Have you ever thought about how you would die?

It could have happened in any way.

It could have been noisy-- with the screeching of police sirens, flashing lights, the muffled sound of screaming. It could have also been quiet-- the only sound being the soft thump of your body against the surface.

The point was, as the last of your senses faded away, you were dead.

Were.

Because the breath returned to your lungs. Your senses slowly came back awake, one by one, and as you opened your eyes you found yourself face to face with a being far beyond human comprehension, staring back at you just as curiously.

"Am I dead?"

"Not anymore." The being replied. "My soul is now yours, and yours is mine."

You felt for wounds, if there were any, finding none. You truly were alive.

"But your life has a price, I'm afraid." The being spoke, its form starting to change into something more familiar to you. More comprehensible. But you still didn't know what it was.

"A price?"

The being cocked its head at you.

"The life of another."

Finally, as you slowly came to your feet, you stared into the being's eyes.

"What are you?"

"I am a Reaper," It replied, finally taking shape as it stood before you. "And you are my Necromancer."


Hey, Crow here. The above blurb might be a little shorter than what I usually write, but I hope it caught your interest.

So, this is an idea/pet project I've been running through in my head a couple of times before, which I used to lovingly refer to as "Necro Shoujo" before just translating the title. The basic premise can be summed up in, "Magical girl battle royale and instead of cute and cuddly familiars and bright powers, they have Reapers and dark magic instead". Yes, i'm aware it basically sounds like I'm creating edgy magical girls and yes, that's the general idea. XD

But seriously, for a more detailed summary, this RP basically revolves around certain individuals, all located in the same city, who are mysteriously saved from death by creatures called Reapers. These Reapers linked their souls with the individuals, giving that individual a share of their abilities, a cool new transformation sequence as per magical girl shows, and an extended lifespan as their Necromancer. However, the price is that they now have to help the Reaper find other Necromancers in the city and defeat them until they're the last one standing in order for the Reaper to ascend and become a "Death God".

Powers, of course, include necromancy by letting the Necromancer call on the souls that their Reaper harvested and having them fight in their place. Along with that, if the Reaper has a certain specialization (like shadow magic, for example) the Necromancer will also inherit a share of those powers.

If this RP starts picking up interest, I'll put up a poll in order to decide how we're going to handle character battles and possible eliminations maybe around the same time I start accepting characters.

Some basic rules I'll probably require in the RP:

- The basic RPN rules. No metagaming/powerplaying/godmodding of any sort. As I mentioned, we'll sort out how we're going to handle in-character battles if this picks up interest.
- I can probably only open limited slots; my maximum is probably 8 players not counting myself. I most likely won't be accepting Reapers as separate roles entirely as Reapers are closely bound to the Necromancer already, so players will have to create their own duo. To make things a little easier, I'll also make the Reaper CS fairly short.
- The premise is basically a darker version of magical girls, so it goes without saying that this RP is mostly anime-based and will most likely have an all-female cast not including the Reapers, who are allowed to be male, female, or straight up genderless.
- Literacy is fairly light-- just proofread your post, stay away from one liners, and observe basic grammar rules like proper capitalization and punctuation. Post length should be fine at just 2 or 3 paragraphs a post.
- You don't need to constantly be firing off posts- just one a week is fine. If you're going to disappear for a long time though, just PM me and we'll work something out for your character in the meantime while you're gone.
- Have fun! I did basically make this premise on the idea of "edgy magical girls", but always remember that there's always a bright side to life even if it doesn't seem like it.

Potentially interested, but I have a quick question. Once someone's character has been eliminated are they free to leave/do they leave the RP or do they still have a role to play?

I think you said you'd figure out eliminations if this gets more interest, but I just thought I'd leave that question there anyways.

I've been considering the idea of making an afterlife thread where those that have been eliminated can still interact with others who have also been eliminated- though, I'd probably leave that choice to the player if they want to participate in the afterlife thread.

I'm also considering the idea that Necromancers may also be able to call on the souls of those they eliminated from the game but only for limited amounts of time.

Hey, no problem at all! You don't really need a deep understanding of anime to join in the RP. If ever you're not particularly attuned to using anime images or other such things for your character, I'm always okay with written descriptions too.

This concept is really cool! The premise sorta reminds me of a more interesting version of Future Diaries. Always loved the concept of characters battling each other to the death for a reward, so count me interested

Alright, I think I've garnered just enough interest to push through. I've already got a CS sign-up thread coded in my workshop, so I might post that up later tonight.

At the same time that I will be releasing the CS thread, I'll be putting up a poll on the options this RP has in tackling the elimination system for the RP. So far, I've managed to narrow my choices down to these.

Option 1: We use a chance-based combat system, most probably dice. Keep in mind though that I didn't really design the CS to have numeric stats and bonuses, and that I'm not the most versed in dice systems.

Option 2: We create a linear system/timeline beforehand to decide on character eliminations beforehand.

Option 3: We leave eliminations entirely up to chance. Similar to Option 2, but we literally just spin the wheel. I'm...a bit terrified of this one. XD

There will be an afterlife aspect to the roleplay that contains an optional plotline for eliminated characters to explore the world of the Reapers and learn more about the lore. I'm also willing to take the fall to create an NPC that will likely die first, so at least eliminated characters will have another character there waiting for them to interact with.

That being said, once the CS goes up, the poll will go up as well, so be sure to cast a vote if you're entering the RP!
