Needed Contributions to Webcomic + Criticism

houndings

Usurper Trainee
Hey guys! I am writing a webcomic called Union Wolf  that I want to start posting about in 2017 but I am unhappy at the moment at my unfinishment rate, i need:

  • Fillers
  • Characters (both main and background)
  • Events
  • Worldview

I am offering up to at least 3 people to help contribute to it, I really want to have help planning the story and in trade I'll:

  • add in your characters who will fit into it (who i deem are suitable to the story)
  • add your names to the co-authors officially (but if you offer but not become co-authors, i will add you under the 'Thank you, supporter' with your name bolded)
  • gladly role-play with you with this world (non-canon, canon if we all deem if it should be in there)
  • Swap Skypes so we can communicate as a group

what i need from you as contributor is:

  • A level of maturity (you know, not like a 12 year old who thinks this is a good chance to ship their mary-sue character, but friendly enough were we can shitpost and laugh)
  • contribute more than once and get into a conversation
  • not leak any spoilers of the untold parts of the story to people

WARNING: contain future spoilers

The rest of the story ending and climax will be revealed to contributors only but for now this is what i have. What I want:

  • Soft Criticism (i'm kind of sensitive but i need criticism, remember, i am only a highschooler i am no John Green, word it as if you're a teacher and buddy, i must learn)
  • Possible needed things from above
  •  wanting to be contributor
  • a 1/10 if you would be interested in reading. this is important. I don't want to make a story where I will only be entertaining a dozen people, i want to make it enjoyable to make people sit on the edge of their seats and look forwards for the updates.

Main Character:

Theodore (32) OMEGA

scent: Scotch / Honey / Smoke

Quebec (17) BETA

Scent: Honey / Smoke / Peppermint

Sheriff (28)

Scent: Old papers / oil

Ranger (29)

Scent: Woods / cut grass / Apples

Main Problem: Find the killer of his best friend and that’s been killing other werewolves in his town

Minor Problems: Fear/distrust towards him not having a collar, raising his younger (brother/sister) and avoiding his family, government cracking down on collarless werewolves, riots and protest to ban collars, uncomfortable heats (?)

Important;

COLLAR: Identity, status, pack, sliver lining to keep them from shifting, forces them to be partial shift (ears/tails) which makes them distressed and feel vulnerable with silver lining
PILL: Reduces their boost of senses, is a sort of anti-rabid ADHD controller

HALF-WOLVES: human / werewolf children. considered a taboo

Overview(World): Humans and werewolves live in the same universe but collars specially designed for the wolves. It has been like that for thousands of years but now people are demanding to get rid of it, considering it inhumane and borderline slavery.

Overview(Town): The town is lone and use to be a proudful mill town. Werewolves population to the humans is about 1:5, and are mostly owned and don't have a pack. Strange killings have been going on within the town to werewolves and despite the wolves’ cries for investigation and justice, they are being ignored, completely.

Overview(Theodore): Theodore is uncollared short-tempered werewolf who manages to dodge the federals as unregistered to official papers. Raised by the forest ranger, works with the ranger’s friend, Sheriff, working for small jobs (theft, vandalism).

character growth: (Theodore) Goes from very protective and avoiding to being more trusting and warm towards people.

Overview(Story):

Theodore is called in by the ranger, breaking the news of the death of one of his friends, a collared/owned, Samuel, was murdered working out in the cornfield. Brought to the scene he smells an odd scent he can’t identify, but is unable to investigate by the owner’s disturbance to him not having a collar, demanding he leaves before “he goes and kills us for fun”.

The police department there refuses to investigate, just saying it is no use searching for a mutt killer. Theodore personally goes back out at night to the death place, shifts and follows the trail to the edge of the forest.

NEEDS FILLER (2)

Another kill of a two teenage wolves, theodore becomes more involved with the investigation despite the threats from the locals to stop. Finds a link between them all, vet who gives them their pills, who is physically violent towards people (multiple links of domestic violence). investigates but is thrown out.

another kill of an old man that lived in the state park with him, chases down the killer but is injured. this death encourages his outcry to more material to help find the killer. After being told off by the sheriff he gets to the docs and is allowed to process DNA swap.

NEEDS FILLER (2)

Follows a new scent (Quebec) that was close to discover a young wolf, Quebec claiming to be his brother. Despite his warnings to leave, refusing to handle anyone from his distant pack, Q follows him and even shifts just to follow his car then is forced into the car knowing not wanting to get him in trouble without a collar. Sheriff accepts Q to live with him.

NEEDS FILLER (5)

Interesting, i'll have to keep tabs on this. Although my hands are a bit tied as of right now. I'll have to look into this further.

Sorry but I just had a question, what filler did you mean? Like filler art pages?

like small stories in the middle. If you look at most stories they aren't constant actions, there's progression, recovery, the little events in between that might help the reader know about the character. Like if Stranger Things: (not that much, it only gives a small piece of information but doesn't even spoil the end)

  • spoilers

the friend disappears but the story doesn't jump to the exact moment they start searching for her, it progresses with the sister's worry and focusing on the side struggles she has before leading up to it. it has her dealing with her missing brother, befriending an unlikely character, and her attitude of a group of people.

It gives people the chance to progress what is happening, i don't think it would be very enjoyable to be a fast-pace story without some sort of rest.

Ah, okay. Just wanted to know, becasue I'd be happy to help with filler art, or things like that when you get all of the writing and other bigger stuff handled! I know it's a ways away, but it looked inteserting, keep it up!

The plot kind of reminds me of the original plot for Zootopia. In fact, there is already a webcomic based on the concept called Zistopia which comes with the whole murder mystery shebang. The comic even has the "dumb" pills that your comic has.

Here are my questions based on what you provided:

  1. How did the wolves end up being slaves to the humans in the first place?
  2. What event started the invention of the collar/adopting werewolves and how/why did the werewolves allow this?
  3. Why don't the locals care about the murders?
  4. Are werewolves seen as brainless pets (like the humans from Planet of the Apes) or are they seen as slaves?

I'm not the target demographic for this story, I think, but I still wish you the best in your efforts.

This seems really interesting, I prefer discord over Skype, but I'm alright with using Skype too. I'd love to help, I'm pretty good at criticizing, and coming up with ideas. Art wise, I'm alright, but I prefer traditional style over digital, so I'm not sure if that be of any use, if you want to see an example of my art, just ask. :3

Oh thank you for the heads up! I'll see if i can shape my story a bit to avoid being similar to the other's, would it be okay if you send me the link? i'll like to check it out and see what concepts i should avoid.

1: I was thinking way way back in history, somewhere within the medevals  they were in a way 'caught' and used more for war and physical powers

2: It started from the same time, just the simple collar showing where they are from and who owned them. I wouldn't say they really allowed it but it has been followed so far into history that it is the norm in a way that people are trying to break free from. But with growing society the collars advanced and hopefully add some historical events, will be the reasoning with the silver lining to keep them in the vulnerable state and not shift completely.

3: I would have to say they have the same state of mind, a werewolf murder isn't much of a bother for them, its like if a country side town's outside cats are being killed by what looks like an animal, people wont lose sleep and is seems expectable if a coyote got to them. As i said the story are still being worked around, the murders will definantly be noticed after a while.

4: In a way, both. They are seen as slaves but there are a very few lucky few who are deemed as pets. I wouldn't say they are seen as brainless, but more of not equal as humans, lower than them.

but thank you for your best of wishes!

Thanks for answering my questions! Here is the link to the comic I mentioned. It's not extremely similar to yours (the time period is different, everyone is an animal and the collars zap you into behaving...) but maybe it can help you get some ideas for your own story. Zistopia

Awesome! I'll figure out how to work Skype sometime. My schedule is a bit hectic at the moment, but think I would be able to do something on skype tomorrow and  I'll send you a pm with a few examples of my art today.
