Narrator
"Howdy, Partner. You can call me the Narrator. Whether you're an intrepid wanderer in search of a literary adventure or just an intrigued passerby, I'm glad to have run into you. The desert can be quite unkind to those caught unaware so do keep your eyes open and your wits about you."

- 「 BASICS 」INTRODUCTIONWelcome to Moonshot. A weird surrealist, fourth-wall-breaking, science, fantasy, space western about a doomed planet fighting to survive after the moon is struck by an asteroid and half of it has fallen out of the sky. That’s right, you heard me. The moon has fallen out of the sky and crashed into the little planet your character calls home.
And where is, or was, home you might ask? For all intents and purposes of building a cohesive story, home was a bustling metropolis city known as New Oasis. Sounds familiar? Admittedly, the city wasn’t doing too great even before the moon crashed into it but that’s not my story to tell.
Anyway, whatever was there before doesn’t matter because it’s gone now.
With half the moon missing, the planet began to deteriorate rapidly and will eventually become uninhabitable. We won’t even mention the giant black hole that appeared in the sky or all the monsters that started appearing. Maybe it was a natural adaptation, creatures evolving to cope with the hostile environment, or something far more sinister, who knows? Whatever the reason, this spelled no good, very bad news for us.
Life as we know it could not continue to exist in these conditions so we looked to the one safe place remaining for hope.
Space.
The Saturn Corporation, a multi-trillion dollar conglomerate known for renewable energy, cybernetics, and their technological advancements in space exploration, won the bid to build The Atlantis - a self-sustaining space habitat that will be able to support humanity on what remains of the moon. It has everything we would need to give us a fighting chance.
Its CEO, Oliver James is an eccentric, moody, controversial inventor, entrepreneur, and chief engineer. While hated by many for his power and wealth, unconventional methods and politics, Saturn Corp was celebrated for their contributions to moving the human race forward, or in this case, helping it survive completely. But how did we choose? There was no way to take everyone. How did we decide who goes and who stays? The final decision? A worldwide lottery. You win, you have a ticket for migration. You lose, you stay on the planet, awaiting the inevitable that will surely come.
COMBATThis roleplay will be predominantly "PvE", with a few opportunities for Player Character Vs. Player Character sprinkled throughout. With that in mind, occasionally events will have their outcomes determined via dice roll, with opportunity for advantaged rolls for characters who may have some trait or ability that would lend itself well to the task they are trying to complete. The dice rolls and advantages (or disadvantages) will be determined by the GM prior to the roll.
- 「 MORE 」ATLANTIS
On the surface of what remains of the moon sits a technologically advanced metropolis where humanity’s most fortunate currently live. Built by the Saturn Corporation, Atlantis offers everything humanity could need, want, and more. Atlanteans, also known as Collies (short for Colonists) by those Earthbound, live in relative peace, bonded and also haunted by the knowledge that they are part of the 1% that have been selected to survive.
Deep beneath Atlantis, residing at the center of a massive labyrinth is the heart of this thriving city is a massive crystal that radiates an energy the people once called potentiality. This crystal is what powers the city and keeps it afloat although not many are aware of this save for the governing body and a select group of engineers in charge of its maintenance.
AMESTRIAIn stark contrast, our planet has become a desolate desert wasteland overwhelmed by terrors and creatures that lurk in the dark. And boy is it dark. In the aftermath of the moon falling out of the sky, it is almost as if the darkness has taken on a life of its own. It seeps into every crevice, drawing paranoia and fear from every living thing it touches. The Earthbound all know that when night falls, the smart thing to do is to stay inside, lock your doors, and turn on your lights. To do otherwise would be suicide.
Crime runs rampant throughout the city (if you can even call what remains a city) as resources are dangerously scarce and every day has become a fight for survival where only the strongest will survive.
- 「 RULES 」
GM NOTESSo, what can you expect from this role play? A number of things. For those of you who have seen or are familiar with the other New Oasis roleplays floating around the site, this rp sits under the same umbrella although it is less a spin-off and more of a sequel (albeit one of many divergent paths that could occur). While part of it takes place in what remains of its namesake city, our story starts in the year 2185. Possibly the biggest difference is potentiality doesn't exist in this world. At least, not in the way you might expect.
You will be playing either as an Atlantean or Earthbound with each having their own plots to follow. I have planned for this to be a trilogy. This means that there will be a decisive endpoint to this story and I will try my very best to ensure we get there. The entirety of this story will take place over the course of about 30-ish years with each arc taking place approximately 15 years from each other.
We’re also going to get a little funky with the way we tell this story. While there will be an overarching plot that I’m going to need everyone to follow to a certain extent, I also want your characters to be able to tell their own stories that we may occasionally zoom in and focus on so keep that in mind when creating your characters.
In essence, this is a love letter to all my favorite science-fiction books and movies I consumed growing up that I would love your help to write. There are mechanics that I am trying out in this role play which I hope translates well and will give everyone a unique and fun experience.
If you have read up to this point and decided you would like to join, I am immensely grateful and warmly welcome you to Moonshot!
Ad Astra Per Aspera.
RULES1. Be Respectful;
We're committed to creating and maintaining an environment in which each player is treated with kindness, respect, inclusion, and dignity, and is free from bullying, harassment, and/or discrimination. Any form of bullying, harassment, and/or discrimination will not be tolerated. Should you encounter or witness any of the above, flag it to the group or pm us directly.
Should there be disagreement between players regarding something that happened in-character and no conclusion can be decided upon, the GMs will step in to make the final call.
2. Absolutely no godmodding;
- This includes any moving of characters without asking OOC.
- This includes any implying that a character did something or didn’t do something without asking if that’s how they would react.
- If a post can’t be finished without knowing what another player would do then ask them or turn it into a collab.
- If you have been given a warning your post is void until the godmodding has been removed and will be yeeted back to you in a PM before being deleted from the thread.
- If we do not immediately catch that you have been godmodded please pm us.
3. Character cap and player involvement;
For now, you are allowed 1 character per player but due to the large time frame, I may allow players to create a new character with every arc depending on how active you are.
4. Post minimums;
We get it, life gets crazy sometimes and that is totally okay. But as is with all healthy relationships, communication is key. Please don't leave your partner(s) hanging for over a week without saying anything cause that's not fun for anyone. If the group is waiting for your character post and there is no sound or picture from you in over two weeks, your character may be relegated to NPC until your return or if necessary, a GM may temporarily pilot them.
5. Character Deaths;
While the chances of this happening are not incredibly high, this is ultimately a story about survival and there will always be some who don't. For the most part, character deaths will always come down to the player's decision and no one else. The only exception is if you have your character attempt something completely batshit crazy that realistically could get them killed. In this case, I may call for the player to essentially roll a death saving throw.
