Basically he is in retirement and only comes out of it due to the posibility of a big score that could put him way ahead in terms of power and wealth in the guild.
He is known as the conveyer of any strange artifact you can think of, that is where he made most of his money.
so you can see why a team of non-mortals would be very intriguing to him...and almost a necessity.
