Baetroclus
Who died for his baechilles
It happened at a party
Dante's Divine Comedy is anything but comedic, and the reason for such a title is brought up every year when it's taught at the local high school. The teachers brush it off, or give answers depending on who's doing the teaching, as something that doesn't matter. What matters is the plot. Dante, lead by the poet Virgil, travels through the 9 rings of hell, crawls on his stomach through purgatory, and finally reaches paradise.
Your school only focuses on hell.
The sins which Dante describe goes as follows. There is limbo, where those virtuous souls wander whose only sin is that they were not baptized. Then there is the realm of the lustful, for those whose sins arose from their libidos. Next is the gluttonous, those people who took more than what was due to them, much like those convicted to ring 4 for their Avarice, or greed for the material. Then there are the Angry, and those sent to hell for their heresy, or their refusal to adhere to the Christian faith. Finally, there is the Violent whose crimes don't just include violence to others, but violence towards themselves, nature and God. The last two rings consist of several different kinds of sins, as nothing is just black or white. For example a homosexual, whose sexuality is an act of violence against God, may still be sent to the second ring for their lustfulness. The intricacies of the whole thing is certainly worth some thought for a senior class ready to make their own lives in college.
Senior class of 2016. At the middle of every school year the grade as a whole decides to throw a magnificent party to celebrate the end of their high school lives. Everyone is invited and the overall attitude is that kind of superficiality common to people who are never going to see each other again. It's all tears and goodbyes, all of a sudden people remember going through things with each other which probably mattered very little. Maybe it's the drugs, but you feel as though suddenly everybody loves each other, and that everyone is kind and agreeable.
And then everything goes sour. Murder tends to do that to a party.
In one way or another you were involved in the murder of a young man who was invited to the party. Alone for most of the night, he was the kind of guy whose point of view on life was so stone cold that it made it hard to conjure up good memories of him. He was cold and aggressive, and the type of nosy which proved painful. He was known to blackmail, so he was better off dead, right? Even the hippies and religious clubs at school would agree, as they could only remember him as the guy who asked distasteful questions and put down any kind of expression of belief. He was something of a heretic in that sense. Still, there's something morally wrong about letting his death go unstudied, and though your secret is safe, you've been forced into a bond with these other people who, like you, have done something unspeakable.
- Instead of just posting your CS to the sign-up page, I would like for you to send it to me first. If you attach a writing sample that would be nice, but if you prefer not to I can just look at your old Rps. I won't get too picky, but I want to be sure you can handle the limit.
- The limit is at least 12 lines. At first the maximum is 3 paragraphs, but when things pick up (and at the very beginning) we might be able to write more than three. That's cool too.
- Fade to black not only for sex, but for gore too. It seems appropriate here. Character reactions and mild mentions are okay, but nothing especially jarring.
- Some diversity in the characters please! Not just in the amount of males or females, but in sexual orientations and races too. Especially that character which embodies limbo. As a non-Christian character (which they should be, considering the "sin") you have an open invitation to be inclusive.
- Romance is encouraged, but remember your character is in shock! Or maybe not, depending on personality. But we tend to make impulsive decisions after a murder, I'm sure. Character depth and character development is even better than "I'm in love and now the shock has worn off!" because that's not fun to read or Rp.
- That being said, plotting is encouraged. That's the best part!
- If you want to reserve a spot, please let me know here. I can do that for you c:
- If you have read this please send "Abandon all hope ye who enter here" when you send me your CS. A classic quote.
