News New Chat System (Trial)

For anyone not being able to turn on always show names (in the big chat tab), I fixed it by going to the forums tab, then go into the chat rooms on the bar, join the SB from there and change the setting from the gear, then close it and go back to the chat tab


 
By the way, please merge SB messages pretty please? And put your own messages on the left side, because the generic blue randomly placed and stacked messages are just plain annoying and a pain to navigate with

The absolute ONLY thing I like thus far is the ability to quick-chat with one separate person, instead of PMing... but I'd sacrifice that to have my Shoutbox back ;____;


And on an unrelated note >_> Are Fellows still supposed to be helping out in SB, cause now there's the mods section listed at the top but no way to tell who's a Fellow or not.

There's a green button at the right of the chat bar. Click it, and your problem is solved for as long as you keep it that way.
 
Plus with my mobile browser, there isn't a way to turn it off so I'm kinda stuck with this floating tab that gets stuck in the middle of my screen and is in the way when I'm trying to message someone

Yes. The admins are busy with other things right now. They will get back to you as soon as they are able. Be patient.

So, in the mobile version. My only complaint is that it doesn't scroll properly. I go to type and it goes to the top, and when I try to scroll it won't let and me and shoots to the bottom.


On the MacBook it's fine.


I have no real complaints, other than it being silly on the phone.

Wait, no, just cleared my cookies and cache and I got the 'Mobile Chat' thingie :) Gonna explore a bit now.
 
Does the block feature in the chat work? And if so, how do i undo it?


EDIT: Apparently a manage who you block button magicarry appeared.

Ya when I'm typing and someone else posts my phone starts to shift the screen a lot and then it crashes. It may be my phone but if it isn't then... Well you know.
 
Alrighty! I must say, I'm a hug fan of the new system. Yes, it will take some getting used to, but it shows great promise. It's a little clunky on mobile still, but functional. The only issue I have is whenever I'm typing a message and somebody posts a message, the typing bar will move itself up its whole width for every message. ugh, i dislike almost every aspect of the new chat. x_x


i can only see 2 messages at a time on mobile if i have my touch keyboard open (3 messages if i don't), i can't receive private chat messages on mobile, i can't see minichat on mobile.


i don't like how clunky chat becomes if i enable names.


i can't enable private chats and disable group chat. it's none or both.


my sent text in big chat is formatted weird and it's really unappealing to the eye.


i miss tagging people, i can't customize my text color, the layout is extremely unattractive. bleh.


the only thing i DO like is the private chat messages but even then i have to be on my desktop to use them and they don't have timestamps. x(

As I go about more with the new chatbar and such, now its starting to remove my chat boxes when I refresh a page or it glitches and tells me I have 2-3 messages when I dont. Honestly, something like the bar on the bottom is AWESOME! but the fact that its removing my little chats and telling me I have messages when I dont is very much annoying :/ As far as I noticed, allot of people are inbetween of loving this and hating it

Timestamps are when you see the time the user posted the message right? Well if you are on a laptop or desktop you just hover over the message and the time they posted will appear above it.
 
I think the new chat is alright. It's fast and efficient but takes a bit of time to load on mobile but that's understandable.
 
Okay, after more than ten minutes of use. Which was about how much I had used it when I made my first reply to it, I think the chat system is rather well-designed. The character limit feels rather constricting though. Being effectively limited to around twenty-eight words is a bit of a bother. Nothing I can't put up with given that I rarely use Chat anyway, and I'm rather active on Twitter so I'm used to dealing with a character limit, but I'm just saying it feels restrictive. The other thing I've seen mentioned and think would be useful is being able to access someone's profile through the chat. Though I'm assuming that's a functionality that would be added in if the chat system was kept.
