chuckled and smiled gently at her while taking the seat next to her.

Emma made her way to the dungeons and the potion's classrooms. She wanted to try brewing one of the many potions, which she had read about earlier, before it was time for the feast. She said good bye to her friend and they agreed on meeting at the Great Hall later. Once inside the classroom she selected all of the ingredients, which she would need.

Carter rose a brow, "Third eye is right..." He poked the middle of his forehead, "There." She chuckled, "It's like an opening to your imagination." She moved a book to show she was in Divination. Of course she wouldn't put down his opinions. "A lot of people don't take the class seriously because of the teacher," she'd admit her grandmother was crazy.

Grant walked down, heading to the potions room when he spotted the same girl he was arguing with. He sighed taking a back table and started putting in the ingredients including a dab of his blood from his finger.

"Owww...", he complained and raised his hand covering up the middle of his forehead and continued teasing "You just blinded my third eye!". He looked down on the book, which she had been reading. "So, being a divination's fan, hm?", he asked and continued "How many times did Trelawney tell you that you'd die?". An amused smile was spreading over his lips while he waited for the answer.

Emma turned around as she heard someone enter the room. With a raised eyebrow she watched the boy from earlier taking a place in the back of the room. "Are you stalking me, now?", she asked him before turning around going back to her potion. She was one of the best in her potion's class and that wasn't because of the Slytherin bonus that Snape was giving out to his Slytherins. She got up from her seat walking to the back of the class room to get some more ingredients. She watched him adding his blood to his potion and wondered what he was brewing.

Carter furrowed her brow, "My grandmother is crazy but things people don't realize is just because she says your going to die it means in some way, not right then." She flipped her Divination book open and shows him the passage to what she meant. "She seen how Dumbledore will die, just doesn't know when."

Grant ignored her, being very focused on the potion. Once his blood was added the potion gained a fuchsia color. He bottled it before he shook it well. He had this potion down pat. "Reason why your watching?" He asked.

"Oh, umm.. Sorry, didn't know she was your grandma..", he said and felt sorry for making fun of her, now. "I mean.. She just has her ways of weirdness.. But I guess everyone has their weird moments.", he spoke before looking down at the passage, which she was showing to him. Chris tried to think of something funny to erase the awkwardness a little.

She eyed him like she was trying to figure something out for a moment. She stayed quiet and grabbed another ingredient before walking over and placing it on his table. "Add that. It should make the potion a little stronger and erase the nasty byeffect of itchiness.", she told him more gentler than before. Emma had figured out what kind of potion it was by now. Shaking her head over herself she raised her chin a little and strutted back to her potion.

Carter felt him become uneasy. "Your okay, she is weird and a little crazy." She smiled, "She means well." She wanted to show she wasn't upset with him over it. She let off a chuckle, "If it helps I'm not as crazy."

Grant looked at the ingredient before sniffing it. It tickled his nose a little. He took a pinch and shook the potion again. "Erm, thanks." He pocketed the vial hoping she thought it was for someone else. He could feel his ears burning.

He breathed out not realizing he had held it in before and nodded. "I didn't think you were crazy... I just had a weird encounter with Trelawney before...", he spoke and felt heat creeping up his cheek. He smiled back at her feeling more like himself. "So, do you have the third eye?", Chris randomly asked her, wanting to get to know her better.

She had started putting several ingredients into her caldron as he thanked her. A small smile was spreading over her lips and she nodded curtly. "No worries.", she replied while stirring her potion. By now the liquid had turned into a dark blue color. "We 'snakes' aren't as blind as some people think.", she remarked and shortly turned around to look at the Gryffindor boy. She was way nicer towards people when no one watched her or was around, who she needed to impress. She always felt the need to act up to keep the family's honor.

Carter let off a soft chuckle, "Everyone has one," of course she would know that. "Yes, I am very good at Divination but I am much better at palm reading then the crystal ball." The crystal ball was more her grandmother's thing. She took his hand and lightly went over his palm with a feather like touch. "Muggle-born." She smiled, she once thought she was, "You read many books." She said pointing to his finger tips. "Also, just because I went against you I know you play Quidditch."

Grant looked at her before he glanced at her potion, "What are you making? Smells kind of good." He said, not moving from the spot he stood at. Okay, so she knew he was hiding something. Thankfully, she had no clue what or he would never hear the end of it. "I.. I'm sorry for being rude..." He said in a question like words.

Chris chuckled and raised his eyebrow. His brown eyes lingered on her while she pointed all the things out. "All things are true...", he replied with a smile. "So, let me see what I can read out of your hand!", he spoke and took her hand in his hand staring at it intently. He waited for a few moments before he slowly began to speak "Sorry, I can't see more besides of the obvious fact that you have five fingers. Seems like your grandma is correct and I am an really old and wrinkly soul, who's blind for obvious facts." He stated the last sentence in a joking manner and started to laugh.

Emma added the last ingredient and continued stirring her potion clock-wise. "It's an aging potion.. You know one of those potions, which make you older depending on how much you take. Of course you'll go back to your actual age after some time.", she replied and finally filled some of the potion into a vial to show it to Snape later. She loved talking to him about potions and actually receiving advices to improve herself. She turned around and looked at the boy as she tried figuring out whether the potion was for him or someone else. "It's an interesting potion you've brewed there..", she spoke nodding over to his cauldron.

Carter smiled, "Okay," she pointed to her books. "Powers of observation is what Muggles use for palm reading. I enjoy reading." She showed her hand, "I never worked a day in my life indicated by my fingers and soft hands." She bit her lower lip. "Then they make stuff up about love. That's how my mom taught me."

Grant looked to his cauldron. "Halloween brings out monsters." He said with a joking shrug. "My friend needed it, she's a Mixed Blood." He told her hoping she believed him.

Chris nodded not sure if he should state his opinion about such things. He didn't want to seem impolite or rude towards things she obviously enjoyed. "So, have you already used those powers to find out questions to tests?", he asked her jokingly while he slowly let her hand go. "I prefer Transfigurations.. It's much more reliable than the future. I mean every little thing you do, crosses out possible futures of oneself. Does that make sense?", he spoke unsure.

Emma knew he lied based on his reaction earlier and the way he acted, right now. But she didn't push the topic further even though she knew that she maybe should. "Well, I guess Halloween isn't the best day for your friend.", she lamely replied with a friendly smile and looked around. She cleaned her cauldron with a flick of her wand. "Besides you should take care of who sees you brewing such stuff. Some might jump conclusions and start yelling it around in school...", she told him while labeling her vial. "Not that I am going to do that. Merlin forbid, I have better things to do. But there are people who do that.", she continued in a warning manner.

Carter laughed, "It doesn't work that way, besides I can't see the future. Palm readings aren't the future." She listened to what he had to hear, "Yes, your right. Not one thing is etched in stone but where there is death will always have death." She frowned, tapping her finger on the table. "That is the only thing etched, but who they are isn't."

Grant nodded, "Thanks for the obvious, though, to be frank... It's rather rude staring at someone who is making a potion." He pointed to where she stood when she watched, "You could have easily asked me." He gave a smile, "Now, I must go before the feast starts."

"yeah, I suppose everyone's gonna die one day or another. But what is Palm reading than? Pointing out someone's past?", Chris replied And looked at his palm of the hand for a moment. He smiled at her for a moment. "so, are you excited for the feast later?", he asked her curios.

Emma nodded curtly and simply replied "Your friend will thank me, if it won't itch all the time." She walked over to Snape's desk and placed her vial there for Snape to have a look on it later. "Well, Happy Halloween in that case.", she told him.
