“In the name of the moon, we will punish you!!!”

A civilian was lying face down on the ground, a shimmering crystal floating over his chest as a hideous two-headed beast hunched over him, a long tongue hanging out of one of its mouths. Its attention was stuck on the five scouts at first, but then he wrapped his tongue around the crystal and the other head let out a war cry, a circular light growing in its throat and then shooting out at the sailor scouts.

“Look out!”

The six of them leapt out of the way, their pink-clad leader keeping a close eye on the monster as she landed safely on the ground. She took hold of her tiara as the monster started charging up for another attack. “Moon tiara magic!” She launched the tiara like a disk, but the monster let loose its attack and the two attacks collided and nullified each other. Sailor Moon’s tiara came to an abrupt halt and clattered to the ground.

“Amazoness jungle arrow!” The quartet used their group attack, launching a shining arrow of light at the enemy. It hit at his feet and sent him flying backwards with a screech, dropping the crystal in the process. Sailor Ceres caught the crystal and the monster turned and ran away from the group.

“Sailor Moon, let’s go!”

While the Sailor quartet fell behind to help the monster’s target, Sailors Moon and Saturn ran after the creature to stop him before he could hurt anyone else. They chased him down the street and towards the park.

Trying to enjoy the great weather before curfew, Mia sat cross-legged on one of the park benches, her school bags sitting next to her with a book cracked open as she closed out the rest of the world and hid in her solitude. People passed, but nobody bothered her. A slight breeze played at the loose strands of red hair in her face, two loose, messy fishtail braids hanging over her shoulders thick and long.

A screech in the distance caught her attention and she looked up from her book for a minute, but soon had her nose back in her book, hazel eyes intently staring at the pages. As she finished turning one page, she turned to the next.

The ground shook.

Mia looked up again, this time bookmarking her page and closing it. She heard people screaming and set her book aside, getting to her feet and grabbing her bag, her eyes fixed in the direction the screams were coming from, as if she would spontaneously acquire x-ray vision if she stared long enough, as if she would be able to see through the trees to find out what was going on.

The nest thing she knew, a huge beast burst out of the trees and stopped right in front of her. It had two heads and long front arms like a gorilla. It spotted her and one of the heads licked its lips, its arms reaching out towards her as the second head opened, drool pouring out onto the ground as a small light began to glow in his throat, slowly getting larger.

‘What the…’

Before she could even finished her thought, the light shot out of his throat, hitting the ground by Mia’s feet and exploding, the force throwing her a good distance before she skidded to a stop on the ground, her bag thrown clear of her, not that that mattered right now.

She tried to get up but the monster jumped on top of her, holding her limbs down with his own. The head that had previously been licking it’s lips now had its long tongue hanging out, drool dripping off of it, on to her and the ground. She tried to fight her way free, but he was too strong. She struggled, grunting in exertion.

He opened his mouth wide towards her and suddenly she felt a force pulling at her chest, as if someone was trying to pull her heart out. She cried out, still trying to get away, and her forehead started to burn. The monster seemed frustrated by something and took a break from sucking whatever-it-was out of her chest to point his head up at the sky and roar. But she still felt the pulling sensation in her chest. And in this moment one of the monster’s hands loosened, unintentionally she was sure, and she slipped her wrist out of his grip.

With her free hand she grabbed the tongue that was still hanging in her face, the only thing she could reach, and yanked it sharply. It caught the monster off-guard and he jumped, allowing her to free the rest of her limbs from his grasp. She lifted her feet to kick him off of her. It hadn’t worked as well as she’d planned, but she rolled out from under him and heaved herself to her feet, grasping her chest tightly, feeling something was about to burst out of it.

“H- AHHHHH!”

Before she could call out for help, he shot another beam at her, and it was all she could do to avoid it to throw herself on the ground. The huge drool that was still on her began dripping off and connected her to the ground. Literally. She tried to stand back up but the sticky drool was stuck to her, and the ground, and wouldn’t separate from itself, her or the ground.

She couldn’t move and the monster approached her and sneezed on her, sticking her to the ground with even more saliva. He was about to start pulling her chest out again but she let out a loud cry and she was engulfed in a bright, orange light that dissolved the drool and sent the monster flying away from her. The pulling on her chest intensified and as if someone had reached into her and pulled it out, a star-shaped locket emerged from her chest.

“Ugh!” She grabbed for her chest but the sensation was gone and she looked at the locket floating in front of her.

“Sailor Leo, you’re powers lay before you,” The soft, melodic voice echoed in her head, drowning all other sound out, as if she’d been transported to another dimension. “Take this Star Locket and reawaken…” There was no ignoring it, and even though she didn’t have a clue what was going on or what the voice was talking about, she complied and took hold of the locket.

She stared at it for a moment then looked up to see the monster running for her. She heard the voice in her head again and repeated what it said. “Leo Power!”

Light engulfed her and her silhouette was wrapped in warm, orange ribbons that almost seemed like they were burning rays of sunlight as they shimmered in the light. The light shattered into pieces as if it were glass, and fluttered towards the ground, but dissolved before reaching it, and she was revealed as a sailor scout in orange and pink, standing in a pose, giving the illusion that she knew what she was doing. But the monster was coming right at her and all she could think to do was jump out of the way, which she did. She leapt into the air as he threw himself at her, jumping off of one of his heads and landing safely on the ground behind him.

She turned around and the monster was getting up after her jump off of his head had thrown him into the ground. She knew he would come after her again and she still didn’t know what to do. Luckily, just as he was turning around to attack her again, six other sailor scouts made their appearance.

Right as they burst onto the scene they were focused completely on the monster, until they saw Mia, an unfamiliar scout. She was just as surprised as they were, but they managed to refocus more quickly than her.

“Sailor Moon!” One of them called as the monster began charging another attack.

Their pink-haired leader nodded understanding and drew out a wand. “Moon Gorgeous Meditation!” Wand held out in front of her, a bright heart-shape emerged from the top of it and flew towards the monster, growing bigger and bigger until it finally collided with the monster and shattered around him. It let out a scream and toppled over, dissolving into thin air, all but a small, black, heart-shaped gem that fell to the ground with brown smoke coming off of it.

One of the scouts, with a glaive, walked up to it and turned her blade towards it, bringing it down to destroy what Mia could only assume was the source of the monster’s evil power. Once the monster was taken care of, one of the scouts sighed “They’re getting tougher…”

The scout with the glaive and Sailor Moon, however, were more interested in her. “It’s a good thing there’s a new sailor scout then.” They made their way over to her and she wasn’t sure what to say.

She was introduced to each of them, Sailor Moon, Sailor Saturn, Salor Vesta, Sailor Pallas, Sailor Juno and Sailor Ceres. She had to assume she was Sailor Leo, as the voice in her head had called her that before, and she introduced herself as such. And they suggested she join their team.

“This team is not yours, you must find the missing two.”

That voice again. She didn’t necessarily want to be a part of this team, or any of this to be honest. She didn’t usually listen to voices in her head, but so far this one had only helped her. “No,” she spoke up “I’m not a part of your team… I have to go…” They seemed disappointed, but she turned to leave.

“Wait,” Sailor Moon stopped her. “We’re all sailor scouts, we should team up and stick together!”

She stopped for a moment but didn’t face them. “I’m not supposed to be on your team. I have my own mission. Good luck in yours.”This time they let her go, but they still seemed disappointed. She sighed as she walked away. She didn’t know what she was doing, she was about as new to this as she could be and here she was turning do the best help she could ask for. And even though she didn’t really want this, she realized that her mind was already set on being a sailor scout and that she had to look to the others as an example and protect earth.

Hopefully the voice in her head was right…

It had been a couple of days since discovering she was Sailor Leo, and she hadn’t heard the voice since then. She didn’t have a clue what she was supposed to be doing, and was starting to think it had all been a very vivid dream. Except she still had the locket…

She had been out of the house just as much as usual, as much as she could possibly get away with before her parents locked her in her room and put bars on her windows. She was walking through the park for the first time since she’d encountered the monster. There was still damage, but other than that everything was back to normal, with plenty of people around enjoying the sunlight. Brushing red strands of hair out of her face, she looked around, wondering if maybe the voice was only at this spot and if that was why she hadn’t heard it since.

She could see the top of the crystal palace from here, over the tree tops, through the clearing the monster had created. She waited for a few moments, but nothing. The only voices she heard were those of the other park-goers taking a stroll or having a picnic. She’d hoped she could find some answers here, but it looked like she was going to leave just as clueless.

Mia walked home from school the next day, she wanted to drop off her books and change out of her uniform before finding something to do, and hopefully something that would take her mind off of all of this sailor scout business. She couldn’t force the answers to come so she was going to try to relax today. If all else failed, she could find the other scouts, maybe they could help her.

Once home, she ran to her room and tossed her bag onto her bed before stripping down to her underwear, leaving her school uniform on the ground but kicking it towards her closet. She slipped into a pair of denim shorts and a baggy, purple, plaid button-up under a short brown, pleather jacket. She was about to run back out of the house but something caught her eye. The locket had fallen out of her bag when thrown onto the bed. There was a little hesitation in her, but she grabbed it and found a black, sparkly purse to stuff it into, not quite ready to wear it proudly. She zipped it up and adjusted the large bow on the front before slinging it over her shoulder and attempting to get out of the house without anyone noticing.

“Mia!” her mother called just as she opened the door. She froze, as much as she wanted to make a run for it. “I asked you to do the dishes!”

“I know, mom, but I have a paper to write, I need to go to the library!” She lied, then ran out before her mother could say anything else. She sighed once the door was closed, then took off. She’d been lying. There was no paper. She didn’t need to go to the library. But she decided she would. There was nowhere else she had to be, after all.

“Mia!” She heard her name again, but this time it wasn’t her mother. She turned her head a spotted a familiar face running up to her.

“Hey, Tess.” She greeted her bleach-blonde friend, stopping to let her catch her breath.

“Where are you headed??” She promptly prodded.

“Just the library.”

Tess shook her head, angelic curls bouncing around her face. “The gang’s going out for smoothies, you should come with!”

Mia smiled. Maybe this was just what she needed right now. Hopefully it would take her mind off of everything, it was starting to drive her crazy. She nodded “Let’s go!” Tess linked arms with her and began chattering away as she led her friend to the small diner they went to get smoothies.

“Look who I found~!” Tess announced as they met their friends at a corner booth. “Ben, scoot.” She demanded, and the redhead complied, making room for both Tess and Mia to sit. But just as she was sitting down, while her friends were still greeting her, a cloaked figured flickered into the middle of the diner. He snapped his fingers and the doors slammed closed, quickly grabbing everyone’s attention.

“Hey there, boys and girls,” A venomous voice came from the figure “What a lovely bunch here today, I hope you don’t mind if I borrow something from each and every one of you!”He snapped his fingers a second time and a portal opened up behind him, a hideous beast stepping out of it, an eyeless creature with three rows of sharp teeth, large wings in place of arms, with purple smoke spewing out of large pores on its back. “I’ll leave this to you…” the cloaked figure said, and as quickly as he’d appeared, he had disappeared.

As the sealed diner filled with smoke, panic ensued with people stumbling over each other, trying to get away from the monster. Mia’s friends weren’t unlike the rest of the diner. She’d been shoved back out of the booth as her friends rushed to get out “Mia, come on!” Tess urged.

“I’m right behind you!” She assured her friend and Tess turned to make her way toward the exit, Mia following closely behind until the smoke thickened too much to see her hand in front of her face.

“Sailor Leo,”

That voice again! She stopped dead in her tracks. ‘Who are you?’ She had to ask while she had the chance.

“There’s no time for that now. You know what to do.”

She hadn’t got her answer, but the voice was right, she heard the monster let out a screech, followed by the frightened screams of the people in the diner. She reached into her purse and pulled out the locket “Leo power!” The smoke gave her cover, so nobody would know her identity. “Stop right there!”

She faced the direction she heard the monster’s screeches coming from, but she couldn’t see a thing. ‘Where is that birdbrain?’ she thought, and her answer came swiftly with a gale knocking her back into the wall of the diner. “Shit…”she groaned with a wince, getting back on her feet. “I don’t even know where he’s coming from…” she thought aloud.

A screech sounded from right beside her and she reacted quickly, stepping out of his way and, reaching an arm out to feel for him, sent a well-aimed kick to his side. He was knocked back, but still on his feet, almost un-phased. She didn’t know how she was supposed to stop him.

The next second she heard a huge crash come from the other side of the diner. “You should leave these poor people alone.” A calm, soothing voice. The smoke started to clear up a little, enough for Mia to see a silhouette across the room. “I am the sailor soldier of silence, destruction, of death and birth! I fight for love and justice, and in the name of Saturn, I won’t let you hurt anymore innocent people!” Once she was finished talking the smoke had cleared enough to see that it was Sailor Saturn speaking. It was also now clear that one of the windows had been broken to allow people, and the smoke, out, and nearly everyone had cleared out. The only people left were Mia, Sailor Saturn, and a few people lying on the floor. Whether they were okay or not, she wasn’t sure.

The monster flapped its large feathered wings to send a gale towards Saturn, and in response she raised her glaive. “Silence wall!” A purple light shot out of her glaive, creating a barrier in front of her and completely negating the attack.

“Sailor Leo, use your power!”

As if it had just been beamed into her head, Mia suddenly knew just what to do “Leo solar flames,” she shouted, holding her hands out while a ball of bright, shining flames built up, floating over her hands. “Roar!” She controlled the flames in both hands and swung them back to her right side, letting go with her left hand, and launching the flames like a bowling ball towards the monster. And as soon as they left her hands, they took on a life of their own, vaguely taking on the shape of a lion’s head, mouth open as if to eat the monster. But just as the flames were about to sink their teeth in, the monster ducked down then leapt out of the way, taking to flying.

The flames continued straight for Sailor Saturn, but her barrier stopped them instantly. With one flap of his giant wings, the monster shot up out of the diner, busting a hole through the roof. “Don’t let him get away!” Saturn followed after him and Leo followed suit, the two of them leaping out through the hole and landing on the roof above, the monster turning his non-sights on the people who had fled earlier. “I’ll stop him, you hit him with another attack!” Leo nodded and Saturn jumped into the monster’s path, halting him momentarily as she erected another barrier. And Leo launched another attack, this time it connected and the monster fell to the ground.

Sailor Leo sighed in relief. It looked like he was down for the count. “Th-” Before she could even finish thanking Saturn for the help, a screech emitted from the monster and it began to stir again.

“Get back!” Saturn raised her glaive and Leo complied with her urged demand. “Press crusher!” She spun her glaive around and to spiraling energies rushed towards the monster. She then stopped the glaive, pointing the blade at the monster and a purple beam of energy followed between the spiraling white energy. It widened and as the purple energy formed a ball, the white energies circled around it. When it hit the winged monster it let out one last screech as it dissolved, leaving behind the same black, heart-shaped gem as the other monster. Saturn approached it and, as she had done before, smashed it with the blade of her glaive.

It certainly made Mia feel useless, she hadn’t been able to dissolve the monster. Sailor Saturn gave her a nod and Mia walked over to her. “How did you learn to destroy them?” she asked. What if she ended up on a one-on-one battle with one of these things and nobody showed up to help? She needed to know how to stop them on her own.

Saturn smiled. “In time, you will find a way,” The way she said it made it seem like she knew a whole lot more than she was telling. “You’re the first of the zodiac soldiers to awaken, the first thing you need to do, is locate your teammates. But until then,” she held out something that looked like a very simplistic, and cutesy, communicator. “Take this. If you are ever in need of help, you can call Sailor Moon’s team and me with this.”

“Aren’t you a part of her team??”

“Not technically.” Sailor Leo took the communicator. “Take care, Sailor Leo, and remember, we’re never far if you’re in a sticky situation.”

“Thank you.”

“These guys are getting tougher.”

“They’re tactics are changing too. They’re not trying to attack large groups anymore, now they’re singling people out."

“Don’t forget that hooded creep at the diner. Who was he?”

“Probably our new enemy…”

Mia wasn’t a part of the conversation, but she listened intently. She was still new to this, still trying to figure all of this out. The other scouts were helpful, but it wasn’t like she had a whole lot of time to ask them questions and whatnot.

“Whatever’s going on, we need to stop it.”

“Maybe Luna and Artemis found something, we should get back.”

And it looked like it was time to say goodbye. “By the way, Sailor Leo,” Before she even had a chance to move her feet, she’d been stopped. “Who are you?”

It caught her off guard. Clearly they all knew each others’ identities, but not hers. And for a reason. It wasn’t that she didn’t like or trust them, she just wanted a little privacy. “I’m not ready to tell you yet.” She told them softly. They might not have liked her answer, but they accepted it.

“I’ve spoken to my team.”

It caught Mia’s attention, but she wasn’t sure where this was going. “Yeah?”

Saturn nodded absentmindedly. “Two of them anyways. We’re going to help you try to find your team.” Leo smiled, probably relieved that she was no longer on her own at this, although Sailor Saturn had always intended on helping her. “As it is, you don’t have the power to defeat hope-suckers on your own, and they have been appearing increasingly more. Unfortunately we don’t have any way to find them until they’ve awakened.”

“So what do we do?”

“The zodiac soldiers were meant to work in teams of three. Your powers are strongest combined amongst the three of you. We’re hoping that means that you will be connected to them on some level. Maybe now that you’ve reawakened, the other two will do so shortly as well.”

“So, just wait and hope?” She sighed. If only the voice in her head would actually talk to her, and answer her questions. But she hadn’t heard it in almost two weeks.

Saturn nodded. “The other two are searching to see if any of them have become sailor scouts again. Maybe we just haven’t run into them yet. But until we find them, I’ll never be too far, so don’t hesitate to call for back-up if you’re in trouble. Sailor scouts should have each others’ backs, after all.” A warm reassuring smile was the last thing she offered Leo before leaving.

Now

Mia stood against the wall outside of the door of the classroom, fingers playing with the locket worn around her neck. She watched as her fellow students filed out of the classroom, keeping in mind what Sailor Saturn had said and, even though she wasn’t going to be able to tell a sailor scout in passing, watched her classmates curiously, wondering if maybe one of them would turn out to be one. She saw a couple of her friends approaching her. Could one of them be a sailor scout? “Hey, Liv, Tess.” she greeted with a smile. “Wanna go get something to eat before the game?” she suggested.

...

The crowd was going crazy as the team scored a touchdown with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. The entire game had been neck-and-neck and for a while it looked like the game would go into overtime, but now the team had pulled ahead, and with less than a minute left the other team would need an awful lot of luck to score again. Mia, Tess and Liv were up on their feet cheering with the rest of their schoolmates, huddled together for warmth. “Oh look, here he goes!” Tess shouted over the crowd. Another of their group of friends, was up to kick. “Go Keegan!!!” she shouted as loud as she could, as if he would be able to hear her over all the noise in the stands.

The players, all on one side of the field, with Keegan behind them, ball set up for the kick, suddenly split into two lines, one on each side of the field. And Keegan ran up to the ball only to send it flying across the field. Both teams went into action, the home team running out onto the field to stop any forward movement, and the visitors getting ready to protect their runner. The ball was caught and the player started running, evading some of the home team’s defense. The clock hit zero and just after the runner was tackled to the ground. And the stands started cheering again.

The majority of people had made their way out of the stands, but the girls had waited behind so they wouldn’t have to fight the crowd to get out. Liv zipped her jacket up and hugged her arms to her body. “Aren’t you two freezing??” She asked her friends, who weren’t wearing jackets at all.

Mia shrugged, holding onto a hot chocolate. “It’s not that bad. The hot chocolate helped too. Are you sure you don’t want any?” She asked again, but just as she had before, Liv refused the drink. Tess, on the other hand, took the drink right out of Mia’s hands and took a sip.

“Well if Miss Skin-and-Bones doesn’t want any, that means more for us.”

The redhead smiled and got to her feet. “We should probably get going, lets go see if they’re done yet.” She suggested, referring to two of their friends that were on the team and whether or not they were finished showering, changing, having a pow-wow, or whatever it was they did after a game.

The three girls descended the bleachers and jumped down onto the field to walk the rest of the way to the gate on the track, chattering away as they walked towards the boys’ locker room.

Tugging down on the conventional shorts that were a part of her sports uniform, Gracie found them to not go any lower without revealing her panty line. With a sigh, she let the shorts rest around her mid-thigh like usual and smoothed her jersey over it.

“Come on Gracie, you’re up next!” Kara nudged her with an elbow and she looked up to see that Izzy was indeed going. She nodded, pushing her elastic head band back to where it held the smaller wisps of her dark black, almost bluish hair. The rest of her curls were in a bun, or as some often named it, the mess; it was piled back and held in place with three elastics yet still found a way to be messy. It didn’t seem to be the training session either, as she had started the day with it.

As Izzy dashed off, the coach blew her whistle and Gracie was on her feet, another shrill sound later started her dash. The ball was flying to land in front of her and she readily bumped it over the net, where Izzy waited to set it back. As she did so, Gracie continued forward and leaped up, blocking the ball from coming over the net and sending it down. Izzy dived in response and the ball bounced off the sandy blonde’s fingers and hit the bottom of the net. Having also crashed into the net herself, Gracie looked over at the coach who nodded and blew the whistle again.

--

Practice was over and Gracie found herself to be rather beat, heading for the girl’s locker room and already unstrapping her knee guards. In the mock game the team had, she got hit in the face and her nose still stung because of it. She pinched her nose and the team captain Cassidy, laughed when she entered the locker room like that. Shrugging, as she didn’t find it funny but didn’t mind their humor, she started wiping the sweat off her face.

The steam from the showers already started filling the room, so she hurried through getting the rest of her uniform off before grabbing a towel. A nice hot shower later, she put on her school uniform over clean underwear, happy now that her rather bony knees barely stuck out. Rolling up the sleeves on her shirt and tucking the bottom part loosely in, she grabbed a brush and toweled off her hair. She ran the brush through once or twice, only to muss her hair again.

Really just wanting to get home and relax, she tossed her sports uniform into her bag and her towels in the laundry bin. Izzy seemed to be waiting for her by the door, a short sandy blonde bob now distinguishable. As the two walked out of the locker room together, Coach Jordan stopped them on their way out, delaying her trip home further.

“Nekamura and Saito” she noted, despite the fact that she told them to call her by her first name she called them all by their last. “You’re on first string on Friday, make sure you’re ready” she warned them, to which they both curtly nodded and bowed, free to go. Claire waited for them at the door to the gym, bouncing on her toes slightly as they approached. Josh stood behind her, shaking his head with a smile on his face

“Hurry up we’re going to miss Elliot!” Claire chided, turning her body as if that would make them go any faster. Gracie was suddenly reminded of the football game and rubbed at her face, “Gracie!” the coach called for her and she looked rather expectantly, cocking her head slightly. “Can you help put the net away?” she noted, pointing towards the roller that held the poles and mats for the net.

“Yeah…” she agreed, then turning towards her friends,You guys can go on without me! I’ll take the shortcut to the football field” she noted. The group seemed to reluctantly nod, but left as she made her way to the trolley and started pushing it. Guiding the thing across the room and into a secret panel in the wall, she locked the wheels and slid the panel shut. Hopefully Elliot was there when the others got there, otherwise there was no point in going to the football field.

--

The shortcut to the football field actually led to the entrance in front of the boy’s locker room on the other side of the field. It involved a trek past the school’s swimming pool, which was now being cleaned since the season was starting soon. Gracie made a note to herself to tryout, since tennis would be over by then. Sneaking past the gap in the chain link fence, she traveled the back path of the electrical building and popped out on the track field after climbing the fence in the corner.

The season was over for track and field, and as she made her way across, she noticed that the field was not totally empty. A shadowed figure stood on the other side of the field, near the football field and looked strangely out of place. Not that she could even identify who he was, or if it was even a he, but something else soon caught her attention. Instead of the horizon line next to him, a black spiral started to form and tore open, unleashing a huge…creature onto the field.

Gracie had stopped walking a long time ago, and she felt her heart jump up and down in her chest as she stared across at the thing. It looked kind of like a horse, except its limbs looked broken in the wrong way, almost like a spider. It had a mane, made of what looked to be a driftwood fire and its mouth was severely distorted. She realized that it was indeed meant to be sideways when it opened to show razor sharp teeth.

A step back, and then two as the beast raised its furry hoof, the whole being a nasty greenish brown color that made it all the more menacing. The portal and man were gone now and she was thankful that wherever this creature had come from, there wouldn’t be another one. As if her feet had trigger something, the thing suddenly started moving forward, but instead of clambering like she expected, it jumped.

Letting out a rather weird noise, as if was half neighing- half roaring, the monster flew through the sky towards her. Gracie felt what seemed to be another heart palpitation as she ran towards the demon, hoping it over jumped her and she made it to the field. No idea why she was even running there in the first place, she heard the crash as it landed and the shock wave sent her toppling over. Distraught, she tried getting up only to be in cased by a web, which was sticky and a weird ochre color. The ‘horse’ reared up and this time shrieked as it galloped rather gimp-ly towards her trapped figure.

Her chest was still in pain, and her struggling didn’t seem to break the binds at all as the creature leaned over her. It had more than two eyes, so Gracie found herself blindly searching around its eyes until its mouth opened and pincers came out instead of a tongue. Her forehead burned with a lit-up symbol that she herself didn’t know was happening. The pressure dug its way through her chest,

“Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”the first scream she had let out, as a aqua force in-cased her and the monster was knocked slightly back. Its stature kept it upright though, and it neighed in protest, letting out little ticks as well. Gracie noticed a golden star locket now rested around her neck and its appearance had made the webbing disappear. The creature seemed even more peeved then before as he opened his mouth and his pincers started gathering energies at the tips.

Gracie wished the aura had stayed, as it seemed to protect her from the beast she was now facing off against. She really needed some kind of help, and her new locket seemed to flash up in response to her thought process. It didn’t seem to help otherwise, and a massive beam was headed straight for her, so she did one of the things she was good at, she ran...

They were off the field and on their way to the boys’ locker room when they heard a strange sound coming from the direction of the field. The three stopped and looked back in the direction the noise had come from and Mia had a bad feeling about it. “Shoot!” She suddenly exclaimed after they turned around, figuring the noise was nothing. They stopped again and stared at their redheaded friend, waiting for some elaboration. I think I dropped my money in the stands.” She had to come up with something they would believe.

“Maybe it’s still there, we should go back and look.” The blue-eyed Liv suggested. She brushed some of her brunette strands from her face as a soft breeze played with them, thought her thick, straight bangs were getting a little long and just about in her eyes as well. From about her shoulders and below, her hair was all dyed hot pink, and spilled out over her jacket like a waterfall. She still looked a little cold, bundled up how she was,, but she wasn’t shivering anymore.

Mia shook her head. “I’ll run back and look around real quick, you two go wait for the guys so they don’t think we left without them.” They both looked a little hesitant, and exchanged looks with each other, but in the end Liv nodded and Mia handed the hot chocolate to Tess.

“If you aren’t back in five, we’ll send a search and rescue team.” Tess teased with a smile before taking a sip of the hot chocolate. And Mia watched her friends turn around and start walking before she ran off in the direction of the field, taking hold of her locket as she approached.

Her gut had been dead right, unfortunately. Whatever this thing was, it was disgusting and it was after one of her schoolmates, a jock she saw in passing occasionally, or at games sometimes, but that she didn't know. She stood at the top of the bleachers, transformed and ready to go. “Hold your horses!” she shouted down at the monster. “Just…” Her hazel eyes caught sight of a sparkle and when she saw what it was it rendered her speechless for a moment. A locket? And that mark…

She could almost recognize it, but what was it? Was that why her forehead had burned when her locket had appeared? She had to be another sailor scout… right? That was the only possible explanation Mia could come up with anyway. What else could it be? A girl who had the same exact locket that Mia used to transform also just happened to have a glowing symbol on her forehead? No way. Too weird. Too coincidental.

“Sailor Cancer!”

The voice practically shouted the answer into her head. Her appearance had managed to catch the monster’s attention, but standing and staring wasn’t enough to keep him from attacking. However, now she’d drawn his fire. It opened its mouth and shot what looked like a ball of slimy, white-ish goo at her, but she jumped out of the way and when it hit the bleachers it was obvious that it was a web, probably one that was a ***** to get out of.

“She must call out for her power! Cancerian power!”

The voice hadn’t led her astray so far, and as soon as she’d jumped out of the way the monster figured she was stalled long enough to go after the other girl again. And he began chasing after her again. She was a good runner, but she was out of her league on this one, and she would get tired soon.

“Quick!” she shouted down to her “Shout ‘Cancerian power!’” She landed on her feet and, even though this apparent new sailor scout would hopefully listen to her, she took off running towards them, hoping to stop the monster before it got to the girl. She just had to hope that this girl would trust her, at least enough to hold up a locket and shout what would probably seem like nonsense to her, all while a giant spider-horse monster was after her.

Sailor Leo stopped running, panting but otherwise showing no signs of fatigue, and held out her hands, a ball of bright flames forming in them. “Solar flames, roar!” Her hands swung behind her on her right side, then launched the flames like a bowling ball, the lion’s head forming, mouth opening to gobble up the monster. If nothing else, she figured, it would distract the monster long enough to let Sailor Cancer transform. The horse-spider saw the flames coming and leapt high into the air, still moving towards the girl. So Leo sent another flaming lion’s head at him. This time it hit, and he flew into the bleachers. But that wouldn’t be the end of him. She didn’t have the power to destroy him, and neither would this new scout.

She took a moment while the monster recovered and glanced around the field expectantly, but was disappointed that back-up had not yet arrived. Before running out to the field, she’d called on Sailor Saturn. Hopefully she would be here soon. Now not only was she needed to take care of this monster, but Mia was sure she would want to hear about Sailor Cancer.

The concussive beam that grew in the monsters throat was fired all right, and despite being out of breath, only the rubble was anywhere close to hitting Gracie. A yell sounded out from the bleachers and she, just like the monster, had turned to see who had come. Bright red hair was the first thing she saw, and she took in the mysterious girl’s uniform that was orange and pink. It seemed flashy, and her action seemed dramatic as well, until she caught sight of Gracie standing there.

It took longer than necessary for the mysterious girl to take in her appearance, and the monster used it to his advantage. Opening his mouth, he readily fired another string shot attack at the new comer, who easily jumped away. Then as if that was enough of an attack for her, the monster slowly turned his attention back to Gracie. Eyes widening, she once again turned tail and ran, despite both her legs and lung burning a hole in them.

The strange girl started yelling at her about Cancerian power, but all she was really focused on was running right now. Her pace was slowing an awful bit, and it took most of her concentration to keep herself from falling over. Gracie saw the stranger running after them, but she didn’t see much else, only hearing a weird phrase called out.

Finally falling over, she submitted to her fatigue as her lungs tried to get enough oxygen to everything at once. She might as well try…

“C-Cancerian Power!” she huffed out,

That’s all it seemed to take as her locket burst up with light and she was picked up from the ground. Ribbons spilled forth made of the same light and covered her form to make a uniform closely resembling the strangers. Landing on the ground in her new outfit, slightly less out of breath and confused until she saw the monster regain its footing.

As it had happened in Sailor Leo, Gracie suddenly knew what she had to do; slowly drawing her hands up and away from herself to leave a slight mist. “Cancer Lunar Ice,” she started as if she had been saying the thing her entire life. Her hands moved back together quickly, into a loud clap in front of her as she announced the final word. “Clamp!” and like that, a shockwave formed from the clap, brimming with ice as it flew towards the monster and hitting its mid-section. Like that the thin wave whipped around the beast and then cracked out into a larger band.

The monster cried in protest, but was still able to move as she had only hit its mid-section; it only had a little trouble getting up. Panicking, she readily fired off another clamp, this time aiming lower as the ice whipped around its legs and tripped it. Looking up at the stranger, she glanced at her hands that radiated the snow crystals she had just used.

Mia heard the girl call out for her powers and watched as she transformed into Sailor Cancer. The ice attacks hit, but didn’t keep the monster down for long. Sailor Leo leapt down in front of the monster before it got to its feet again and held her hands at the ready for another attack. But before she could even call out her attack, it got up and charged her, the mechanics of its spider-like legs getting it up faster than expected. She barely had time to react and tried to leap out of the way.

It didn’t hit her head on like it had meant to, but with a foul-aimed headbutt she went skidding across the ground. Once her body came to a halt, she looked up just in time to see it spit another web at her, and she quickly rolled out of the way and back up onto her feet.

“Lets hit him at the same time!” She didn’t know if it would do any good, as far as she knew neither of them could defeat this thing on their own. But it was worth a try to see if they could do it together.

Now a safer distance from the monster, she positioned herself directly opposite Sailor Cancer and clenched her hands together, slowly pulling them apart to reveal the glowing ball of flames. “Solar flames,” The ball glowed with the dazzling brilliance of the sun, and sparkled like fire as she pulled her arms back, much brighter, and more magnificent than before. Leaning her hips to one side to make way for her hands, and the flames, she held her position for a moment, just to make sure Sailor Cancer was ready aswell.

Once she saw that the other sailor scout was ready as well, she gave a nod to signal a ‘go.’

“Roar!” She hurled her attack forward at the same time that Cancer let loose her ice attack. For all she knew, the two attacks would negate each other, but she had a feeling they wouldn’t. As long as they hit, she would be happy, she just hoped it was enough to put him down for the count. Her flames took their shape and opened their mouth as they came barreling towards the target, and she watched optimistically, but prepared for the worst.

Amongst the girls coordinating their attacks together, Sailor Saturn arrived on the scene. She had been about to intervene, but decided to hold off for the moment and see how they did on their own. It was a surprise to find another zodiac soldier with Sailor Leo, but in a good way. Sailors Uranus and Neptune hadn’t found any others, it was good to know one had finally shown up. She still wasn’t sure whether they would be able to defeat a monster on their own. She was hoping they would, but her gut told her they wouldn’t and she held her glaive at the ready.

The beast did not seem to want to go down, readily getting up after breaking the thick layer of ice that encompassed its creepy legs. Sailor Cancer simply watched as it got up and charged towards her new companion, spider legs helping its darting journey. The thing head butted at Sailor Leo and despite her attempt to jump away, hit her causing Gracie to cringe as she was sent skidding. Although the redhead’s reaction speed truly showed when she easily rolled out of the way of an incoming web. The girl then got back up on her feet and offered her a suggestion,

“Lets hit him at the same time!”

At the command, she got ready for another attack, slowly drawing her hands out with a bigger mist trail left behind. Her hands tingled more, and she readied herself for the oncoming double attack, “Lunar Ice…” Then at the others signal, her arms flew together in a loud clap, announcing “Clamp!” at the same time she had roared.

The two attacks rushed in at the same time, hers icing over at the same time that Sailor Leo’s fire had formed a lion’s head. A bright flash, when the attacks hit the monster at the same time, the fire and ice being more effective instead of negating each other like she had thought. The monster cried in protest, falling over with a big lurch and seemingly very injured from the attack. Its feet were still kicking up in the air, and Gracie took it as a sign that it wasn’t dead…

“Why can’t we kill him!?”

She questioned the other girl because she had known what Gracie had to yell to transform, and probably knew more about it then the newly transformed scout. Although by the looks of it, she was having troubles as well in defeating this monster; the two of the clearly needed help, as the monster once again got up. Hesitant on which way to charge first, the monster ready fired a web at each of them, which Gracie dodged surprisingly easily and was charged after by the monster.

The attacks collided. With each other and the monster. There was a bright flash of sparkling light, the light of the solar flames shimmering off of the ice. The monster went down and he was still for a moment, but he didn’t disintegrate like he would have had they defeated him. His legs began moving again and it was only a matter of time before he was up and at ‘em again. He got up and shot another web at each of them, and both of them dodged with relative ease, but this was getting tiring.

Sailor Leo glanced around and spotted Sailor Saturn off out of the way. Had she been here the entire time? Not that Leo minded too much, she obviously had been waited to see how the two would do on their own. “Sailor Saturn!” She called out for her help and Saturn nodded as she raised her glaive, eyes fixed on the monster as it ran after Sailor Cancer.

She spun her glaive slowly like a baton and to white beams of spiraling energy emitted from it. Swinging it high, she made sure she was aimed at the target and swung it down to point at the monster. “Press Crusher!” And a thick purple beam shooting out of it, the white energies spiraling around it, and hitting the monster. When he’d heard a new voice, he’d stopped to see who it was, and he hadn’t be able to react before the attack hit him, knocking him over in what almost seemed like slow motion and he started to disintegrate. All but the black heart-shaped gem inside of him that fell to the ground with brown smoke floating off of it.

Saturn lept out of the stands to get down to the gem, and as always she turned her glaive upside down and smashed it with the blade. It turned to dust as Leo met her on the field. “It took you a while to get here.” She said, not irritated, just making an observation as she signaled Sailor Cancer to come over and join them with the wave of a hand.

“I’m sorry, the team was fighting a monster across town, I came as soon as I could.” She turned her head to look at Sailor Cancer, offering a friendly smile. “It’s good to meet you, Sailor Cancer. Sailor Leo has been on her own far too long. It’s lucky one of her teammates has popped up.” She looked to each of them for a moment then back over her shoulder at the direction she had come from. “I’m Sailor Saturn, but I’m sorry I must go. I would stay for a more proper introduction, but I need to get back to the team. If you need me, you know how to reach me.” She told Sailor Leo and she nodded back at her.

Leo had already been told about the teams of the zodiac scouts, which ones were teamed up and whatnot. Now they only needed Sailor Virgo to complete their team. Of course, having the rest of the zodiac scouts around would also be good. She watched as Saturn quickly took off and she turned to Cancer. “Sailor Saturn has been sorta an advisor and mentor to me while I’ve been on my own. She also shows up to take care of the monsters since we can’t do it on our own. So, you’ll see her again.” she explained.

“Anyway, welcome to what we can now call a team.”

“Mia!” She heard her name called, but her friends hadn’t made it out onto the field yet.

“That’s me… I haven’t told the other scouts my identity yet. As helpful as they’ve been I’d just… I don’t know, I’d rather not. But I need to get back to my friends and you probably should too. I can explain more later, I know who you are.” So maybe she didn’t know her name, but she knew what she looked like and that was enough to find her again.

The monster got back up on his feet before she was met with an answer, and Sailor Cancer seemed to bounce on the balls of her feet. As if she was ready for the attack that fired next, another two webs that were shot individually at each of them. As she jumped out of the way, she heard Leo call something that sounded like a planet, and Cancer looked around expectantly.

Once again the creature had taken a liking to the girl through, as it readily charged at her before she could see who her compatriot had called. Turning her tail, she found herself running again as she heard a new voice on the scene. Recognized as the words for an attack, she cocked her head back to look at who had fired, stumbling in the process. Easily tripping over her own two feet, she found herself rolling to land on her back.

It was quiet now, and when she rolled up onto her feet to look around, she saw another woman had joined the team. She carried a weapon with her, and wore the same kind of uniform she and Leo were wearing, although in darker colors. The monster was gone, all that remained of him being a smoking black stone that she would have picked up if Saturn didn’t jump off the stand to crush it first. After the battle she had just put up, she couldn’t believe how easy this girl had killed the thing.

The redhead approached the girl readily but Cancer was a little hesitant, only going over when she greeted her. Smiling back at the woman, she responded, “Nice to meet you too” . At the mention of team mates, she looked at the sailor next to her from the corner of her eye, unsure of the burden. Introducing herself as Sailor Saturn, Cancer simply nodded and let her go off to where –ever she needed to.

Sailor Leo took this chance to explain her part in their team dynamics and she was confused by the whole thing. “Why can’t we?” she asks, glancing down at her palms as Leo welcomed her to the team. Her real name was called and Gracie seemed to freeze, she had heard that name somewhere before, but couldn’t put a face to it. Before she could ask any more questions, the girl explained she had to meet up with her friends and Cancer nodded.

“Alright” she noted before nodding and starting to make her way off the field, wondering how exactly to change back.

“I’ll explain everything I can later.” Mia told the other scout, already beginning to walk towards the bleachers. But she paused for a moment to ask a question. ”By the way, what’s you’re name?” She could find out easily enough, she’d seen the girl and knew she was a jock. So finding her wouldn’t be too hard. Mia had jock friends too, and even if she didn’t she could probably just attend a few of the girls’ games to find her.

After receiving the girl’s name, Gracie, she ran off behind the bleachers, where she’d left her bag. When she emerged again she had transformed back and she flashed Sailor Cancer a smile, accompanied by a wave, as she ran off the field to meet her friends.

“There you are!” Tess was by herself. “Did you find it?”

Mia nodded at her friend with a smile. “Yep! Safe and sound.” She assured her, patting her back pocket. It was empty, she hadn’t lost or found any money, but Tess didn’t know that.

“Great! Let’s get out of here then. They already went on ahead of us.”

______________

The next day, Mia sat with her friends having lunch. She hadn’t seen Gracie yet today, but wasn’t too worried about it. She had considered asking Keegan or Russell if they knew her, but decided to keep her friends out of it for now.

“Where have Ben and Nate been anyway? I haven’t seen they left the game.” Liv asked Tess, blue eyes staring questioningly at the blonde. She shrugged, scooping a spoonful of yogurt into her mouth.

“I don’t keep track of those two. They’re probably just causing trouble somewhere.”

“Speaking of,” Keegan spoke up “Did any of you see the field today?” He asked, but everyone simply stared at him expectantly, waiting for him to tell them what had happened to the field. Everyone except Mia anyway. She had seen it. Heck, she had helped to make it look like that. “The ground’s all torn up and there are burn marks in the bleachers.”

“What happened?” Mia asked, curious to know if anyone had any idea what had happened. They hadn’t exactly been quiet, but most people were long gone by the time it happened. Keegan shrugged.

“Probably some dicks trying to be cool.” He did take his football seriously.

“I did hear some weird sounds coming from the field when I went to get Mia. Did you see anything?” Tess asked, and everyone looked to Mia for an answer.

She pretended to think back at what she had seen last night, really trying to come up with something. She shook her head. “No, just someone running the track. Maybe that’s what you heard, she was shouting something.” They seemed skeptical, but they let it go, the subject turning to what they should do after school. Whether they should all go out to have a smoothie or something together, or whether they should split into groups, the girls going shopping and the boys doing ‘whatever it was boys did together’ as Tess had put it.

“I have rehearsal today after school.” Liv announced. “I can’t make it.”

Tess huffed, clearly unhappy with Liv’s schedule. “Am I the only one without a thing. Even Mia does some kickboxing with you, Russell.” Along with being a Sailor Scout, but Tess didn’t know about that.

“Tess,” Mia reminded her “You used to be a gymnast.”

“Used to be…”

“There’s a team, and I’m sure you would look great in the uniform.” Russell grinned at her. The uniform was a leotard, after all.

Tess didn’t say anything at first, considering what her friend had said, nix the part about the leotard. “Maybe you’re right. I wonder when tryouts are…” She looked up at Mia, catching her looking around the area, and not for the first time. “What has you so distracted, Mia? Are you expecting a hot guy??” she asked excitedly.

Mia shook her head. “No, I was just…” It took her a moment as she scrambled for an excuse. “Seeing if Ben and Nate were going to show up.” Was that okay? Tess seemed suspicious, but she didn’t push the subject further and Mia got up. “I need to go check on something, I’ll talk to you guys later. Text me the plan when you figure it out.” And just like that she left the table, her friends a little confused, but not too worried.

Once out of sight of her friends, she let out a sigh and began walking down a hallway, towards the athletics area, where the fields, gyms and locker rooms were. It was worth a shot to see if Gracie was there, and she didn’t have anything else important to do.

Before Gracie had completely left, the other scout assured her she would explain everything she could later. When she asked for her name, she hesitated, “Gracie” she noted, staring closely at the girl’s face. When she had given her name though, sailor Leo had taken off behind the bleachers, coming back as the face she was looking for. Mia, she knew she had heard the name before, which one of them knew her again? Now having a hard time placing her friend’s name, Gracie gave a rather useless shrug.

Mia was gone by the time she snapped out of her reverie and she stood as Sailor Cancer still, not sure what exactly to do. When she had touched her locket though, the bright light was seemingly vacuumed up and she was back to being regular Gracie. Surprised, she looked down at the little star shaped locket and around the field again before remembering about Elliot. A quick glance at her watch told her it was way too late for Elliot now and she decided to head home and give Lucky a walk.

--

After dealing with questions of where she ended up yesterday and everyone eventually forgiving her for not showing, lunch was usual. They ate on the grass in front of the school building and talked game as well as potential opponents. Gracie, meanwhile, was thinking about other things that had to do with the locket that hung around her neck. She had debated putting it on this morning, but after remembering how the horse-spider had appeared from nowhere made it rest as it was.

Laying herself down in the grass, she found herself looking up at the clouds but really thinking about the stars beyond. Sailor Cancer and Leo; would that mean that every other zodiac sign would eventually be represented, and more importantly…why? Why was she powering up now? What was that weird guy/girl doing in the field yesterday?

As if reading her mind, Cole brought it up rather flippantly, “Did you see what the jerks did to our field!?” The rest of the conversation stopped and they all listened to the track star as he seemed to pause for dramatic effect. “Some of the fields been torn right up, and the bleachers have scald marks on them” he noted, “Guessing some competition that thinks there better than us!” As the group seemed to get rowdier, Gracie only got more withdrawn; she knew exactly why the field was torn up…

Claire seemed to look at her only then, and after the two shared a long glance, the girl’s eyes seemed to light up. “Gracie! Where’d you get your necklace?” she asked, and the girl immediately flew up from her lying position to have the star once again disappear down her blouse. “Uh…” she paused, upon noticing everyone was looking at her, “Just at a cute little boutique”she noted. Claire seemed a little disappointed and Josh ruffled her hair; relieved that she was off the hook, Gracie sighed.

Robin punched her lightly on the shoulder and she turned towards the brunette, “We we’re planning on a camping trip this weekend, you in?” he asked. Usually Gracie would say yes, but her recent adventure had put her at odds, what if she attracted something else? Giving a shrug at the boy before she looked towards the school again, waiting for a shock of red hair. Roxanne’s hand met her forehead and she twitched away, “Nope, not sick!” she noted, and with a rather small laugh Gracie shrugged again.

“Just depends if we win the game or not” she noted, winking at Izzy, who beamed back. Expecting her to answer back with an excited affirmative, she was surprised when the blonde asked her a question. “Why do you keep looking at the door? The whole group’s here”; Gracie slowly turned back to the group, who were a tad curious. Her mind started shuffling through possibilities of why before she settled on a half-truth.

“I’m waiting for someone else” she started, getting up “And I think I’ll go look for them now” she confirmed, telling herself more than them. “Ooookay?” Elliot agreed, reluctantly lifting his hand to wave bye and she nodded, taking off towards the doors. As she neared them, she sped up, and ended up barrelling through the second set of doors on her way in. Instead of eating tile, she caught and flipped herself, planting rather safely on her feet and straightening up. Now to find Mia….
