Excellent question, and thank you for your interest! 
So originally, there had been champions selected for both schools in canon, but as characters become obsolete, what we're doing is eliminating them from the tournament (like they break a major rule or law and get disqualified, or in one case, someone got killed off), or they choose to step down because the pressure of their role gets to them. If you were to join the RP, your character most likely would have been initially selected as a secondary who fills in for the previous champion when some extenuating circumstances happen. Raphael was the former champion of Beauxbatons, and although his RPer has been gone for a while now, he's notoriously irresponsible and we decided that he'd most likely not show up to the first challenge and get demoted by their school's hella strict professor. Lisandro was the former champion of Castelobruxo, and he's really high anxiety and has crippling self-esteem issues, so personally I think it would make sense if he voluntarily resigned from the tournament. Either way, we would find a reason for an OC entirely of your creation to join the party! No need to feel like you have to tailor a character to the role.
