Actually, swastikas appear in various cultures as positive symbols, both left, right, "crooked", and straight. There's no such thing as a "bad" swastika and a "good" swastika based on orientation.


Like any symbol, it only means what you intend it to.

In Japan it's a symbol of a temple. The picture above is from a big temple in Asakusa Tokyo and the symbol is used to indicate temples. I have to admit it is a bit funny for a westerner. I'd think it is a bit risky to have swastika in a game illustration in the west due to the common nazi connections.

The nazis derived a lot of symbolism from other cultures.  Very little of what the nazis did was unique, they just took it to a scale hardly achieved before.


I have always found it wierd though that a party that based itself on German national pride drew from primarily from other major cultures.  The influence of the roman empire was massive in the third reich, which is amusing since Germania was one of the few areas that the Romans knew to leave well enough alone.

Personally I'm all in favour of using swastikas for stuff to remove the stigma on what used to be a generally positive symbol. I don't think arming the undead hordes of a despotic necromancer with swastikas is going to achieve that, however. Maybe they're going the way of marvel, and making everyone a nazi?
