Multiple Settings Newbie looking for a semi-short romance to get started

Hi! I'm a newbie who has no idea what he's doing! I have a little previous experience with roleplay but not much: I'm currently in a weekly D&D game (but it's much more combat-focused than roleplay-focused), and I once did a 1x1 roleplay with a friend via email (but I didn't really know what I was doing, and I had some writer's block, and it was difficult for us to control both our characters and the antagonists at the same time; we ended up stopping in the middle of the story). I've been interested in the idea of expressing myself through a unique character for a long time, and I want to try to do it in a substantial way.

Anyway, I'm looking for a partner to get started with. I'd prefer romance because it seems like that is a pretty common genre that would be easier to do than some other genres. If it's romance, I'd prefer to play a male and my partner to play a female. That said, I'm open to other genres as well. For setting, I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi but would do the modern world or other settings. I'd also prefer a story that does not just go on indefinitely -- I want to have fun with it but eventually come to a satisfying conclusion and leave it at that -- and I want the story to have some structure; I don't want to feel like the plot is just progressing aimlessly, as was the case in the previous roleplay I did. I don't know if that is a common problem, but I'm just throwing that out there.

Here is a writing sample from the previous roleplay I did, in which I played a psychic dwarf martial artist with chrysophobia:

Nyrbone wakes to the sound of birds chirping in the trees overhead. “Ughh,” he groans as he stretches his limbs one at a time. He notices himself shivering. No, no, this won’t do at all, he thinks. He turns his head left, then right, then slowly rises out of the think clump of bushes in which he hid himself to sleep. Nothing around, good. Ow, that branch was poking me all night. Well, at least the grass was soft. And at least the bushes blocked the wind. He makes his way out of the bushes, thick-skinned, bare feet painlessly crushing twigs and branches.

Nyrbone’s stomach grumbles. Before he can stop himself, visions of food dance through his head. Then he starts gagging, and he leans over as if to vomit, but nothing comes out. His stomach is empty. Panting, he sits down as the gagging subsides. Well, that’s what I get for emitting a Localized Psionic Aura of Filth, Rot, and Disease all night. Didn’t I dream about eating mud? I’m alive though, that’s what matters. He meditates for several minutes, clearing his subconscious of the disgust it currently associates with food. Finished, he rises and starts north along the road.
Ok, when am I gonna get to that town? Hopefully soon – I’m ready for a hot breakfast. Thoughts of food bring him pleasure now, as do thoughts of its warmth. He’s still shivering. No, this isn’t gonna do at all. Autumn’s almost over – hard to tell nowadays ‘cause of it changing so slowly, but seems like it. And I’m farther north than I’ve ever been by myself. I miss Jenun’s tent. I gotta find a way to keep warm at night.

After an hour and a half of brisk walking, Nyrbone comes to a house. A little ways later, he emerges from the forest into the fields on the outskirts of the town. He enters the first tavern he sees and buys a heaping plate of eggs, grits, bacon, truffles, cheese, and baked apples slices, with some ale to drink. “Ahh,” he sighs as he sets down his empty glass after his last gulp of ale.

“Bartender!” he calls. The bartender finishes refilling a glass and comes over. “Is there some place in this town where can I go to buy some enchanted items?”

“Well,” the bartender replies, “you should start at the Traders’ Square. That’s where everyone does their business. You could try to find a specialty shop, but they might not let you in unless they know who you are or you have a referral from someone at the Traders’ Square.”

“Thanks,” Nyrbone replies, and he gets up and makes his way out the door. Soon he arrives at the Traders’ Square.

With all that said, if you have some ideas that you think I would like, let me know!
