The year was 1812.
The clouds were enriched in a permanent greyness, the skies, hoary and empty. When night approached, the ceiling of the earth was starblown and cloaked in an immense darkness as if the entire universe had been drained of its very life source..
On one night, crested deep into a forest, a meteor fell. A ball of fire, serene and otherworldly yet with something of its own implacability, zooming headfirst into the middle ground of the cottonwoods. Animals fled the lands in terror and the small insects, unknown to any eye, perished and burned under this ball of fire.
Inside of this meteor, a small, thick, pointing flesh thing slowly poked out and shriveled it's way upon the ground. Upon feeling the grass, it's structure became flat and the top of it immediately adopted the green grass. A squirrel passed by, unknowing, and almost instantly, the roots took hold of the small being. It gripped its legs and then wrapped itself around the small critters body. The small thing desperately fought and squeaked, before, snake-like, the roots crushed the squirrels body and felt the blood slowly spill out of it. The roots then pushed themselves into the squirrels eyes and mouth, exploring its insides and removing it of its organs as it took its skinless, boneless body back to the meteor.
The roots engrossed itself in the earth around it, wrapping around trees and embodying the bark feeling. The meteor itself began to slowly push itself inside the earth, until it was underneath the ground itself.

The year was now 1968.
Angela Owens awoke with a grumble, her eyes peering upwards. The cabin ceiling stared at her back and she didn't like it. She sat up and stretched, feeling her spine crackle. She turned to her watch and checked. It was 11:23. Way too late.
She sat up and felt her feet touch the wood underneath her. She let out a loud groan. She and another partner had been assigned to head into this strange forest area and take accounts of anything unusual. Apparently this specific spot was known for its strange, unusual occurrences. She rubbed her eyes and sighed. 'Unusual.' she thought to herself.
She stood up and went to the bathroom, washing her face and freshening up. She then paused to stare at herself in the mirror.
People had always been extremely disgusted by her short hair, but she honestly liked it. Saved having the wind fly the hair into her face. She smiled at herself.
Angela stretched one final time, before walking out into the main hallway and knocking repeatedly against her partners door.
"Hey! Wake up!"
