Teal, crystal clear waves crashed on cliffs of cinnamon colored rock and white sand beaches. The morning sun had just risen, and it's beautiful orange haze had covered the seaside village of Tat. Tat was a common fishing destination for anglers, but had a much deeper history. Most of Tat is inside the cliff it rests in, inhabiting the abandoned colony of Gold-Digging Ants. Markets, Taverns, Clubs, Housing, all inside of Tat, while on the outside, colorful slums cover the vibrant rocks, hobos, beggars, and bums resting on the outside.

A few days prior, a small paddle steamer, the Davis, had entered port. It carried anglers, sellswords, travelers, and the sort. Most had entered the bowels of Tat, frequenting the taverns and clubs for a day's break off see. Others chose to start on their buissness, and others more chose to prepare. Several fishermen could have been seen on the southern face of Tat, suspending their rods over the idyllic seas. Some had caught their day's quarry, large fish and amphibians strung up on small booths in an attempt to profit from their toils.

Off in the distance, around twenty minutes from the shore, was a large paddle steamer, the Bessy. Tat often had many port visits during the spring and summer months. Aboard the Bessy were an upper class comapred to the ruffians from the last ship to enter Tat. Scholars, merchants, catalogers, and salesmen stood at the ship's deck, eagerly waiting their arrival to Tat, and the possible monetary gain awaiting them. Smooth waves strucked the port and starboard of the Bessy, white sea spray striking those two leaned too far from the railing.

As the Bessy neared Tat, locals started to flood from the innards of Tat, swarming the local beggars. Stalls and markets started to open on the exterior, as with taverns and bunkhouses. Tried storekeepers began to wake, unfurling vibrant cloths for shade. On display were all matters of product. Carpets, clothing, silk, and the strong spices Responia is most popular for. Atop of the cliffs on the grasslands, stables became alive, and eager cart drivers looking to make coin began to prepare for the influx of transportation the merchants and salesman that they would surley need. In the months before this, multiple influential merchants had proposed the idea of treking through the consecutive Easux provinces, Responia to Sisoqia. Many had flocked to the idea, but few had showed up. The merchants would be arriving today, and escorts, couriers, and the other neccesary assets had been hired. Not only that, but a Grootslang wagon train waited on the verdant plains above Tat, anxious to get underway.

Cleaning her sword, Anonymos Klane stood on the outskirts of the caravan, watching the others go about their business. The gorgon saw everything through her red-tinted goggles. The sun was already rising and the sweet scent of morning was beginning to wane. She was leaning against one of the wagons, cleaning her sword. And her hair was hungry. Her hair was always hungry. She watched the ants crawling down their hill. Her attention drifting. She then swooped down and grabbed one of the meter long ants and eyed it with her snake eyes. She then tilted her head and looked directly at its beast eyes and then removed her goggles. BAM! The ant immediately turned to stone. She then crushed it between her fingers. She continued doing that. She knew it was dangerous having her eyes out in the open, but didn’t care.

Moakir had just barely woken up. He hoped finally the boat journey was at its end. He despised being aboard the vessel plagued by the nauseating rocking of the ship and nightmares of it potentially sinking. He changed into his human form and got ready for another day on the ship, however when he went above deck and looked around he noticed that the Bessy had docked. A wave of relief washed over him as he went back below and quickly gatherer his coat and cane along with his other items.
He didn't see the other merchants quite yet but he'd just wait for them on the wonderful solid ground. He made his way down the ramp and looked at the stacked buildings. He needed some time to get used to the dry land so he used his cane to aid him in walking. He stayed on the boardwalk though not quite willing to fully venture in the towns, but he did visually scan it for places of interest. Glancing over various selling stands each offering to sell something else from fishing poles to spears. Above the towns he thought he might have even glimpsed the beast that was supposed to be pulling the wagons they'd travel in.

Southern Kolabia was still pretty new to the Empire based in Gyensar-Tsun, the Emperor on behalf of his cabinet had issued a decree of exploration to the regions those in the capital and the other cities had little to no knowledge of. Before this the army was tasked with eliminating bandit threats as they expanded their reach. The roads were now safe thanks to Jin's uncle who worked in the Ministry of War. But beyond that were remote colonies of monks, tribes, and sentient beasts. In order to prevent as much minimal casualties as possible, the Ministry of War created the Army Scouts, to discover the areas unknown to civilization, except the merchants and couriers who only had tales of the areas. They were given a map of Kolabia, had their kepi's removed, and survival gear since they would be away from the nearest base.

In 1822, the army had secured the roads leading to Responia. In fact most of the south had seen colonization from the Empire, though their have been a few mishaps between some of the local tribes and the imperials. The reason why Jin became a scout in the first place was because her company was tasked to raze a town of tribals who were harassing the settlers. It was the first act of heinousness she had committed while serving.

Since then she's been more independent. Before she had to follow her captain everywhere, but now she had her own squad to her name and could practically go anywhere she wanted. It was nice seeing the forests, falls, and rivers. It was like being in a whole new world.

Jin and her scout team have been trekking through a thick forest all night, they made camp under the trees. Jin woke up an hour earlier was on sentry duty already in uniform. Her sergeant who was already in his undergarments approached her. "Ma'am the boys are still trying to shake off their fatigue should we wait til they've ate breakfast?"

"Look after them sergeant, I'm gonna go alone." Jin said looking to the horizon.

"With all due respect ma'am, there are no friendly's in the area. It was fine when you went on ahead before but now we don't know what's waiting for us in this forest."

"Your concerns are noted sergeant, if I'm not back in an hour you can head back to the nearest base and report to Col. Takashu."

"Yes ma'am." the sergeant sighed knowing he can't go against her orders or her stubbornness for that matter.

Jin checked her ammo and her rifle and set off alone into the forest.

As Jin treaded forward she noticed the flora change and the terrain was more or less slanting. She checked her rifle to make sure it was loaded one more time, for she felt she was being watched.

Hardun had already woken up and in fact wasn’t located on the ship for he had felt hungry forcing him to wake up much earlier than he usually did and what else to eat than some fresh fish, literally. Hardun had jumped off the ship having left most of his clothing back on his quarters in order to hunt the fish. Once the Bessy had arrived Hardun had already caught up with the ship, soaked in water and holding large fish with his left hand and his mouth. He quickly climbed back up to the ship’s starboard making sure he wouldn’t cause much noise for anyone who was still sleeping. Before arriving to the deck he had already begun eating the fish he had been holding in his mouth spitting out it’s bones as he did. He headed out to his quarters to get himself dry and to grab his stuff as they had already arrived. Not long after Hardun exited his room, being completely dry and having finished eating all of the fish he had gathered. He always enjoyed the taste of raw meat, but never minded the taste of cooked. He put the bones of the fish inside of his bag of holding just in case someone might be interested in it, though he doubted that, but it never hurt to bring some, you never knew who was out there. He walked out of the ship looking at other merchants leave and already beginning to prepare shop while others just stood around and waited for something to happen. Out of those standing around he saw Warren, a merchant that sells all types of oils, especially snake oils. He walked up to him and tapped his back. “Warren, good to see you’re awake and ready, did you get a good night sleep? Because I sure as hell didn’t, after I suddenly got hungry I decided to go and hunt for some fish near the ship. Well, did you get everything, because it'd be a shame if we suddenly forgot anything of value inside the ship.” Hardun said with a smile on his face and standing next to Warren waiting for other merchants to arrive.

The forest glittered with an unseen magic, the grass exceptionally lively and animals freely roaming with no fear of the soldier. It was a very beautiful sight, untouched by civilization.
The birds twittering happily and other animals scurrying out of sight. Though something glimmering caught her eye, something that did not blend with the green luster of the forest. Something bright and glowing blue. A figure slowly approaching her, staring her in the eyes. A mythical beast only told of in legend, extremely rare and said to grant incredible luck to anyone who sees it. A Kirin. A being of purity and goodness.

Jin felt nothing but shock as she saw the Kirin glisten before her. Her mind went blank for no one had seen a Kirin in Kolabia for thousands of years. The bright blue glow emanating from the majestic creature was blinding. None of the sights and beasts she'd seen prepared her for this sort of encounter, if anything this was right under seeing Orai himself. Her knees wobbled that she collapsed on them and only stared at it for what felt like an eternity. Finally she spoke to it.
"You...You're a Kirin?" she asked to ensure she wasn't in a dream.

She scoffed, rolling her eyes. "You see me here and that's all you say? Of course i'm a Kirin." She huffed, head held high. Walking to her, "And you are intruding in my forest." Kagome began to pace around her, her hoof steps no where in sight as even the grass was not disturbed my her presence. "You're very lucky you're at least good, any other foolish mortal would probably be dead by now for trespassing." She looked down at her, narrowing her eyes. "Why are you here anyway? In such garb I'd suspect a soldier of some sort."

In all honesty, Jin didn't expect a living deity to behave in such a way. But she went along with it. "Uhh, I'm with the Imperial Army of Kolabia. I was sent here to explore this area. I wasn't sure that anyone was residing here." she said as she stood up while Kagome paced. "You should understand that where I'm from we've never come across your kind in thousands of years. So this is sort of a big deal for me miss..." she said searching for a name and sounding more informal.

Kaijin managed his catoblepas, Gakou, up by the stables. He scrutinized the skin and hide for any grease or oil building up, and scrubbed it off with a coarse brush. Fine wired hairs slid across the tough carapace and it's grooves, cleaning out any grime or dirt. He shook the wired brush and discarded it to the grass. He grabbed a much more soft brush, coarse fibers covering it's surface. He tipped the brush into a pail of soap and water, and began to scrub the beast's hide, cleaning off any more fine materials that the wired brush was unable to do. He frequented the soap and water bucket, constantly dipping the brush in and out of the pail, soapsuds and water flying around as he did so.

Eventually, Gakou was fully clean, and the daily trail was done, somehow, he had cleaned a catoblepas. Of course, nothing could have been done about the foul odor the creature breathed, but Kaijin had grown accustomed to this smell. It was just a smell of everyday life. But, there was a new scent that entered Kaijin's senses, something distinct, and powerful. It irritated him, he scowled as it entered his nostrils.

"I'd prefer the smell of rotting flesh and feces, eugh"

complained Kaijin outloud to no one in particular. He knew well what the smell was, another troll, a scent only trolls could smell. It smelled putrid. It smelled rancid. It smelled terrible. He left where he was sitting by Gakou, at this point suds and water flowing off of their carapace and hide, and walked to the edge of the cliff.

Kaijin scanned the newly docked Bessy but didn't see any other trolls. But, just to be sure, he began to bellow lowly, a sound inaudible to other species. To others, it just sounded like a quiet and soft grunt, but to trolls, it was loud, a loud and deep bellow. An aggressive one.

Nameless turned toward the troll, raising an eyebrow. “Do you normally talk to yourssself?”
she wasn’t looking directly at the oni but at the stone ant between her fingers. She then sighed and put her goggles on. “It’sss been two dayssss! I hope that sssship docking has our caravan because I’m sssstarting to get bored.”

For a moment Moakir didn't know who was speaking to him until he turned to face Hardun, he knew the man as a hunter. It seemed he'd been hunting recently he smelled fish on in... Not the cooked sort though but he wouldn't question him. "Nice to see you're awake though Hardun." He sighed "But no I hardly slept on that ship, I am grateful we're finally off the damned thing. I'm certain I have all my belongings as well."
Warren wasn't lying he looked like he was some form of undead rather than a man.
Then he heard it a loud guttural roar from atop the cliff near where their wagons were supposed to be. He flinched briefly then stood his ground, hairs standing up and every fiber of his being urged him to get back on the boat. He snapped out of it, like hell was he getting back on that thing. "Did you, did you hear that Hardun?" He felt irritated and he couldn't quite place a finger on it but it was like something rotten was intruding his nose. He made his own irritated grumbling sound, to any nearby troll it wouldn't sound hostile but it was quite the annoyed chuffing sound.

"An army..." She huffed, "Just what I need invading my forest. To what extent? So you can cut down my trees and poach my animals!" She growled a bit, walking towards her and glaring her in the eye. Glowing runes just visible on her antlers at this distance, her third horn clean and white with winding grooves from the bottom to the tip. "Of course mortals haven't seen one such as I for so long. We don't actively seek out others, we prefer to be on our own in our woods." She huffed, snapping her head up and turning away. "And why should I give a pitiful mortal such as yourself my name? Names hold power you know." She began to walk away. "Leave and keep your armies from my wood or else." She hissed.

“Well, good thing I’m not the only one that couldn’t sleep on that thing.” Hardun giggled a bit enjoying the view of the place and glancing over some of the shops that some merchants of the area were preparing.

As he looked around he noticed Warren suddenly get all tensed up with his hair going up, as if he had just noticed something dangerous. As Warren asked him a question Hardun gave him a look of confusion. “Are you alright buddy? Only thing I hear around here is the chatter of people, especially those trying to advertise their products. Perhaps you are hearing things due to lack of sleep. Well, we should maybe stay here in the meantime, maybe you can rest a bit more before we head to the caravans”

Kaijin scowled, and before walking away, released a much more loud roar towards the direction he heard the chuffing coming from. It would have been much more clear to spectators, but not at the volume it truly was. He snarled before turning away.

"It's another troll, they reek like the devil." Spat Kaijin.

He walked back to the catoblepas and fastened up the saddle, it was near the back because the shoulders and neck were covered in keratinous spines. A bedroll was stored behind the seat, and a few bags were tied on by some hooks on the panel. It took a while to maneuver the bridle into position with Gakou's tusks, but in the end, the bridle made it to it's place.

"I saw some merchants for sure, it's the caravan."

“Perfect!”
Nameless smiled, swirling her blade absentmindedly.
“Wonder what they will think once they sssee us?? We aren’t exactly what you expect.”
Nameless noticed the oni’s foul mood but choose not to mention it. Don’t piss off trolls. That’s what her mother said multiple times. Besides she was the cautious type. She turned her attention to Bessy, noticing that they were in fact merchants pilfering about. She tenses.

At first he thought it could be the lack of sleep but the second roar made his entire body tense. He decided responding to such calls was beneath him, but the location still worried him... He'd probably see who was making that sound eventually. "Yes I suppose I'm... just tired that's all." The man rubbed his eyes. But he knew what he heard. "Yes for now we can just look at the town from a distance, maybe I'll see if there's any drink I could start my morning with." He looked at the stalls to see if any might have steam coming out or the smell that would come from tea.

The soft scratching sound of a dip pen meeting coarse paper was drowned out by the gentle woosh of the crashing waves beneath the cliffs of Tat. The pen moved skillfully here and there, lines forming a light sketch of a weirdly shaped cart attached to a tail. Arrows were crisscrossed in various places, pointing to and lifting different parts of the cart into focus, with tiny scribbles filling the margins of the leather book in Arath'Amaris' hand. She eyed the cart in question, squatting to get a better look at the wheels, noting where each bolt was as she moved around it. It was the very last one in the line of wagons that were dragged by the giant Grootslag she had yet to try to properly approach since she'd arrived at Tat yesterday morning -- the one she'd man and sell out of throughout this trip. She'd lie if she said she wasn't fascinated at the mechanisms behind it all, as each cart was configured just slightly different, having already gone through half a journal to make blueprint after blueprint. It'd taken more time than she bargained for as day turned into night and night turned into day again. Not that she could complain.

She was supposed to have arrived even earlier, so she could prepare for the upkeep of the gigantic contraption that was their caravan's ride, but asking a vixen to travel between Ospua and Responia on such short notice was not the smartest of moves. Argyros, her pet lynx, could attest to that as he slumbered nearby, his ears twitching whenever anyone passed by her stash of belongings that he was guarding. A few petty thieves and a beggar or two had more than their fair share of oozing wounds by now, and yet still others tried to snatch some of the wares. The poor creature was exhausted from their travels as Arath'Amaris had taken the chance to shift and run for the last stretch of land as she approached the port town, knowing that it'd be awhile to come before she had the chance again.

Could she had taken the ferry?

Yes.

Did she?

No.

Why?

Because it'd be a shame not to take the long way around to see what trinkets she could find. Alas, she was paying the price for her decision as she finished up her sketch, eyes shifting from her work to her surroundings as a loud roar ripped through the air. Amaris had noticed the peculiar troll as he strolled in earlier that morning, an hour or so before sunrise. She knew danger when she saw it, and kept away, far too busy with her work anyways. Now, though, it seemed that danger was seeking company and she pondered if she'd stay around to see it all unfold, or take the chance to go down to one of the inns and change attire. Her clothes, if the soft chiffon pelos dress could be called that, were in tatters after her recent travels. The decision though was taken out of her hands as Argyros jumped up from his sleep, letting out a soft rumble of his own.

"Down, Argyros,"She hissed, casting a glance at the troll. She cocked her head to the side.

Decisions, decisions...

Lifting the corner of her lips to a tentative smile, she waved apologetically to the troll. "Sorry for that, I'm afraid my pet doesn't know any better."

Nameless or Anonymos as some people called her eyed the random person and her pet as she approached, her hand on her sword.
She slithered up to the woman and her pet, being careful not to spook the pet.

"And you are?" She hissed.
Don't know her. She could be a threat.

The Empress of Ice The Empress of Ice

Kaijin exhaled sharply though his nostrils, and for a moment, his face wrinkled.

"It's... fine." He growled.

He shot a glance at the lynx, and after realizing that he could easily kill it if need be, relaxed.

"I'm sorry, there's some scent out there. Don't like it."

His face softened and he scratched the back of his head.

Anonymos relaxed the moment the troll relaxed, releasing her hand away from her sword. If the troll wasn't bothered, then it wasn't much of a threat.

"Again." She said much more softly, "who exactly are you?"

"It's all good, just startled Argyros here a bit."

Amaris took in the troll's behavior, petting Argyros almost absentmindedly as yet another threat popped into her radar, her gaze drifting down to the sword in the gorgons hand. There was a ghost of a smile on her face as she looked at the woman. A gorgon wasn't exactly company she usually kept and she didn't care much for it either. In fact, Argyros didn't even react to the creature, instead bounding back off to his master's stash of belongings. Her posture relaxed and comfortable, Amaris switched from one leg to another as the young woman didn't let her catch her breath before repeating her question.

"The name is Arath'Amaris, but Amaris is just fine," She entertained the girl, "I've been hired to keep all the screws in place."

She languidly gestured to the carts connected to the Grootslag.

"Mind telling me who you are?," She continued, an eyebrow raised. Despite her amusement, she did not quite appreciate the inquisitive act and made it clear in her tone.

It was a pretty interesting experience meeting a deity, not one she expected for that matter. But it was interesting nonetheless. She turned away from the majestic forest back to her squad, she looked at her pocket watch and she had but 40 minutes to return to her squad, that being more than enough time, she saw their encampment in view and ran up to the squad who waved her down. "Did you find anything?" the sergeant asked. Jin took a deep breath for she knew what she was about to say, her comrades would never believe. "I ran into a Kirin."

Her squad members looked at her shockingly. "I know." she said before they could usher a word. "We have to report this to the colonel." the sergeant said. Jin paused for a moment. She thought of the last time the attack by the Pawanay tribe, they're still wandering as far she knows. Are they gonna send a battalion full of kids from the capital to burn a forest and shoot an animal they never thought existed. But it wasn't like they had a choice.

Jin and her squad made it back to the fort and she made it to her superior's office. "Col. Takashu."

"Jin. Sorry I couldn't reach you sooner. There's been a new order from the Ministry."

"That being?"

"Since the issue with the Pawanay, the empire has ceased expansion efforts and stuck to patrol and defense patterns. All the officers involved were dishonorably discharged for not informing the Ministry of their decision."

Jin sighed with relief and felt she dodged a huge bullet.

"So for now I need you on patrol along the border." the colonel continued

"Yes sir. Thank you sir."

Anonymos smirked at the woman’s clear agitation, taking a moment to savor it.

“My name? Technically I have no name.” She hissed absentmindedly, swirling her sword casually. “You can call me Namelesssss. Or just Klane. But mossssstly Nameless.” She cocked her head to the side, grabbed her goggles and slip them off slightly, giving the woman a wink with her true gaze, looking a little past her pupils. She slapped the goggles back on. “I hope we get to know each other a little better as thisss journey sssstartsss”. who was she kidding she was a gorgon, she was just another humanoid who most likely didn’t care for her kind. She stopped caring a long time ago.
