LANDFALL GENERAL INFO

Landfall operates on a very medieval basis. Technology is a rare thing and modern day technologies do not exist. There are no cell phones or TVs or electricity. Most people still have to rely on tools and archaic primitive crafts to get through life. Law is handled by each city separately, if you were to commit a crime in Sanctuary then you are at the complete mercy of the law there and will be punished accordingly to their standards. However if you have committed a crime in one city, and went to another one you may not have any trouble with the law. Bounties can be put out on people though which lets justice be carried out from anywhere by the person holding the contract.

Guilds are a common sight in all major cities. They house recruitment boards, bounty boards, taverns, and guild quests. Doing services for guilds is often rewarded with gold, or sometimes unique artifacts that have special properties. They can be a great place to look for new people to share in adventure with, to make a steady profit if you have the skill, or to find new rumours. Going to a guild is never a bad idea.

Dungeons are a common sight in Landfall, and all manner of creatures call those ruins or caves their home, sometimes creatures that carry valuable treasure or blueprints, and even when you clear one out it seems like they just find new residents some time later. Many adventurers had made a living out of 'dungeon crawling' despite the risks, for some are not all as they seem.

Landfall has many different climates and biomes. From thick forests, to arid deserts and isolated islands, and rocky mountains. The thing they all share in common is that there is almost always something to find in the landscape be it a quest, or treasure, or dangerous monster, for better or worse the life of a traveler is always an interesting one.

THE WAR:

Currently, and for quite some time Landfall had been involved in a bloody three-way war. The imperialistic Silver Legion, the forest dwelling Covenant and the ruthless Crimson Court.

The Silver Legion are composed entirely of humans and are an elitist group that enslaves all other races, or kills them for sport. They tax the poor and weak, and only support those that support them and prove useful. Whoever don't serve willingly are often conscripted and drafted into the army.

The Covenant are a forest dwelling people that are composed almost entirely of Elf subspecies and the animal like race known as the beastkin. They are not funded or fueled by any nation, but instead are unified by a single idea, to protect the land from those that would defile it with their machines and operations.

The Crimson Court is a special group made of vampires and elder vampires that see the living populace merely as food and fodder, and know the best way to assert their strength and dominance is to take out the competition being the Silver Legion and the Covenant. They are ruthless and see the world as their own, and will kill anyone who gets in their way.

There had never been a war during a natural calamity before like the cultist threat now which proves to be a major problem. Because the nations and cities are divided no one can raise a proper fighting force to deal with them hence why it is important for the heroes to stop them in this time or it will be the end of the world.

RACES:

Humans: Humans have long since dominated the hierarchy of social structure in Landfall. With vast numbers, and constructing many monuments and cities in their name it has become standard for humans to lead in the chain of social evolution, Unfortunately for other races this had led to them losing numbers, territories and even freedoms.

Elves: Elves are the elder race of Landfall, and have existed before human and beastkin established any sizable territories. Despite being incredibly skilled fighters, long ago they took a pacifist route to avoid any serious conflict with the other species of Landfall, which eventually lead to them having to surrender much of their once historical territories.

Beastkin: This humanoid species possesses animal like characteristics such as horns, tails, ears, claws and sometimes different eyes. Unfortunately the beastkin have been mostly enslaved by certain human parties, and the beastkin that are free often rely on criminal professions to make a living.

Vampires: The other elder race to inhabit Landfall they are a blood feasting species that make up the entirety of the Crimson court. Most are bitter remorseless creatures that see humans as mere food, cattle the should be herded to the slaughter, but some have deviated. There are a few vampires that believe mortal kind is more then just a supply of food and have abandoned their roots.

Cities:

Sanctuary: Sanctuary is one of the largest cities in Landfall, and prides itself on it's neutrality. Generally so long as your goal is to not cause any trouble you will be welcomed into the expansive city. A place that had abolished slavery you will see many of the different species mingled around this place without fear. The city is very liberal with things like religion, race, gender, and most other rights that any sensible person would say should be upheld for all. Sanctuary is currently one of the only places looking into forming a sort of resistance to fight the cultist threat, and actively encourage strong individuals to take up arms. Unfortunately due to their differing views on morals and rights it has made the city a target for other factions such as the Silver Legion, and as such war parties frequently threaten and outright attack the cities walls. However there have always been many capable warriors and mages to stand up and defend the city from ill-willing factions and creeds.

Dunheim: Commonly referred to as the city of the angel. The city went through a drastic change about a year ago, when a band of adventurers went in led by Morgrim to kill the religious leader Marquis Tuso. Ten people went in, but only two came out alive, Morgrim and his friend Jassur Batal. Before the assassination the town was led by Tuso, and controlled through taxes, and by the templar order. Crime was high, illness was widespread, and the rich lived like kings while the poor were forced to live in the muck. After the assassination the templar order of Dunheim was scrapped and disbanded, and Tuso wealth that didn't end up getting taken by Jassur and Morgrim went back to the city to fix the slums, and give money to the poor. Many of the richer citizens after the attack ended up killed. The city is now run by the criminal resistance of the Den, led by Lorne, a shadowy assassin with a heart of gold. Despite all this the town is a much nicer place to live then it once was, but it is still recovering, and many things are constantly changing.

Grim Hallow: Widely known as the city of monsters this place acts as a civilized place for various sentient monster races. The town is widely feared by the rest of Landfall do to the congregation of monster species that live there, but it is widely left alone because of the powerful presence of magic that dwells there. The town is run by various powerful magic users the uphold the barrier around the city. The barrier acts as a dome of perpetual twilight that constantly blocks out the outside world, and there are very few locations that one can enter through. Despite the monsters that dwell there, there is always lots of festivities. Parties, and celebrations seem to take place every few weeks, and usually last several days each. Unlike all other cities, it's generally humans and elves that are looked upon and treated with suspicion. Vampires, undead, beastkin, and various other races are welcomed though despite their backgrounds and ethnicity. A unique feature of the city is that it always appears to be night time, no matter the time or day to accommodate Vampiric races.

Ellanor: Commonly referred to as the Silver city. The city is one under Silver Legion control, a recent conquest in the war. It had quickly been re-purposed by the Silver Legion to meet their imperial standards. Hundreds of beastkin slaves have been taken to the cities mines, and sentenced to work until their last breath. The city's guards have been quickly replaced by soldiers of the Silver Legion who have proven to be too brutal and too difficult to control in the army, the one and only rule they have been given was to protect the rich and nobles, or lose their lives. They sit at Ellanor heavily enforcing cruel laws on strangers and the meek or enslaved. The city itself is run by King Riglov a retired general of the Silver Legion. By the kings side is a supposed angel, a winged warrior that was stripped of their original name and dubbed the Ash Blade, or Ash. The name was given to them based on their weapon that has never left their side, a sword of undying flames. The city is rich in both resources from the mine, and in monetary value, and is a hub for the Silver Legion.

Encountered Creatures:

Werewolves: These beasts were all once men or woman from various races affected by Lycanthropy. The disease is transmitted through transferring of blood. If a werewolf was to try and transform someone into one of their ilk they will often bite their own lips to draw blood, and then bite their victim. This is an uncommon occurrence though as they would rather feed and kill. Once lycanthropy sets in the disease gets progressively worse. In early stages they only change about once every full moon, but as time passes and more transformations take on the rate at which they change becomes more and more frequent. Eventually they change into their beast form and never turn back at which point the illness is not curable. Aside from the obvious physical changes werewolves eventually lose their sense of self, and communication skills.

Strengths: Speed, Strength, Fights in Packs, Ferocious
Weaknesses: Fire, Low Intelligence, Fighting Against Large Groups

|The Seasons|

Fiore

The months of life and renewal after the death of the year, similar to Spring. Birth is celebrated, as well as the worship of life and nature itself. Many druids and other nature worshipers can be seen in droves in the forests of Landfall. This season occurs during the first three months of the year, Amanu, Vigna, and Tirreni.

Amareta

The months of celebration over the other three natural elements during the heat of the year, similar to Summer. During this time people worship the water and the sun, as well as take the time to enjoy themselves and take care of the hard labor that would become harder as the year Neve neared. This season occurs during the next three months of the year, Ventu, Cinneri, and Acqua.

Marrone

The months of harvest, cleansing, and decay, respectively, similar to Autumn. During this time people clean their homes to prepare for Neve, gather their food and store it before cleaning through the fields to make sure the next Fiore would be easily prepared. This season occurs during the next three months, Tempu, Equibril, and Scurdatu.

Neve

The final three months of the year are reserved for mourning and death, as well as the time of year most people stay inside and rarely leave their homes, similar to Winter. During Furore, Casu, and Morte, people face the harshest of winters and keep to their homes in hopes of surviving the winters (unless you live in Skyshard or the Core).

History: Shifter was a mutant in his village. Coming from the humble beginnings of Green Orchard he wanted nothing more then to be an adventurer, to make a difference. As a child he played with wooden swords and knives, constantly picking fights with the few bullies in the village. Needless to say he lost many of those fights, and quickly became a target. He was often viewed as a problem child, and the adults of the village were quick to give up on him when he came home with bruises and bloodstains. When he was nine a special power awoke in him, a mutation of magic. He could extend the bones from his body to make weapons or shield himself. After one nasty fight he ended up killing one of the bullies before the others fled screaming to their parents. The adults seeing a young boy's dead body quickly rallied against Shifter.

He was captured and locked in the basement of the town hall, bound by steel chains his bones could not break. For seven years he stayed there a hostage. Every day he would whisper to himself he would be freed and fulfill his destiny to do great things. At the age of sixteen the village had become famished, and unable to feed its people, so when the others had left and only a few remained they freed Shifter, unable to give him even half a meal. He could have killed his captors when his binds were released, but he stayed his hand, and left without a word. He spent every day then on training in the forests, and bettering himself so that he could take the mantle of guide. When he was successfully registered it was the happiest day of his short life. He assembled a small parting, and quested to make the world right. Until his fall from glory.

History:
Brutus was once part of a band of orcs. Unlike most of the other villages though this was a mountain bandit encampment, and Brutus was taught the ways of bloodshed and warfare. Ever since his adolescents he was their most prodigious warrior, able to split the very earth in two with an iron fist. He instilled fear onto all he crossed with his hulking frame, and his legendary reputation. He could single-handed wipe out an entire village without so much as receiving a scratch. He became the prize of his village before long. That was until the silver legion came.

He saw his home destroyed and everyone he knew slaughtered. He was bathed in the blood of his own and his enemies, and for once in his life he felt something; pain. Not only from what was done to him, but for what he had done. All his life he destroyed and ruined never thinking of the consequences. He tore families to shreds with little thought. He resigned his bandit ways and took up his chieftains axe to protect merchants and travelers going through the mountain passes from other bandits. He took no reward, and did so for years. He eventually picked up the common tongue from a particular talkative merchant that he saved, and learned there was more to the world then a couple mountains and lakes in the far off distance. It was a place full of life, and trouble. He learned about the guides from his friend, and later become one where he met Shifter, the last friend he ever made. He traveled with him and completed many quests until his fall from glory.

History:
King Riglov was not always a king of course, he was once a simple soldier. Ever since he was a kid he wanted to join the silver legion, and he trained every day in swordsmanship to earn his place. As soon as he was of age he joined up as a squire where he learned from his mentor Kain. Kain was a true silver legion soldier, an imperialistic bigot who liked to play with sharp weapons and ruin lives. He passed down everything he believed to his squire Riglov who soaked up every word. He learned to see human live as worth more then anything, and everything else was merely a tool, he fought and bled learning the ways of war. and after thirty five long years he achieved the rank of General, and was dubbed the siege knight. His lightning magic seemed like it belonged to that of a wrathful god, and he could break the walls of any kingdom.

He was getting old though, and his superiors though him weak and frail, so they assigned him a mission that was suppose to end his life. A man knowing the number of secrets he did was only a liability. He was sent to capture Ellanor. A city that remained neutral to the war, but had impressive defenses, and housed the mines that was rich with various metals like iron, silver and aristeel. When Riglov broke through their walls and conquered the city they dubbed him a hero, and left the city in his charge. For five years he had been king, and ruled with an iron fist, and the insanity of a power hungry child. In Ellanor his word is undisputed, and no one dare make a move against him.
