overview.
the genius young boy with a promising future, a precocious, talented prodigy, jack of all trades and master of all, too. na yunseo is no stranger to such fanciful epithets, well-accustomed to the grand expectations the world has held for him since as early in life as he can remember. as pressure-laden of a childhood as it was, however, he seemed to take it all in stride without breaking a sweat; between basketball practices, piano lessons, student council, and acing his classes, yunseo's wide smile never once faltered or gave way to anxiety, a testament to his unbreakable spirit and boundless potential... ostensibly, that is. at some point along the journey, the sociable, bubbly kid who used to light up every room with his mirth morphed into a formidable presence that commands attention wherever he goes, his unflinching gaze steady and all-seeing in its scope and his dauntless, snarky words cutting, sharp as a razor. formerly energetic mannerisms gave way to frigidity in demeanor, a frightening combination of ambition and ruthlessness that could easily take the world by storm and dismantle its institutions one by one if he so pleased. lonely but never alone, talkative but never forthcoming, affectionate only off the clock, โ€” such are the mannerisms that comprise the twenty-eight-year-old na yunseo, the pioneer of a cleaner, greener future yet someone who can't quite picture himself as a happy part of it.
"oh, so now you want to be my friend? that's not what you were implying a few minutes ago when you had your fist in my face, sweetheart."
style.
flawlessly tailored suits and designer knitwear have become his second skin, simple and sleek while remaining classy and elegant. on his casual days, he opts for plush, comfortable loungewear and silk robes, or pricey athleisure wear and a cap to allow for anonymity if he plans to hit the gym.

reputation.
a dazzling superstar in the business world, yunseo became renowned during his time as an apprentice for leading research that would go on to help develop breakthrough technology on the sustainable waste management front. a frequent deliverer of ted talks at national conventions and an occasional guest on the front cover of business insider, he is familiar to all but close to none, infamous for being untouchable in every aspect. within the office, many consider him to be one honeyed, saccharine smile short of resembling the devil himself, a strict perfectionist who excels at shutting down brown-nosers and prioritizes quality over quantity when it comes to each worker's individual output. despite his intimidating demeanor, however, everyone who has worked for him, past or present, can unanimously agree on one thing: he is fair above all else, a leader who will do his best to help anyone who looks to him in earnest for guidance.

daily life.
overseeing the board. meeting potential overseas partners. solving whatever overhead problems crop up. fending off arranged marriage candidates. cooking. meditating. reading. gaming. studying languages. riding his motorbike.

ambitions.
keeping his family safe from harm. protecting the environment in any way he can. taking care of the people who trust in his leadership. turning public opinion against the current political administration.

fears.
living without lust for life or being able to enjoy the present. never truly being understood as a person on a fundamental level. being seen for the shell of a man he feels like he is. failing at the ambitions he's set out for himself and disappointing the people who support him.

aversions.
alcohol of any kind outside of cooking. strangers prying into his personal affairs. out-of-touch "apolitical" people. anyone who relies on violence to get their way.

ailments.
minor depression, treated with medication. claustrophobia. peach allergy.
hard-working
"ten, plus the fifteen from last week, plus those two... easy. i'll be done before my dinner reservation at the W."
adaptable
"so what if he pulled funding right before the shoot? just put it on my card."
observant
"you've been anxiously fiddling with your bolero tie for the last forty-two minutes... you broke another one of my vases, didn't you?"
self-assured
"why would it be difficult? it's my job."
reliable
"calm down, i know you didn't know who he was. just go back to your desk and let me handle it, okay?"
intelligent
"more than low carbon city pilots, the NEDCP projects have reduced carbon emissions and changed the trajectory of sustainability in urban areas beyond anything else we've seen come out of china..."
well-spoken
"no, no need for a bodyguardโ€” i'll just go have a quick word with him. "
even-tempered
"ha, you wanna rile me up so bad it makes you look belligerent."
honest
"the newest season? it's... pretty bad. actually, really bad. from the opening to the epilogue, it all just kind of sucks."
merciless
"if you didn't come here to improve, you should've held your tongue instead of wasting both of our lunch breaks."
picky
"oh, no, i don't eat meat before 6pm. maybe the secretary will take it, though?"
snarky
"sure, yeah, totally real leather. well worth the price, i'm sure. and i bet that's a totally real rolex on your wrist, too."
cutting
"ha... room temperature IQs, the entire lot of them. they stand for nothing at all."
judgmental
"horrible musical score, unrealistic CGI, wattpad-level writing, and stone-faced acting to top it offโ€” calling that a movie would be an insult to all movies."
fussy
"i said four bouquets in the main foyer, one for each ambassador's national flower. was that seriously too much for you to remember?"
unsympathetic
"oh, but i thought you wanted to be seen as more than a nepo hire...? life can taste bitter when the world doesn't hand you success on a silver platter. you'll be just fine if you're earnest and work hard."
sleep-deprived
"no, i'm fine, just a few more e-mails and i'll wrap up... mm... huh? when did i nod off...?"
perfectionist
"crafting each delicacy to your taste was no bother to me. quite the contrary: i find meaning in mastering the details to paint a complete masterpiece. it's something i take rather seriously."
hometown.
sillim-dong, seoul, south korea.

family.
his single mother works as an economics professor at seoul national university. his father landed himself in prison when he was in middle school and has not spoken to his kids in over a decade. his little sister, yuna, runs a boutique in the shopping district. his little brother, yunhyeong, passed away before his ninth birthday.

lodging.
a cushy, spacious penthouse nestled in the heart of gangnam's business district, a short ride away from nok-tek headquarters and towering sky-high in solitude. only a select few people have ever seen the interior of his famous suite overlooking downtown seoul, namely his mother, yuna, and dohyun. due to his inherent distrust of strangers, yunseo cleans and cooks for himself, a lone wolf both in and out of the office. though he once enjoyed keeping up with the latest music trends, the cold apartment spends most of its days shrouded in silence, unchanging and unwelcoming. there is a distinct lack of alcohol in his home, as wellโ€” yunseo does not drink, nor does he ever plan to.

upbringing.
primarily taken care of by a nanny, through which he learned to speak japanese from a young age.

university.
seoul national university. finance & software engineering major. mandarin minor.

grades.
valedictorian in high school and summa cum laude in university, so just about flawless.

company.
with a mission to revolutionize today's technology for a sustainable future in harmony with nature and over 25,000 employees under its wing, nok-tek focuses on innovating various renewable energy systems and researching new pathways, from electricity powered vehicles to hydrogen fuel cells to circular waste management. revenue is important for any conglomerate, of course, but with yunseo at the helm, it is never at the cost of the ethics upon which the company was founded, and as a result of such an unwavering workplace culture, many of his subordinates tend to stick around for a long time despite their boss' prickly character.

"it's best that he never speaks to me again. hell, it's best if he never speaks to anyone again. i hope he gets his ass beat every day that he tries to leave the threshold of his prison cell."

history.
born to a professor mother and an engineer father who had long since fallen out of love, the naturally gifted yunseo's childhood was not one woven with the affection of a stable family unit. his father was an insecure, raging alcoholic with a horrible violent streak, and his mother was rarely home between her workload at the university and her contempt towards her husband.

(tw: child abuse) as a result, yunseo and his two young siblings bore the brunt of his father's volatile temper, his mood swings sometimes resulting in broken ribs on the oldest son or purpling bruises on the younger ones if yunseo didn't make it in time to take the beatings for them. his mother remained oblivious to the abuse and he planned to keep it that way for her sake, but it reached a boiling point the week before his middle school graduation.

(tw: murder) a gambling addict for the past decade, his father had once again fumbled several grand on cryptocurrency and decided to take that anger out on the nearest person in his vicinityโ€” namely yunhyeong, who had just gotten home from basketball practice and didn't have time to register what was happening before he was beaten within an inch of his life. he was found bloodied and unconscious on the kitchen floor by yunseo once he came back from school, and he eventually succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

the previously sociable and friendly yunseo entered high school and quickly became known as an ice prince after enduring that trauma, emotionally closed off to boys and girls alike as he focused on his singular goal of appearing infallible and never allowing anyone else to have power over him. he still volunteered at the same shelter and practiced the same sports, but there was a quiet unrest to him that never seemed to fade as he got older.

upon graduating from university with full honors, yunseo was offered an apprenticeship with the ceo of a solar energy solutions company and quickly worked his way onto the board and gained the trust of his peers in the industry. after a few years of dedication to proving his worth and flaunting his innate talent for business, he succeeded his mentor and transformed the previously single-industry tech company into the sprawling conglomerate that is now known as nok-tek, a terrifying powerhouse of a ceo who fearlessly tears apart any entitled chaebol douchebags that dare to tread on his leather-clad toes.

โ€” na jia
mom, professor:
teaching him family heirloom recipes whenever she got a day off work so he could cook them for his siblings // tailoring his primary school clothes and smacking his shoulders to stop fidgeting and hold still // teaching him to drive from the earliest age he could so could look after his siblings // answering questions about the world that his teachers refused to entertain

โ€” na yuna
sister, business owner:
riding on his shoulders at street festivals so she could see all the food options // screaming at him for shamelessly hazing her potential boyfriends // sneakily cutting his hair in his sleep and getting chopped celery for breakfast as a result, even if the trim looked pretty nice // tucking her head against his chest with his hands over her ears to drown out the sounds of glass shattering and doors slamming downstairs

โ€” jeong dohyeon
longtime friend, nok-tek cmo:
late-night bickering over mundane differences and immediately forgetting about them moments later // seamlessly reading his mood and warning the office to stay out of his way so they don't agitate him further // matching his passion for sustainability in every way, to the point of becoming essential to nok-tek's prosperity // fabricating lies as needed to ward off whatever demonic pest of the week is aggressively trying to seduce his boss
