Wigless

[Date… April 5th…..
Location… Leicester]

2 days after the fall of London. The southern vampire invasion slowly but surely moves upwards.

“We will rise back up, no matter what it takes.”

Bold statements, busy streets and surreal promises. Nothing was enough to silence the loss. The war always had its ups and downs but never had the ERA experienced such significant loss. Thousands of needless, senseless casualties all fighting a battle they could not win. The reason why they had been forced to keep fighting? Perhaps the stubborn yet beloved General’s command, or maybe there was just not enough time for everyone to run. Only one thing was certain,

this wouldn’t be the end.

[Date… April 7th. . . . .
Location… Leicester]

Retaliation was quick to come.

Today would become a day of action, the start of a desperate attempt at survival. All eyes were on the extermination unit while they marched out of the city gates and arose from the extreme silence in the iconic black helicopters. It almost seemed as if the citizens were already mourning for the soldiers. Hope was quite clearly missing, and it was up to the company to create even the slightest spark.

Between the adult bundle of men and women in uniform hid a small group of squads that had never truly experienced a battle. Mere simulations were as far as they had gotten and, if they were lucky, perhaps a stray horseman of John would have crossed their path. Battle Experience was close to non-existent, but that didn’t matter to anyone right now. They were needed, even if it would cost them their own lives. That’s why a small amount of those helicopters carried youngsters, former Leicester’s Military Academy students, into the air, some of which might never enjoy their enclosed home ever again.

Each of those helicopters would eventually find themselves listening to the unnaturally cheerful and calm voice of captain Elise Atwood, leader of the only squad with actual adults that fell under the youthful company.

[Time… 9:54 AM. . . . . . . . . . . .
Location… Squad B Helicopter]

“Alright everyone, I hope you’ve all prepared yourselves because it won’t be long until you’ll land.” Quick pulses of annoying static created an atonal composition that occasionally overthrew the confident voice, but it wasn’t powerful enough to make her shut up. “Anyway, You’ve all been informed about the fun details, so I won’t get to pester you much longer sadly.” a small chuckle would follow up, weaving in with a quick cough before the woman spoke up once again. This time, in a more serious tone. “All jokes aside, we’re headed into a complete shitshow. Your missions will be harder than any simulation, but I’m confident that you can handle it. Make us proud, kiddos.” And with that, the message came to an end, only to be replaced by the pilot’s voice.

“We’re landing in 3 minutes. Get ready.”

[Time… 9:59. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Location… Arriving in Oxford]

It was rather difficult for the pilot to actually find a spot to land. Oxford had quite clearly seen much better days. What was once a prosperous city had now degraded to nothing but abandoned ruins. Some of those ruins, however, had become a temporary shelter for humans in desperate need of aid.

The fall of London had caused for a death count beyond imaginable. It was a pure bloodbath, but some luckily found a chance to escape. Several groups managed to fight their way out, only to be stranded in the formerly blooming city. To make matters worse, their leave had not gone as unnoticed as they had hoped. They were being hunted on as a result. Preyed on by the monsters from their worst nightmares. Monsters with a thirst for blood.

“Time to go. Best of luck to you all.” the man behind the controls spoke up once more before two doors slid open on either side of the helicopter. The aircraft hadn’t actually landed, instead of hovering roughly a meter above the broken concrete and pavement beneath them.

Those that would step or rather jump out of the vehicle would be greeted with an almost stereotypical view of a worn down city. The few buildings that were still standing looked so unstable they could fall down any moment, just to accompany all the rubble and fallen objects scattered around the roads. Nature had started to claim dominance once again, causing patches of moss and grass to sprout out all over. It most definitely wasn’t the prettiest picture, although some might appreciate the post-apocalyptic setting.

Once everyone would’ve left the aircraft, they would quickly find the large piece of metal quickly escaping the clutches of the silent city. They were now alone, and asking for help would prove to become a difficult task. It was now time to officially start the mission. Time to search for survivors.

[Mission Details (All members would’ve been informed about these beforehand):
1: Find and safely retrieve as many human survivors.
2: Eliminate any common vampires.

Both Squad B and D (npcs, more information can be found in the lore) will be dropped off in the city, but work independently. Squad B will be starting their search in the north, while D will begin south. Both Squad Leaders and Second-in-commands have access to an intercom that is only to be used to request an aircraft. The squads also have access to flares in case they require help from one another.]

Res looked around the area of Oxford, cracking his neck as he held his sword in his hand. He knew the mission along with basic details of what they were going into. After deciding that they were somewhat safe for the time being, he pulled a small book from his jacket pocket and opened it. “Hey Allocer, what do you think of all of this?” He said casually, not really giving it much thought. “I honestly don’t care. As long as we get to kill stuff.” She said in a monotonous tone as she materialized over his shoulder resting her head on it. “Ew. You always pick the most boring books. Why not get a book on 18th century torture methods. Oooh those were the times.” She said as a smile crept across her face. A look of disgust came across his as he rolled his eyes. “You’ve always been a weird one. A sadist isn’t the worst of the things I’ve thought you were.” He said as he closed his book and put it back in his pocket.

Helicopters.

Between the whirling blades and buckling chassis of the helicopter, Ciara could barely think, let alone speak. It was a bit of an embarrassing confession to make as a soldier, but motion sickness was a weakness of hers. Then again, though she wasn't clad in her usual provocative dress, her lack of a 'warrior's pride' was as evident as ever, discarding the thought not long after she and her squad made touchdown.

Hehe. Her squad. She might not have gotten the apex roll, but being second only to one other person in the hierarchy definitely felt good. Especially when regarding the rampant quality of their gear when compared to hers.

Deep in her subconscious, Alberta voiced some level of offense.

Mute!

Now wasn't the time to be listening to the old hag's nagging. Today was their big day! Out in the field, rescuing the weak and defeating evil like the knights of old. Well, that wasn't entirely accurate, but it was only natural to do things like blend history and fantasy. Especially in times like these, where vampires ruled the world and monsters roamed the streets. Today they'd be Arthurian knights, a mission of pure heroism in their hearts and a great iron dragon on standby to sweep them into the sunset. She could practically already see the tapestry.

"Right, then!" Her squad definitely wasn't the most socially attuned, so Ciara didn't take long to make the decision to get the snowball of conversation rolling herself. "Are you guys excited? First day in the field~ Fresh out of the Academy! It's even one as noble as search and rescue. You boys looking forward to sweeping a princess up in your arms and carrying her off into the sunset?" As ever, Ciara's speech was accompanied by a surplus of animation. Wild gestures and appropriate poses both in great supply. Though, despite the exaggeration of the act, Ciara was as genuine as ever. Mocking their 'pure heroism' would definitely be unbecoming of her.

"Personally I am eager and ex-cit-ed. What do you think, Leader Eliot? Ready to go charging in?"

A lot of people would've probably enjoyed a helicopter ride. Perhaps not in these circumstances, but the thought of simply doing so excited some. Elliot, however, didn't find it exciting at all. It wasn't motion sickness he was suffering from, it was an inner fear that he would never admit or vocalize. That didn't make it go away though because every time his mind would process the idea that he was high up into the air, his heart started going a bit faster than it usually would.

He was pretty much terrified.

Luckily, the horrified squad leader was moderately talented in concealing his own fears by just focusing on absolutely everything that distracted him for even a split second. Hearing the voice of the captain and pilot helped, although their words weren't exactly motivating or settling in any way. To top it off, slight nerves overthrew the usually confident boy. He was more or less in charge, meaning that any mistakes would be indirectly his fault. Gazing from left to right, Elliot offered a concerned look upon thinking about the slightly more.. reckless members. He would probably have to be strict and, just for today, attempt to not let his temper get the better of him.

A quick thud announced Elliot's feet finally hitting solid ground again. The short boy released a sigh of relief before his eyes moved upwards, finally noticing the awful state his surroundings were in. He had expected it to be moderately worn down, but this was beyond what his imagination was capable of picturing. Before he could vocalize his perceptions, however, he would already find himself listening to the all too familiar voice of the second-in-command.

The cheery attitude and cheeky jokes were not all that appreciated by the now slightly agitated leader. They were technically in vampire territory, so speaking up as if there was seemingly nothing to worry about felt slightly out of place. For a short while, the novice 'sergeant' decided to simply ignore it and instead spent his time gazing around to see where they should go. When he was personally mentioned, however, he had no other choice. Before speaking up, Elliot gave Ciara a glimpse of his signature death glare that could singlehandedly show more emotions than any word he could possibly say. strict, he thought to himself, try to be strict.

Elliot released a loud sigh, "You talk and move too much. We might as well just surrender if you're going to keep that up, Co-leader Ciara." he replied, speaking in a somewhat cold yet taunting tone of voice. He couldn't help but smile slightly, showing a glimpse of enjoyment in this dire situation. Quickly forcing himself back into the artificial 'mature mode', Elliot quickly got to the point.

After hissing at someone for speaking, the extremely self-critical boy came up with the great idea to speak up a bit louder. It was unavoidable though since he needed everyone to listen. "Alright everyone, we should start moving quickly in case anyone noticed the helicopter. Just try to stay alert since those bloodsuckers can be literally anywhere. Also," Elliot's eyes moved past a couple of the more individualistic members while he took a minor pause, eventually stating his mind. "We are not splitting up. I'd prefer to keep everyone alive for at least the first mission." that last part was added somewhat forcefully, simply an attempt to seem 'cool' and 'uncaring' despite knowing all too well he would shed plenty of manly tears if anyone happened to vanish in battle. Emotions weren't very ideal in the heat of battle, though.

Utilizing his awful perfect sense of direction, Elliot quickly pointed the small key-like object in his left hand into the right way of the crossroad they were currently standing in the middle of. "We're going in that direction, stay close to one another, please." And with that, Elliot would attempt to start their marathon through Oxford, already hoping that they would find the group of humans. It was also fair to mention that he wanted to do better than the other squad, simply to piss off their leader.
Anyway, Elliot was already bravely moving forward along the street he had pointed at, just hoping that his team would actually follow. He would obviously look behind himself regularly, though, just to see if they would.

Res’ attention was drawn to Elliot as he made the comment about someone dying. A small “Pft” escapes his as he grabbed his sword from the helicopter after climbing out and clipping it to his belt. He looked around at his squad, studying each of their possible attributes and weapons. “Hm. Not a bad setup we’ve got here, leader. We might just survive!” He said sarcastically, causing Allocer to snicker and offer a fist bump. He graciously obliged and they both chuckled together. As soon as the moment was over, his steely exterior returned and his hand rested on the handle of his sword. “Is it bad that I hope to run into something? I was hoping to scope out your new friends here, see if I really chose a competent host.” Allocer said smiling as she hovered around Res. She cackled mildly before dissipating into dust. Res sighed quietly and shook his head. “I was thinking the same thing.” He said quietly looking around before his eyes rested on Ciara. He looked her up and down just as he had the rest of the squad. “Hm. She’s interesting.” He said quietly to himself

Connor made his way from the helicopter and took up a sentry position as the rest of the team gathered together. His eyes scanned the overgrown and deserted streets with a sharp look. His grip around his sword, Crimson, grew tighter and tighter by the second as the helicopters began to gain distance from them until finally only the silence of the city surrounded them. He could feel Crimsons power pulse through his body and sensed his eagerness for action. Connor somewhat shared in the feeling, but his mind was focused on their surroundings as he looked for anything that could be potentially dangerous. He soon turned towards Ciara as she began to speak and arched an eyebrow at her cheerfulness. Connor didn't mind it much, it would actually be good for someone to have an positive outlook in this mission. He just hoped her positivity wouldn't distract her from the reality that they were now in a red zone. He kept silent though and just hid his slight amusement behind his expressionless face.

Soon Elliot spoke up and gave the order to move out. Though Connor frowned slightly as he stated they were to stay together. It was an alright game plan, but Connor thought it would be better to have a scout of two head up ahead of the group to make sure the streets were clear. As Elliot began to move on Connor quickly made his way to his side and kept his eyes moving along their surroundings. "Sir, I would agree that staying together is a smart strategy, but maybe we should send someone up to scout our path to make sure the way is clear. We are in enemy territory so we never know what they have planned for us. I would gladly take up the job if need be," he finished and glanced over to his leader before remembering his position in the squad. "Of course that is only my opinion, sir," he stated as he let his eyes once again scan their surroundings as they marched on.
