Doctor Professor
I’ve lived in these woods all my life as an only child to my diligent father so when he died it only seemed right that I take over his job as the local forester. For the past five years I’ve been tending to the forest, watching over it, restoring it where necessary, collecting my own timber, etc. It’s a boring and kinda lonely job but I’m used to it at this point. A lot of the people in the town are always questioning it though and I can’t really blame them. I had the best grade in my highschool and got plenty of academic scholarships so everyone always asks me why I’m not chasing my dreams in some city and it is tempting but I couldn't see myself doing anything other than this. I live in a small, dull, one story cabin near a dirt road, which only accessible down by the lake, but it’s still hidden in all the trees so it’s hard to find. I don’t like going into town to often because in the past few years I became used to being alone so now it’s weird to see people, but I do miss being able to go to the library.
I remember meeting you sometime during the summer, well we didn’t really get to meet, at least not formally. I also remember hearing you came from the city and I wasn’t sure what to think about you, you seemed odd to me but not really in a bad way. Of course I didn't approach you although I wanted to, later I asked one of my dad's old friends if he knew who you were, which wouldn't have been surprising considering the population is about 230 or soomething, but no luck. I wanted to know who you were but later I decided maybe it was best for me to forget about you, I just kept telling myself that a girl like you wouldn't be interested in me anyhow and I was probably just over excited to see a new face anyways but still I thought of you.
It was the night of a really bad storm and it wasn't like the usual rain that was always haunting us. It was pouring hard and the wind was much stronger than I'd seen all year. These types of things used to scare me but not any more. I sealed my cabin up and made sure no water was leaking anywhere while I was getting ready to go to bed, although I'd probably won't be sleeping that good tonight. I tried to think of anything else I was supposed to take care tonight and nothing came to mind, I was just about to head for my bed when I heard an odd sound at the door. It kinds sounded like a loud scratch so I decided to investigate it even though it was probably nothing. When I opened the door I saw that the wind was blowing west so thankfully I wasn't bombarded with rain. I scanned the porch and discovered I was right and the sound was nothing, turns out a rogue branch had flown into my door causing the sound. I was about to turn around and close the door behind me when I noticed, there was something on the corner of the road. I stared at it for a moment because at first I couldn't tell what it was, it was too dark out, I just saw that it looked off. I continued to inspect what it was when I finally realized, my eyes went wide with fear, it was a person lying face down. Without putting any thought into it I rushed over, barefoot, to the side of the road where they were lying and checked to see if they were conscious and as I did that I realized it was you. You didn't respond to me but you were really hot, I figured you must have passed out from the fever but I couldn't figure out what you were doing out here to begin with. I didn't have a car so I couldn't take you back into the town, at least not in this weather. Not knowing what else to do I lifted you up using my shoulder to support you, I brought you into my cabin. I didn't have a landline just a regular cell phone and of course I wasn't getting any reception right now, perfect. I laid you down on my bed and heard you mumble something but I couldn't make out what you were saying. You were soaking wet and I knew I couldn't just leave you like that, I took your shirt off so I could let it dry in the kitchen. I didn't bother trying to take your pants off, it seemed like it be going too far even though we're both girls. I just dried you off the best I could with a towel then threw a blanket over you and hoped your fever wouldn't get any worse. While I was at it I decided to start a fire since it was getting a little too cold inside. I stayed up a bit later to watch over you and the fire, the storm wasn't letting up so eventually I just decided I should go to sleep too. I laid down on the spare couch in the den, I was still worried about you but at this point all I could do was wait to see if you'd be okay. I closed my eyes and tried to sleep through the storm.
