Expert in Existential Crises
This is my interest check. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
I am Nichomedes. I am 38, I think. Female, mostly? The important thing is I like to write.
My primary interest is storywriting. I love building a compelling, character driven story, usually with some kind of redemption arc, which relies heavily on character development and philosophical examination. This may or may not include romance. I do enjoy it, but it's not my primary goal and it may not happen. I also love world-building, but worlds I create with others tend to be that much richer.
In my opinion, the difference between roleplaying and storywriting is that in roleplaying, you are the character. In storywriting, you are the god, and the character is your pawn.
I am comfortable taking on the role of GM, even in a 1x1 capacity, but I can take a backseat as well if you wanna take the wheel. I'm also cool with a 50x50 split of world building and story leading responsibilities.
I've been RPing since I was 13, in every way imaginable. Tabletop, chatrooms, forums, mmos... not LARPing actually. Just never had the opportunity. While I am female IRL, I'm probably somewhere on the LGBT spectrum and I prefer to write male characters. Which is probably why my username sounds masculine. I do write female characters too, when the inspiration strikes, but not as often.
A bit about me:
- Ghost-friendly. Prefer that you don't, but I understand.
- LGBTQIA+ friendly.
- I prefer fantasy, but I am open to other genres if the premise is compelling.
- I prefer low fantasy, but high fantasy is workable too.
- Preferably only OC settings, which may not follow Tolkienesque norms.
- I enjoy an open OOC dialogue to maintain a rapport with my partners, but this is not required.
- I like scary serif fonts, like Book Antiqua, but I'm actually a pretty chill person and not very scary.
- I don't really like Fandoms, especially not anime. Just not my thing.
- I will make exceptions for certain fantasy-themed games, such as D&D, DragonAge, Vampire the Masquerade, etc.
- I am a 90s kid, so if you name drop Anne Rice or Terry Pratchett, I WILL get excited.
- Doubling, tripling, whatever is fine. Whatever the story calls for.
- I write normally between 500-2000 words, but less or more is fine depending on what is called for. I am hoping you can meet me roughly where I am.
- I don't usually use Character Sheets or Face Claims, but I am not opposed to them if you like them.
- I do not have any triggers. That isn't to say there aren't topics that make me uncomfortable, but I enjoy exploring outside my comfort zone. Please let me know if there are things I should avoid.

The City of Algiers is an oasis of civilization in a desert wasteland. It well known that gods of flesh and blood wander the Earth, many of them taking it upon themselves to rule over and protect humans in their various settlements and countries throughout the unmapped world. A triumvirate of three gods have been the rulers of Algiers since time immemorial. The city-state is blessed with plenty--clean water, plenty of food, and a massive wall that protects the populace from the horrors that wander the lands beyond.
But upon your arrival, you find there is a seed of discord germinating in the soil of this supposed utopia. According to someone called the Dreamer, the gods are not what they claim to be. The miracles they provide are not boons, but secrets unfairly kept from Algerian citizens. We are being farmed. Take control of your fate, beckons the Dreamer. Overthrow the government. Kill the gods.
MULTIFACETED
We are Geoliths. Shapeshifters. Beings made of living crystal, with the ability to alter the way light strikes our surface. We can appear however we want to--granted the shape we want to take is similar in size. We're born not knowing that we're different, and our abilities come to us in childhood.
My mother once told me there used to be more of us. She said that in ancient times, there even used to be cities. We had religions, schools, architecture, music, art, even language. I don't know how long ago that was, but it sounds like a fairytale. Like a lie. Because now there are only hundreds of us left. The organics fear us, because we can look like they do. We can become anyone. We lie as easily as we breathe. We can't help it. We hide now, even from each other.
We don't need to come together anymore. Instead of dreaming, our consciousness visits another plane when we sleep. We can see each other when we dream--in the Faceted Dream. This is how we communicate. This is how we still have community.
But we're disappearing at an alarming rate. Something is happening to us. Something is killing us. And worse--somehow, something has entered the Faceted Dream.
CHARACTER FOR HIRE
I am also open to joining RPs temporarily as a prescribed character, if you need one. Perhaps you need a villain to fill a specific role. A temporary plus one for your 1x1, or a villain for your group RP. Perhaps you need someone to die heroically. I'm your man. Or woman. Or whatever you need me to be. I love the challenge of filling a role that's already described, like an actor.
