hello. I just signed up for this sight and was confused about how the 10 post thing works. Also I have rped before but everything is different on this site. Some friendly help would be great. Thanks for reading

When you sign up, until you have made 10 posts and have been a member for 24 hours you cannot set a signature, post on people's profiles, or start a private conversation with anyone. However, to my knowledge you can reply to conversations others have started with you. It's a safeguard against spambots and trolls.
Replying to a thread or starting one yourself counts as a post. There's a few parts of the site where posts and new threads don't count for your post count though- those are posts in private conversations, on profile walls (which you can't post on anyways), in the private workshop, and personal discussion of the site.
If you haven't found an rp you want to join yet, a good way to get your ten posts is to make an intro in the introductions part of the site, or reply to threads in the entertainment and rp discussion.
